Continued Enhancement Core and Mod Component Discussion

Hey all, A few weeks back, we talked about Enhancement Cores coming from Gunsmith bounties in the TWAB. I wanted to give a quick update on this, as it also involves Mod Components, which have been a topic of discussion as well. Please note- this is all still in development for Season of Opulence, and could change.
• Originally announced in the TWAB, these bounties would cost Gunsmith materials. This has been changed to Glimmer. • There will be multiple daily bounties to complete, each rewarding one enhancement core and two mod components • There will be two weekly bounties to complete. These will each grant one enhancement core, one mod (Weapon or Armor), and other materials or reputation/rank points depending on the objective of the bounty. • Note: When I say rank points, think Valor or Infamy, **not** Glory.
The team is continuing to evaluate feedback over mod components, enhancement cores, and rewards all up. Thank you for the continued feedback. We'll give you updates as we have them.

@dmg04. I don't understand why you guys won't address this issue. It's not rocket science.

    • How about presenting to the team to make 1 of 2 choices. Choice 1. Continue to sow derision and malcontent. Continue to pursue cores as an "infusion currency". Fail to create more depth in the game Fail to connect with your audience. Choice 2. Remove cores from "infusion". The general consensus seems to be either (remove them altogether) or (the community is fine with cores being for masterworking). Listen to your audience. Gain good will. Gain a smidgen of trust (smidgen because ffs guys, this is rediculous). Also eliminate the doubling equation when purchasing from Spider.

      • Honestly, I don't see the developers taking Enhancement Cores out of infusion. If that's the case, I suggest you guys make us powerful by giving us more access to our Power Level in all PvE content. In my opinion, at the moment, our Power Level is a just number that is meaningful in only a few forms of content. If you want infusion to be meaningful, let our Power Level be meaningful also. Please, give us the fun factor of being dominant over enemies that are much weaker than us (Patrol, Normal Strikes, etc.). Some of us just want to shoot and kill enemies in one shot and have fun. I get it. Some may argue that it will make the game too easy, and they are not wrong. Give us options. You guys are game developers. You can find a way to please both sides.

Unless enhancement cores can be earned regularly through passive gameplay people are going to hate it.

        • One SLIGHT problem here. This isn't what the players are wanting. We shouldn't need more ways to get cores because cores should not be such an integral part of our experience... In other words, they need to be removed from infusion, and stay purely for masterworking an item. The excuse of wanting infusion to be special is ludicrous, because it wasn't special at all in D1 and it worked just fine, so why would we wanna make it such a special occasion now? I appreciate the effort here, but this is simply not what we need. How many times until the higher-ups at Bungie get it do we have to say this? Remove the cores from infusion, keep them just for masterworking.

          • You know it's kinda easy to fix this whole issue, but Bungie keeps ignoring and people keep suggesting. Either: A)Get rid of enhancement/masterwork cores for infusion. B)Make it so infusing gear is actually worthwhile with the cores, like enhancing some stats the higher you increase the gear. Right now you guys are on the EA Battlefront 2 territory of reasons why the grind is so ridiculous which is just "A sense of Pride and Accomplishment". On that note, if you want to make things more special, make them better instead of limiting them, removing them, or making it more of a grind just for the items. Make it actually worth the players time to seek out rare/valuable items and not just a pure act of tedium.

            • Only started a new one because the old post had over 4k comments and I read that thread everyday from March 22nd and it wasn't all 1 person repeating themselves. You had maybe 300 wankers defending cores( bet they exploited pinnacle bug) the rest was a general consensus of remove cores from infusion.

            • A "weekly" bounty should be giving out more than one core.

                • Lets face it. Most have so lost interest in the game right now it doesn't really matter. Kind of like dropping a pile of mediocre catalysts like 9 months late or making drop rates for things reasonable months later. Ships sail partner. By the time you decide to do something it is usually too late. What are we three seasons into the same crucible now? Maybe put that on the list of things to tackle in the next three months or so.

Here's the other unspoken problem. You guys nearly doubled the price of masterworking weapons and armor. Maybe if you reduced it back to 10 cores a weapon and 5 per a piece of armor that itself would solve the issue seems you want to force us to waste cores on infusion. Changing the function of cores and then jacking the price on their original purpose was just an all around shitty move.

                • Also they are defeating their own desire of having players make meaningful decisions. Once your gear is to power players can masterwork more weapons then ever now. Its kind of funny. The whole reason the community wants cores gone is so that we can use our good stuff and appear the way we like while leveling up. Once. You hit 700 light you get fill your vault with shiny gold lasted guns. You can now afford to masterwork multiple different rolls of the same weapons for different circumstances. Its not uncommon for me to build/masterwork a pvp range, pvp cqc, pve, and gambit roll of the same weapon. Bungies own stubbornes is defeating their desired purpose for how cores are used.

                • If we gotta wait who knows how long for this simple change y'all truly stubborn i at least give you guys 1% for even trying to make the situation better. If this is y'all solution then it's obvious bungie doesn't care about the enhancement core infusion system this fix probably in their back log or whatever cozmo an dmg calls it. 👎

                • This ain’t directed towards you, boss, but to the folks who’ve been giving us the turn around with “Enhancement Cores” ever since the unnecessary change. Why does it matter this much for you folks to be so damned adamant over this little debacle? Originally, Masterwork Cores weren’t a part of the direct leveling grind, but were instead added to the side to spice up armor or add orb generation to weapons and stuff. The impression that Year 1 left on me was that Masterworking was strictly part of the endgame grind, something that was on the side for players to work towards. Think like good old Ascendant Energy/Shards for Raid gear. You only needed those materials to unlock the upgrade nodes on that gear, but it was never made a requirement for their infusion costs. Though one is now a more readily available resource, the point is moot; why did you people think that making such a drastic change to Cores was a necessity? If anything, having to constantly change around things revolving Cores would have to have been way more work than simply keeping a new Masterwork system dedicated to just Masterworks and a few simple ways to earn Cores, let alone having to change the damned name just to get the point across. By the way, that was petty. Why can’t we simply get a direct explanation behind all of this instead of a long, drawn out disagreement between you folks and the Community? We all know that this’ll just end up with most us growing to resent those decisions due to the lack of straightforward communication or you’ll end up changing back infusions to try and save face. At this point, this has become less of a concern for me and more of an amusing show to see how it will all play out. Who caves in first? The disgruntled players who hate having to do chores in video games? Or the D2 devs who refuse to back down on how they want people to play their game?

I am probably not the first to say it, but just remove enhancement cores from the infusion cost. This is the best solution.

                  • Stop ignoring player feedback. We don’t want enhancement cores. Masterwork cores are fine. Stop making the game even more pointlessly complicated with more pointless “economy” nonsense. It already has too damned many currencies as it is. REMOVE MASTERWORK CORES FROM INFUSION

                      • Please stop pretending enhancement cores are anything other than a bad idea. They’re punitive and make your game less fun. A lot less fun. Quit being asshats and listen to your audience!
