Given that bungie kept saying it wasn't just gambit, only for it pretty much to be just gambit, except for the PVE activity.... that's locked behind gambit and gives out rewards for gambit, its not unreasonable. I know, I know, shame on anyone that believes anything thay bungie says at this point.

"Completely different" It has been stated in the ViDoc that it's literally just a sweatier gambit, nothing changed, you just have specific roles now. As if this game didn't have enough sweat in it already.
