This was a long one to write. Hope you all enjoy.
Welcome to LFD! This series is meant to be an easily digestible, simplified, short, and somewhat entertaining lore ‘crash course’ for those who want to learn more without wading through grimoire.
The Vault of Glass
So, in this post, I think this school year has kinda depleted my humor, so sorry if this post seems kind of more info-based than ShadowSniper’s LfDs.
Anyway!
The Vault of Glass (with a surprising lack of glass) is a Vex construct from D1, and is the first Raid (and best in my totally unbiased opinion) to exist. If you never played or watched it, it consists of killing Vex, and killing bigger Vex in the typical Raid fashion.
In this LfD, we will be going over the typical Vex frames you encounter in the Vault, the purpose behind this construct, and the even bigger Vex inside of there.
First off, let’s get all the boring things out of the way. Goblins, Hobgoblins, Harpies (the normal ones) are all there for terraforming the Vault, and protecting it. Fun fact: all the Vex we have encountered so far are just mining models! We have yet to see any actual combat frames.
Now, onto the unique enemies:
Praetorians - These stronk boys are the mass-produced “guardians” of the Vault. They mainly protect the plates, or these “links” to the Vex network in the Vault. Oh, and before I get any further, most of the Vex in the Vault are from the Virgo Prohibition and the Sol Imminent, or the collectives/clans of the Vex. Of course, “clans” is kind of a bad word for a hive mind, but you get the idea.
Fanatics - The crazy ass bombers of the Vault, they will always show up at the one spot you were least expecting, giving your team a wipe, and even less trust in you than before. These guys are special to the Vault. Not the models, no, but they share a common difference with your everyday Fanatic, where they will leave these little pools of spoiled Vex milk. These pools will “Mark you for Negation”, which is the fancy term for deleting the player. Nothing is really special besides that to note, and that they are specific Vex to the Templar (who we will get to).
Supplicants - If you have ever done the Eater of Worlds, these guys actually show up in there. However, instead of just standing back and firing, these Vault of Glass Supplicants/Harpies are also suicide bombers. Of course. These protect Atheon, who we will get to.
Descendant Vex - The grandpas of the mining frames, these guys have been alive for a long time, outdating most grandpas. These guys are the ancestors of the mining frames, and really do nothing more than protect important parts of the Vex network, like the Vault.
Precursor Vex - Also the ancestors of the mining frames, these frames were built before mankind existed. Nothing more is really of to note besides that, and that they defend mainly the Gatekeepers of the Vault, which we are covering right
Gatekeepers - now! These Gatekeepers, well, keep Gates. Vex Gates, to be more exact. Their main goal is to assist in protecting Atheon, and do that by attempting to lock us in time. Sadly, not a lot is said about them, besides them having both an Descendant form and a Precursor form.
Onto the bosses (and Oracles):
The Templar: Oh boy. Here we go. The Templar, or another massive Hydra, controls reality in the Vault. Kind of a crazy thought to wrap your head around, but imagine it like the Reality Stone from Marvel. Except instead of a Stone, it’s these little yellow, Vex-y things that control the Vault. Besides that, the Templar pretty much acts like a giant Gatekeeper with an immune shield.
Oracles - Oracles are basically the “all-seeing eyes” of the Vex, where they look ahead towards their own inevitable victory. Of course it’s a little biased, but it’s the most personality a glowing orb will get. Anyways, the Templar uses these orbs to bring that ideal future into the Vault, attempting to kill us with our doom. Simply put, if you’ve ever played Pokémon, it’s like Future Foresight (I think it was called) where in a couple turns, a meteor would strike us.
Gorgons - Moving on from that confusing shit, we go on to more confusing shit! Yay! So, the Gorgons in the Vault have the ability to decide what is or isn’t real, kind of like the Oracles. So, if you accidentally bumped into a Gorgon walking down the street, it can just decide that you don’t exist anymore. Which is kind of terrifying.
Atheon, Time’s Conflux - And finally, the big boy. Atheon is a Precursor-ish boss, or the final boss of the Vault. Surprisingly, besides his origin (as it’s not really known if he made the Vault or not, or where he came from), his abilities are the simplest to understand. He has control over time. Yep. He also has control over Oracles and the such, though I’m not sure why he didn’t just set a bunch of Gorgons around him.
So, finally moving on from the enemies, what is the purpose of the Vault?
The Vault is/was basically a base of operations for the Vex, so that they may travel through time without consequences. Oryx attempted to tap into the network, and threatened the end of the Vex entirely, which means the Vault was kind of a big deal for the Vex. According to our Ghost, it also seems to be the only Vault in existence in multiple timelines.
Edit: Completely forgot about the Aegis. The Aegis is a glorified pizza dish that can “change one’s fate”, and was forged by Kabr, one of the first to explore the Vault. By changing one’s fate, we can avoid the inevitable doom of the Oracles.

So, there you have it. Hope that helped. Next LfD will hopefully be ready for sometime next week, and it shouldn’t take me as long as this one did. Smash Ultimate and school have been... distracting.
Thank you for reading! Feel free to add anything you wish that is missing in the comments.

The purpose of the Vault was a vex attempt to replicate Hive Throne Worlds
