Hello everybody. First of all - sorry for my horrible language, grammatics and sentence building. I'm not a native speaker and know English language only from self-education. I really hope that your eyes won't pop out from this text :D Thank you for your appreciaion. I saw some threads on this forum about transmog system and the most common question that was asked is "Why dont we have it?" But i didnt see almost any specific information in them. I wanted to pinpoint this interesting thing that somebody didnt even heard of and it's consequences in a couple of games that implemented it in their lifetimes.
For those who dont know about it - Transmogrification system is a systems where you go to a special NPC, click two button and your ugly AF chestpiece starts to look like any other chestpiece that you choose. Reversable, ofcourse. Only looks can be changed, not the stats.
First example - World of Warcraft.
Until Cataclysm expansion (and for some time during it) WoW player had to make the same tough decision as Destiny's player right now - either your look fasionable and be pretty useless in end-game content and overall QoL experience, or you look like a bum from a dumpster or from some crazy-arse fasion show though have enough stats to be able to compete in end-game\pvp\cheesing through outdoor content. Wanting to kill a boss with fasion (and actually trying to do it) usually caused a wipe.
Now a couple of words about WoW's endgame PvE. Raiding. *Relax guys, i'm making a point here.* Anyway - there are plenty of raids in WoW separated by expantion eras. Next expansion or major content patch always (ALWAYS) make previous gear absolutely obsolete. For example - gear from 4.0.1 content patch raids became complete garbage when Firelands patch came out, 4.2 if i'm not mistaken. From some point it bacame an inside joke, spawning alot of memes, videos, forum posts "and THIS guy killed me on BG" showing some visual atrocious. For example
http://wowlol.ru/img0/9d61482c.jpg Translation - Warlock lvl 70 in one of the best item sets from The Burning Crusade - and the same warlock after a couple of hours of questing in next expansion, Wrath of The Lich King
Here is a Destiny parallel - gear from Scourge of The Past raid (in WoW's realities) would make all gear from Last Wish an absolute garbage. Yes, in this aspect Destiny is really better then WoW.
And, finally, in patch 4.3 World of Warcraft saw the content update that changed the game itself. Introducing Transmogrification system had made a huge, enormous impact on WoW's community. Practically it created a cult of transmog for some.
Here are some changes that it made. Not intentionally, but indirectly.
1)It made old, previous expansions, content alive again. For some rare items people started to farm rare mobs with huge respawn times. In old raids people started to create transmog-runs where they shared items. Or solo them if they could kill the bosses. Old dungeons in one second became desireable again. Because precious loot!
2)Where you have some rare item dropped - would it be raid or a rare spawn - you always will see players farming for it. Both factions. Yes - transmog system actually made an open-world PvP battles, a long forgotten art, a thing again. Till this day i remember massacres that both factions (i was always a Horde player) did near Bastion of Twilight entrance. Even now from time to time you can have some dumb pvp fun near ICC or Black Temple entrance. Places that were plain dead before transmog arrived.
3)Created hell of a revenue for Blizzard. Even in Cataclysm people logged in to do some daily quests stuff and logged off. And many people actually started to pay for WoW because they found a new reason to play - to collect all *pokemons* armours\weapons for their class and spec. And this takes countless months of playing.
4)And some minor stuff. For example - people started to make quests again. Lol that sounds ridiculous, but some quests have unique items via rewards and people wanted them, ofcourse. And they farmed for it. Many people actually started to appreciate lore of this game.
See? Only one option - and it made so much difference. But remember - only Sith think in absolutes - ofcourse there are people who like transmog and people who dont care about it. But i dont know anyone who really dislikes it. And Blizzard embraced it. Made it better from expansion to expansion. For example, Mists of Pandaria challenge dungeon sets. Or transmog collection changes in Legion prepatch. And yes, transmog system is the second best thing that happened to WoW overall. First one, obviously, Dungeon Finder (not raid finder though, but this is an offtopic). In the end, there are three major things to do in wow - endgame PvE, PvP and transmog farming.
And almost the same stuff, but in much less conditions, happened in Diablo 3 in Reaper of Souls expansion. Excpluding PvP part ofcourse. People started to spend countless hours in the Mystic's shop by changing their gear visually. But what most importantly - Blizzard used Diablo 3 and a test for this transmog system before implementing this in Legion. People loved it and WoW community got these changes later.
And these changes can come to Destiny. An old content can be made alive again. Right now people are completing Leviathan raid only for exotic chance from caches in an Underbelly. After transmog system implement they (and me) will run it for armour. Because i think that warlock Leviathan armor looks lit. Subjective, ofcourse. Also i really like some gloves looks, but i cant use them because Enhanced Hand Cannon reloading perk makes all other gloves that i have useless junk. Gloves are Philomanth, but the way - they have fingers like claws that you can paint in metallic colors, looks awesome in first person. All previous raids and raid lairs, all planet vendors will become useful again. I would cut my hand off to be able to be transmogged in Warmind armor. Both sets look insane. Much better then this Tangled Shore junk-like stuff.
People WILL start to farm old planets to get full armor sets. We WILL pay some fee to get our items transmogrificated. This system can have some interactions with other ingame mechanics.
Simplest example - it could potentially be a problem-solver for Enhancement Cores problem. Just make all Spier bounties reward like 2, or even 3, and set some price for transmog in these cores. And make strike last bosses drop them. Problem solved. People will run short strikes like crazy to get the cores for transmog. They will 100% do it. Dont want them to run only short ones? Make it that long strike bosses have higher change to drop it, or even 100% drop + some % for second one. So people will have some constant small income and some one-time weekly big chunk. Destiny's old conent will see tremendous buff in popularity. Numbers always can be changes and tweaked. This system can be item-based or slot-based, where you just transmog a gloves slot and all gloves will look like transmoged, etc. Just imagine the possibilities.
And yes - implementing transmogrification system in Destiny 2 can be its testing for Destiny 3. Like Diablo 3 changes were a testing before adding them in Legion WoW. To not to make simple mistakes like ornaments were. Ornament system was horrible, in my humble opinion, i'm not surprised it was cut off.
Oh, and this way "give us season 1 gear with random stats" - question will be closed and will never come back.
Oh, and dont tell us that in PvP that will create negative impact because you cant see a person's exotic. Firstly, sometimes you cant. Like AntonioTF said in his post somewhere nearby - you have a fraction of a second to see a guy running at you from the corner with a shotty. You wont be able to look at his gear. And secondly, transmog systems can have its restrictions - for example on exotic armor and weapons. Apart from obvious ones like you cant transmog titan gear onto warlock, hand cannon into a scout etc. Also it can have restriction for weapons altogether, with all these changable scopes and whatevah.
Comment and show your opinion on my thoughts and this sutiation overall, boiz and girlz. Sencierly yours, Mafusail.
