New Crucible gamemode idea for keeping the game fresh and bringing back the non-meta weapons
Sup.
I like destinys crucible but nowadays it feels so hard to go play destiny because it feels so stale to me. One of the big factors in this is always the current meta which is mostly affected by weapon and subclass/super balance. Other thing is of course the gamemodes available during the season. I like how destiny offers different kinds of gamemodes which are seasonal, competetive, solo and casual. Basically not too many (which has chance to fraction the playerbase too much) and neither too few. However to me this has grown stale in many ways. Like because of the lack of ways to play competitivly and aforementioned super balance. But this is just my opinion and my problems, so lets get in to the ideas of improving crucible either for the following seasons OR for the next destiny game.
I feel like while there are different gamemodes which have some seasonal/weekly rotating ones, there is still room for one which could spice the daily/weekly crucible gameplay AND most importantly would give room for other weapon-types to shine or at least encourage people to try them. Instead of being responsible and giving an fully constructed idea for implementation I invite you fellow forum goers to discuss this and challenge the devs to follow and possibly to build on the idea. All I do is give my idea for bare bones.
So the problem in my opinion?
- Currently game makes people play in certain way using mostly certain weapons AKA meta
- This leads to weapons being imbalanced and some weapon types being not used
- Also weekly/seasonal rotating gamemodes are not enough to offer varying game experience
- Past experiences of changes in the sandbox tells me, that making changes to the crucible can be really hard and time consuming to implement
The solution and the idea (forgive me if this has been suggested before):
- New gamemode which implements same rules as the late prestige leviathan raids rotating weapon types. I mean the system has already been implemented so this could be easy enough? Basically works the same as the prestige leviathan raid version: you would have to start the activity while wearing the correct weapons and you would be able to switch between same weapon types you have in your inventory while others are greyed out
- Would "force" people to play with varying weapon types or on the flipside possibly allow gameplay WITHOUT meta weapons. Many will probably suggest disallowing some weapon types to be excluded aka current "meta wapons" but monitoring this would in my opinion be very hard. Its either completely random or no random at all (dunno about affecting chances of some weapon types appearing in rotation tho)
- Key point of this idea would be when to cycle the weapon loadout and in my opinion this should be done daily for the main reason of "keeping it fresh"
Would-be problems in implementation:
- What to do with people that simply dont have the required weapons? Not let them access the activity until they have the right weapons? I think this would be a mistake and the solution would be that the game would upon trying to start the activity prompt you to change your loadout until you have the correct weapon types on. OR ask that if you want to go in to the activity with say some green quality pre-set loadout that is predefined and made out of vanilla weapons (with message or guns printed with "Sponsored by Lord Shaxx"). This would fix the issue of "what if I havent got the right weapons at the moment" However it would probably be difficult to implement system that allows you to change between the pre-set loadout weapons and your own.
- What kind of mode should it be? Variant to rumble or your basic team based combat with varying classic gamemodes? In my opinion I suggest primaly tdm as the purpose is to try using the weapon types themselves.
I think the payoff of such gamemode is massive as it keeps the game fresh, brings back and allows every weapon type to be used in crucible frequently and opens path for implementing other weapon based gamemodes. It could and I think it should have some lore built in to it as it trains guardians to be effective with every weapon type and the gametype could be called something like arms mastery or weapon mastery. You could also add some dailybounties that go along with the current weapon rotation.
So, what to you peeps think about the idea? If you have ideas to improve upon the idea write them down below and keep the discussion fervent to make sure the devs see it!
TLDR; New crucible gamemode called "Arms mastery" with daily rotating weapon types (aka prestige leviathan) to make seasonally indifferent non-meta weapon type gameplay possible and keep gameplay fresh.

EDIT 1; Now that I have thought about it further there is the question of chance of special ammo using weapons only loadout coming and the ammunition problem it brings. What kind of fix would suffice? Two solutions come quickly to mind: Either make players ALWAYS drop special ammo and/or some extra OR increase the starting ammunition, while keeping same ammo drop rates making it more ammo economy based. What do you guys think?
