Problems getting your PC to work with Destiny 2?

Game loading takes longer after hardware upgrade

Hi, I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue I'm having since upgrading my PC hardware and I'm running out of ideas. Not sure if this is a thing Bungie can help with, but I'm hoping someone might have some insight for me into how I might continue to troubleshoot this. My former PC build ran Destiny 2 great, but since upgrading major components of my PC last weekend my game is having performance issues. It seems specific to just loading the game and loading into PVE instances, the rest of the gameplay is still smooth. I say PVE though I haven't played Gambit yet this week, and I didn't notice any longer loads for Iron Banner earlier this week. Examples of my issue: (1) My former PC build would load into Strikes as fast or faster than my friends/fireteam. My new PC build lags behind them by ½ a minute or longer (it feels like several minutes to me). Like, the other night we launched the Chasm of Screams and by the time I had loaded in they were already in the Arcology at the sealed door. Normally I would be leading them into the Arcology. This time they died when the Shriekers suddenly appeared on them with my load-in completed, so it at least gave me ample chance to catch up. (2) The game's opening itself performs differently now. My former PC build would open the game fairly smoothly, and the character select screen would come up without any stuttering whatsoever. My new PC build feels longer to reach the character select, and when it does show the character select the game freezes up for a moment when doing a mouse-over of the characters. Mind you it locks up only on the first load, once the character model has been displayed it then runs smoothly on any mouse-over after that. When selecting the character the game also freeze-stutters a bit as it loads the ship and performs its animation for the "In Orbit" screen. Again, subsequent In Orbit animations do not stutter, this particular performance/behaviour issue seems limited to the first time. Mainly it is the PVE load times that put me significantly behind my fireteam that's most frustrating. Those don't seem limited to first times, they're happening throughout the whole session. Like I joined my fireteam for a Public Event in The Dreaming City last night and by the time I got there the event was half over. Not knowing what could be causing this kind of an issue is a bit defeating, because I play this game a lot. My former PC build was: Mobo: MSI 970A-G43 PLUS (AM3) CPU: AMD FX-8370 (8-core, 8 thread, 4Ghz) RAM: Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 8Gb (4x2) Disk: Crucial MX100 256GB OS: Windows 7 64-bit GPU: Radeon RX480 GDDR5 4Gb My new PC build is: Mobo: Gigabyte X470 AORUS Ultra Gaming (AM4) CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X (6-core, 12 thread, 3.6Ghz) RAM: Crucial Vengeance DDR4-2400 16Gb (8x2) Disk: Transcend TS512GMTE110S NVMe M.2 SSD OS: Windows 10 64-bit GPU: Radeon RX480 GDDR5 4Gb (same) Also my internet connection is a solid 10 up 100 down, and it hasn't changed. Things I have tried so far include: * Updating Radeon drivers to version 19. * Downgrading Radeon drivers to version 18. (It won't let me try version 17! The installer I have for 17 won't even give me the option to install it, lol.) * Installing the game on the Transend M.2 drive. * Installing the game on the Crucial MX100 drive again, no change. (So I've put it back on the M.2 drive for now.) * Running the UserBenchmark tool to gauge my PC's performance, specifically looking at my RAM. My RAM appears to be running fine around 2400Mhz. (Not sure what else I might be looking for there.) The rest of my hardware also comes up green on the UserBenchmark(.com) tests. * Not specifically for this issue but I did update the BIOS of the mobo to its latest revision this week. Without knowing more about what roles the hardware plays during these moments of the game, I'm kind of in the dark on what troubleshooting would actually help me here. I'm open to any suggestions, as long as they don't involve using different hardware because this is the only PC and parts that I have available to me at home.

 • I may have found a solution!!! TLDR; I added a Profile for Destiny 2 in my Radeon Gaming Settings (and made sure it had the Shader Cache enabled). I began browsing the forum #loadtimes tag, and that led me to this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/8cty1t/regarding_the_shader_cache_postadrenaline_17121/ Which led me to look into the Radeon Shader Cache: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/dh-012#faq-Shader-Cache- In my Radeon Settings the one game the Scan didn't pick up was Destiny 2 so I presume it wasn't benefiting from the Shader Cache at all (or some other benefit of the Profile maybe, I'm just assuming the Shader Cache was the ticket). I have no idea what my Radeon Gaming Profiles were on my previous PC build, but on this PC they are definitely missing for D2. So I did 2 things: (1) Based on my reading the Shader Cache may be "defective" if the cache file sizes are showing up as 64 KB. You can look at the cache files in Windows under c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\AMD\DxCache, where I saw the majority of my caches were 64 Kb (not all though so maybe this didn't apply to me. On the off chance this was enough of a sign that the defect was happening I went into the Radeon Gaming Global Settings and I turned off and on the Shader Cache. Full disclaimer: I actually have no idea if this helped, because other people reported doing this and others reported also deleting their cache files too. Regardless I mention it because it was something I did. Might have been inconsequential. (2) Under the Radeon Game Settings I used Add+ to create a new Profile, browsed to the destiny2.exe and added it. I confirmed that Shader Cache in that Profile was turned on, and I left it set to "AMD Optimized". I did nothing else besides that. Then the big moment, I launched Destiny 2, and the Character Select went extra smoothly, the first In Orbit animation happened without pauses, and then I was the first to load into a Strike playlist, and my travel to PVE instances like Mars and IO have been very short! I think this did the trick!! And I also found this reddit thread which may be useful for people troubleshooting their D2 performance issues: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTechSupport/comments/8xahza/destiny_2_troubleshooting_guides_framerate/
