So I was banned and I want to make sure it doesn't happen again

Let's skip the part where you tell me that bans are irreversible and I tell you that I don't know what I was banned for. I'm over that. I've gone through the stages of grief related to losing something that I valued a lot. Now that that's out of the way, I have a question to ask to those that know more about this topic than me. See, I built a gaming computer with the sole purpose of playing Destiny. I went all out. I've never spent so much money on anything before in my life. I never expected to be banned, but hey, maybe something in my computer got caught by Bungie erroneously. I maintain my innocence, but I'm aware that I won't get my account back, and I'm not trying to convince users here that I didn't cheat. What I want is advice on how to prevent any future bans. I just bought the game again and I don't want this to happen again. I know the basics; don't have any cheating software running at the same time (I didn't even have software like that installed), don't use overlays, etc. My question is: how do you protect yourself? What programs are safe to run and which aren't? I'm a developer by trade so I have many different programs installed, including compilers, editors, network monitors, and VPNs but to the best of my knowledge I never had them running in the background. Thanks in advance for your advice.

  • If you are using an overclocking app to monitor temps on screen like MSI Afterburner or EVGA's Precision software and are having them display the info on screen in an overlay that can be picked up by Bungie's app and trigger a ban since they are injecting a hook in the memory to display the temps/clocks of your hardware on screen. Always disable on screen display when playing Destiny 2 on PC. it could also be caused by a poor or intermittent internet connection. If you are using WiFi I strongly suggest running hardwired to your modem.
