Continued Enhancement Core and Mod Component Discussion

Hey all, A few weeks back, we talked about Enhancement Cores coming from Gunsmith bounties in the TWAB. I wanted to give a quick update on this, as it also involves Mod Components, which have been a topic of discussion as well. Please note- this is all still in development for Season of Opulence, and could change.
• Originally announced in the TWAB, these bounties would cost Gunsmith materials. This has been changed to Glimmer. • There will be multiple daily bounties to complete, each rewarding one enhancement core and two mod components • There will be two weekly bounties to complete. These will each grant one enhancement core, one mod (Weapon or Armor), and other materials or reputation/rank points depending on the objective of the bounty. • Note: When I say rank points, think Valor or Infamy, **not** Glory.
The team is continuing to evaluate feedback over mod components, enhancement cores, and rewards all up. Thank you for the continued feedback. We'll give you updates as we have them.

    • Finally hit 700 a week ago. Upgraded some weapons and armor to allow myself a few diverse synced sets. Had an urge to further upgrade and diversify to try out new weapons/loadouts. Them remembered that a new season is starting soon and I should probably start hording cores to put towards infusion when the new cap hits. I've got 28 now, more than I think I've had in stock since right before Foresaken dropped. Feels pretty shitty Bungie. I'd like to just enjoy the game. Not have to curtail my experimentation and enjoyment so that I can stock up for the next "content drop".

Bounties are being changed to glimmer to purchase? So, Gunsmith materials are again irrelevant unless you want a Gunsmith weapon. Truthfully, gunsmith materials are a pointless currency. With the current meta and available loot from other activities, the only real use for gunsmith materials is chasing a "God roll" on one or two weapons for the Crucible or the occasional purchase of mods when RNGesus offers useful ones. While I respect that not everyone will agree with what I am about to say, I believe that including gunsmith materials in the masterwork process of weapons can help offset some community woes regarding the scarcity of enhancement cores. My suggestion is for weapons level 3 up to 7, replace enhancement core requirements with amounts of gunsmith materials. At level 7 up to Masterwork, return to the use of cores in place of the gunsmith materials. This breathes new life into an underutilized currency and also allows players to level their weapons higher before tapping into their enhancement core supply thereby playing into the power fantasy. Additionally, by still requiring the use of cores for the last few steps to Masterwork, the decision making process on whether to masterwork or not still remains. From my seat, this is a win for all sides.

This is something. But something isn’t what we need, we need enhancement cores to be removed from infusion. You want us to take the time to do bounties for the sole purpose of being able to make our good gear powerful instead of grinding for the good gear? That doesn’t make sense to me.

              • Thank you for the updates on the gunsmith stuff. If you insist on not removing cores from infusion. Please REDUCE THE COST. Every infuse, could just be 1 core... instead of 3 every time. This would help out alot

Is there anyone that has said I play Destiny 2 because I love enhancement cores ? Your studio and development team have to be the most half assed backwards thinking people on the planet . You hate these forums and negativity but they are a direct representation of the environment and game mentality to that your company made happen. Get a clue already

                          • It changes nothing, we are still going to complain about masterwork cores (I prefer calling that) because at some point in the future you going to have no other than removing them.

I can't possibly begin to imagine why the sandbox devs responsible for the economy are being so stubborn about this. Especially since we already went through this with you guys when the game first came out. You were pretty freaking stubborn then until the bad press and the dropping player numbers. Then you were all too keen to actually pay attention to player feedback. Now we are just back to business as usual, "we know better" attitude. We are literally telling you we don't enjoy this aspect of the game and you are essentially telling us "no, you just don't get it!" What? They already admitted that they heard the feedback that enhancement cores in infusion was a negative experience, so instead of removing them from infusion they double down. Now they are wasting dev bandwidth trying to solve the dilemma between alleviating the negative experience of enhacement cores in infusion while also not breaking the economy from the masterworking perspective. Which is clearly evident by removing per-character pinnacle weapon aquisition and with this initial concept where all the bounties only offer 1 core. Why? They can just solve the problem by removing the cores from infusion. All for chasing some pipe dream of "impact" in a system that honestly was more valuable as a mehanism for people being able to not only look the way they want but to choose a loadout that matches their playstyle. Why is an RPG looter shooter trying to restrict my choice in playstyle? Impact does not always equal fun. Something can be impactful and not be fun. The idea that the team recieves the feedback including a poll where 68% of participants said to remove them from infusion and simply just refuse to do so is baffling. Just falling into the sunk cost fallacy instead of just cutting their loses and removing them infusion. Putting aside the mod components, who is this for? The people that already play the game for a huge amount of time per week seem to be fine with cores, at least from what I see in their condescending replies. So you throw in these bounties which at best require no more added time or worst require even more play time. Which in no way helps or impacts the main grouo of players who have a problem with the cores in infusion in the first place. It really feels like this is so poorly thought out. Also I am tired of being told that things could change as it is still in development. People have been giving feedback for 9 months saying they don't like cores in infusion, if you were even going to entertain the idea you would have said so already. You can't just slap a scarce resource on a game mechanic and say it adds impact! That is some of the most shallow and silly game design I have ever seen.

                              • 5550 comments. And telling silence from Bungie... Got to keep us logged in as long as possible while you shop for a new publisher? Still can't admit that you make bad choices, like Reckoning and the super Regen exotics and the incoming nerf? Or that you can't make boss mechanics outside of stompy stomp snd stand still and take a Whisper to the face? It's bad. I spent a very significant amount of time in a much harsher industry. I ran a $15 million/year wellhead facility. When my customers had something to say, I listened. Reputation meant a lot to me. If you choose to operate with little to no integrity, I believe such because this time last year you were singing a very different tune, we will continue to drift off and your beloved profits will dissipate. You spend more time making things for profit in Eververse than you do for the content we've already paid you for.

                                  • This subject is a double edged sword. In one case you have players on daily collecting cores by the dozon so see no need for the economy to change. The other side are players that can only play certain hours a week or like me just coming back to d2 and only carry a small amount of cores im experienced enough to know not to infuse for the heck of it. In two days of play ive farmed 22 cores a few more would help but ive got to say they dont hold you back ranking/leveling up they just restrict what you can infuse or masterwork which is not good or fun. Im not saying its game breaking because its not and if bunjie remove them then the players who have loads will just have no end of masterwork weapons and those who dont can crack on without argument.

Thank you for acknowledging the issue at least. It still isn’t what we want. We want them removed from infusion.

                                        • Thank you for the update Dylan. Sadly, this does not adequately address the entire issue surrounding Cores. They need to be removed from infusion costs. It's a broken system. Simply adding more bounties (think Spider-like bounties) for a time-sink grind is not what I want. Remove cores from Infusion economy costs. Simple as that. It's broken. Remove it. This cannot wait until Season of Opulence. Needs to happen now. Thank you!
