Welcome to my addition to Lore for Dummies! This is my first go, so make sure you give me feedback so I can improve my lore writing. I'm doing this as part of a competition to take over the series.
Alright dummies, today I'm going to be giving a brief history of the Last City. The City is known as the last safe haven for humanity. This is mostly true, as some settlements (like the farm) still exist, but they are much more risky to live in because of the possibility of raids by enemies like the Fallen. That being said, if living under the constant threat of being attacked by a giant spider-like creature if your kind of thing, go for it.
The City is also home to the Guardians, the people who have been resurrected by Ghosts because of their unique ability to wield the Travelers light. Basically, they're demigods with superpowers.
I can cover Guardians another time, but I'm only explaining them briefly because the City is a big enough topic already.
Now that we have a basic summary over with, let's get into a little bit more detail.
Location:
The City is located in, um . . . . Well, we don't actually know that yet. There are a lot of different theories though. These theories include, but are not limited to: the Rockies (USA), The Urals (Russia), and the Himalayas (Nepal). If your interested, I suggest you look into it farther.
History:
The history of the City is a long one. It began with a simple purpose; create a settlement for people to gather together as one after the civilization collapsed. Naturally, the people of Earth chose to make this settlement under the Traveler. As word of this settlement spread, the City grew. Eventually, the first Titans built the walls we know and love today. But the City wasn't always a great place.
One of the most turbulent times in the City's history were the Faction Wars. This, for all intents and purposes, was a civil war fought between the City's Factions, which are basically the equivalent of political parties in Destiny. So yeah . . . Not good. Thankfully, this eventually ended when the Guardians stepped in and ended the conflict.
Other not-so-good parts of the City's history are the multiple Fallen attacks, namely the Battle of Six Fronts and the Battle of Twilight Gap. The Battle of Six Fronts is, well, exactly what it sounds like. The Fallen House of Devils launched an attack on the City from six different sides. However, they were repelled and forced to retreat by four Titan orders.
The Battle of Twilight Gap is another battle. In this battle, all of the Fallen houses united to assault the City head on. This would have meant the end of the City, but the Reef decided to stop the House of Wolves from joining the battle. Now the battle had an even playing field. It was truly legendary. Shaxx and Zavala earned fame from their feats, Ana Bray went missing, and when the dust settled, the battle was won.
The last major part of the City's history is the Red War. You should all know this, but allow me to refresh you just in case. Gary (Ghaul) and his Red Legion launched a surprise attack on the City. After several weeks, the Vanguard was able to launch a counteroffensive that ended in Gary's death, the defeat of the Red Legion and the liberation of the City.
Government:
Lastly, the City's government is Called the Consensus. It is made up of the Vanguard, representatives of the most powerful Factions (currently New Monarchy, Dead Orbit, and Future War Cult), and it is lead by the Speaker. The Consensus continues to operate, despite the extremely anticlimactic and emotionless death of the most recent Speaker.
So there you have it! A (somewhat) brief history of the Last Safe City. I hope that the #lore newbies enjoyed it and learned something. I also hope that any Lore Masters who end up reading this (looking at you Archival Mind) could help correct any errors they may see. Thank you, and I hope that I will be able to continue helming this series in the future.
