What did it take to upgrade a weapon in D1?
75 planetary materials
Glimmer
For raid weapons; the specific raid essence

Year 1. And Bungie got rid of that system quickly.

Considering that we had the Vanguard Exchange, which traded easily gainable Marks for Materials, as well as Ghost Shells that could highlight Materials on planets, it wasn't that big of a deal.
-
That was year 2. In year 1 we had to scrounge and beg and hunt and bleed for those materials. Hell, I spent 6 hours one day just playing patrol. Just for materials.

I guess you are different to me, I spent most of my off-time in Patrol. Clearing Bounties, getting Mats and simply enjoying the gunplay... I found it quite fun, actually. To each their own, I guess.
-
I spent thousands of hours raiding. Id sherpa several times a week. I would run the hard modes, when they came out, on each character, each raid at least 2 times a week. Soooooo many raids. Sooooo many prison runs. Patrol was a chore.

Again, to each their own. I never got to Raid in D1, so Patrols were fine for me. That all said, D2 had nailed it pre-Forsaken. No Cores in Infusion, you could just visit all of the planets at the end of the week. Everything you did, from Patrol Missions to Public Events and opening World Chests, earned you mats and Glimmer like wildfire. It made Patrolling fun, I would say.

Again? You say "again" like this is an argument or you are trying to prove a point. That word, does not mean what you think it means. Patrol, goodness, go have fun I guess. Ill stick to raids and Gambit.
