I have over 975 hours logged into this game, and masterworking your own items may as well not even be a thing. It's definitely not an option for me, and I think I put in a good amount of play time. I don't crazily infuse random items, but I don't want to get stuck using undesirable perks for very long just to be able to run at my highest light level. I have a couple of items per character that I always run, and I can barely keep a handful of cores on hand. Spending 3 hours a day using the brother Vance loophole isn't something I even care to consider.

THIS. 1 infusion shouldn't take more than 1 core and it shouldn't take 17 cores or whatever it is to masterwork a weapon

The problems are: 1. They are far too rare a currency for the mundane function they serve. It’s like your grocery store demanding payment in diamonds. 2. They take far too much work to obtain. 3. That work is not part of the natural process of gameplay and is unpleasant. Which is why Bungie is never going to win this fight. They’re either going to have to back down or they’ll bleed players until the game fails. Fact is they need us more than we need them. Only question is how long it will take them to figure this out.... ....and how much damage will they do to the franchise and their reputation (again) before they do?

Masterworked 1 armor and 1 weapon last night. Still went positive on cores. Don’t be wasteful, and you won’t be short in cores, simple as that.

The problem is people wasting them for only a level or 2 increase. Save them until about 680+ before you start infusing old gear. There's plenty that drop
