I got to thinking about some ideas I thought would be neat if implemented into D2 in some way. The first idea is an addition to the masterwork system. The other, an enhanced system of forging weapons (for Black Armory stuff or even something entirely different, doesn't matter). Also, this post is going to be fairly long.
Masterwork idea key points:
• Allow players to choose their desired masterwork using glimmer (because so many cores are already needed to upgrade things).
• Ugrading a masterwork on a legendary peice of gear to teir 10 will remain the same, but gives the player the option of transforming it into a semi-exotic (perhaps using a new material of some kind).
• When the player transforms their desired piece into a semi-exotic, the masterwork slot is transitioned into ultra-masterwork mode. The player will then be able to upgrade that peice's ultra-masterwork teir up to 5 (two stat points per teir).
• Once semi-exotic status has been reached, the player will then be able to choose an additional stat bonus as the ultra-masterwork.
If this idea were to reach its way into the game somehow, I believe that this semi-exotic system would be best used for raid or other end game gear to give it some needed -umph- ! In addition to the extra stat bonus, perhaps allowing the player to add a specific perk to the weapon or armor piece (or anything similar) would warrant the name "semi-exotic". But that would be up to Bungie, naturally.
Weapon forging idea key points:
Step 1: Creating a Frame
• Players will have the ability to choose the weapon type as the first step of creating their frame. Next, specifics such as stock, barrel, handle, etc. will be chosen. (These will affect the weapon's base stats and even appearance).
Step 2 : Forging
• After the player aquires their customized weapon frame, they will then need to gather the materials necessary to create the weapon at a forge. (Again, not specifically Black Armory, but a forge in general). Methods for acquiring frame materials can include bounties, lost sectors, or even something completely different.
• Subsequent to creating the base weapon from the materials gathered, the player will then need to acquire "perk mods" (essentially, things that go into the trait columns of weapon menus).
That's the gist of it. These are only ideas of course, so feel free to add suggestions or start conversation.
