In such a heavily team based game it is completely unacceptable to match solo players with pre-made teams of 3-6 players. It is so much of an advantage that as a solo player in a team of other random solo players it is impossible to counter a team that knows what it's doing. It is insanely frustrating to fail because of factors outside of your control, especially when you are doing everything right. It is quite simple just bad. Unacceptable.
This problem was in the game since the Beta. I'm quite convinced that it is the number 1 reason why players hate PvP and why so many refuse to play it.
Weapon inconsistency, connection inconsistency, complete lack of security and lack of bans outside of twitter/youtube drama, extremely long unkillable uncounterable Supers, all of this is nothing compared to broken matchmaking problem.
Essentially Bungie is using solo players as cannon fodder for stacked teams. They put solo players in games where no matter what they do, no matter how hard they try they cannot win. They will lose and it won't be their fault. It is infuriating. It is such incomprehensibly bad design, truly nothing can redeem this kind of trait.
Think about it, what exactly does this accomplish? Probably it provides faster matchmaking times. But who the hell want to matchmake into a broken game? Clearly cutting the max team size by half would be a better solution. It will provide balanced, winnable games with faster matchmaking. Max pre-made party size of 2 would eliminate this and put everyone on a lot more even ground.
Reducing max party size to 2 players will provide a more even, consistent experience where players can have an enjoyable time. Dying over and over to stacked team is not fun. It is quite frankly the most frustrating experience I've had in any video game, further amplified by Destiny 2 simple, lane-based map design and lack of tools to deal with multiple opponents such as fast TTK or powerful, readily available grenades.
Even with these tools added to the game, it will still be incredibly frustrating to play against a pre-made team.
