I've seen a few creators writing stories so I figured I'd take a crack at it myself. This will be the first in a series I call, Tales of a Gunslinger.
The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon of the EDZ. The wind blew softly, causing Malex's memory of Cayde cloak to flutter in the breeze. He was sitting on the top floor of some old abandoned building, just gazing at the sunrise. His Ghost, whom he named Peacemaker, appeared.
Peacemaker: Guardian, we've been here awhile. Anything in particular you wanna talk about?
Malex held up his vanguard medallion, he had completed the allegiance quest on the side of the Vanguard.
Peacemaker: Guardian, your kinda worrying me here, what's up?
Malex sighed and took off his errant knight helmet, revealing his brown hair, fair skin, and blue eyes.
Malex: Well it's like this buddy, Cayde was my mentor, he taught me how to gunsling. And Shin Malphur was the hero who inspired me to fight the darkness. Now Cayde is dead and who knows where Shin is.
Peacemaker: So what? I don't see the problem here.
Malex: Peace, the problem is as a Gunslinger I'm supposed to be fighting the darkness, and especially the shadows of yor! But now as far as I know I'm the last Gunslinger hunting them! And with gambit increasing in popularity, the Malfeasance popping up all over the place, and now the Thorn is back!? How am I supposed to fight that?
Peacemaker: Very carefully
Malex chuckled and gave his buddy a slight shove
Malex: Good grief, again with that joke?
Peacemaker: What? I'm not wrong.
Suddenly the pair heard an explosion come from a nearby cave, a known fallen hideout.
Malex put on his helmet and pulled on his hood. Peacemaker vanished into Malex's pack. Malex leaped off the building and summoned his sparrow, the engines of the otherside roared to life as he landed and sped off down the cave.
The fallen bodies were everywhere
Malex brought the otherside to a stop and dismounted. He heard two distinct gunshots echo off the walls and immediately he knew what he was dealing with. He ran through the cave until he found a warlock, dressed in full reaper Gambit Prime armor, with a Malfeasance at his side. He had the Dredgen title.
Dredgen: Oh come on out, I won't hurt you. I only had to hurt him for reasons you wouldn't understand! Come on out please!
Malex: Hey!
The Dredgen turned around
Dredgen: Huh? You talkin to me?
Malex: No I'm talking to speaker. Of course I'm talking to you stupid!
Dredgen: What did you just call me? You better turn around and run away before you end up deader than a beaver hat.
Malex looked past the Dredgen Warlock and saw a man lying face down on the ground.
Peacemaker: He's dead guardian
Malex nodded, he was glad Peacemaker was in his HUD
Malex: What happened to him?
Dredgen: That's none o' your concern dreg!
Malex: Oh, it's dreg now huh?
The Dredgen nodded
Malex: Okay then
Malex moved his cloak from around his right leg, revealing The Last Word.
The Dredgen gasped and looked down at the piece, then back up at Malex.
Dredgen: That...that can't be...how...
Malex: Now how about you put your tail between your legs and mosie on down the road?
The Dredgen said nothing, instead he went for his Malfeasance.
Malex was faster
His gun slipped the holster faster than an arc bolt. And it only spoke once.
The Dredgen fell, dead. His Malfeasance never even made it out of the holster.
Malex reloaded The Last Word and eased it onto the holster of his lucky pants. He waited for the Dredgen's Ghost to appear, but either it left him, was dead, or was hiding out until he left. Malex didn't care either way. He had to figure out why the Dredgen had killed this man.
Suddenly he heard a sob, like a little girl was crying. Malex turned around, where was that coming from?
Peacemaker: Malex, it's coming from over there.
Malex walked over to a pile of rusted junk and pushed it aside. It was hiding a large locker. Inside was a woman who looked to be about twenty five holding a crying little girl who looked to be about nine. Another Ghost appeared, it hovered in front of the little girl.
Random Ghost: Shhh, it's okay little guardian, help is here. You just stay with your sister.
The Ghost looked up at the woman to make sure she was okay, then she turned around.
Random Ghost: Hello hunter
Malex and Peacemaker: Oh Crap.
