I don't know if I'm alone here, but does anyone else wonder what the traveler actually is and why it exists in the first place!?
The traveler, I know this is a video game, but the longer I look at it, the more mysterious it gets.
Look at its details, in the chipped off centers of its body, it looks like a city is up there.
Why has no one flown up there and landed?
It was dead in the first game, and now it has awoke in this game, it looks alive now with everything rotating around it. Now I wonder why the traveler didn't fall to the ground in the first game if it was dead?...
Anyways, leave a comment.

<Depending on the state of the Traveler when it arrived, it may have been completely sealed off, so nobody could truly enter it and attempted studies could not get past its external layer due to energy and material makeup. The Traveler was never "dead" in the way you and I think of it. Even in early D1 they reference how it can steal heal and bleed. Hence why most describe it as going dormant. Whatever entity is inside that thing never wanted to wake up anyway... for even she knows what's coming. The fact that the Gardener stays here is either an act of bravery or an act of foolishness. That will all depend on those ships making their way here.>

Fenchurch claims to have been inside the traveler, but I wouldn’t trust him.

It’s a woman

Edited by Tâxx, Herald of the IRS: 11/17/2018 2:57:04 AMWell, i believe the big white ball is a vessel for the actual Traveler that resides within. Just like how i think the Triangle ships are vessels for the Deep. As for what the Traveler itself is? Honestly i believe it's a God. As in an omnipotent (or at least near omnipotent) God that represents life and creation. I honestly believe the Deep and the Traveler were born at the dawn of existence, and the Traveler created the universe (or universes).

I never wanted to do this job in the first place! I... I wanted to be... A lumberjack! Leaping from tree to tree! As they float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia! With my best girl by my side! The Larch! The Pine! The Giant Redwood tree! The Sequoia! The Little Whopping Rule Tree! We'd sing! Sing! Sing! Oh, I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay, I sleep all night and I work all day. He's a lumberjack, and he's okay, He sleeps all night and he works all day. I cut down trees, I eat my lunch, I go to the lava-try. On Wednesdays I go shoppin' And have buttered scones for tea. He cuts down trees, he eats his lunch, He goes to the lava-try. On Wednesdays 'e goes shoppin' And has buttered scones for tea. I cut down trees, I skip and jump, I like to press wild flowers. I put on women's clothing, And hang around in bars. He cuts down trees, he skips and jumps, He likes to press wild flowers. He puts on women's clothing And hangs around.... In bars??????? I chop down trees, I wear high heels, Suspenders and a bra. I wish I'd been a girlie Just like my dear papa. He cuts down trees, he wears high heels Suspenders?? And a.... A Bra???? *visible disgust and confusion as the choir leaves*

The Traveler is a cage.

The way I look at it the traveler could be 3 things
Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

SYLOK THE DEFILED!
But the most likely scenario would be
A giant ball full of Edge Transits
I personally think it’s a god incubator holding something.

imo this ball is silly, yes, different, but a silly floating ball which gave light (life) to small flying robots, which gave light to corpses, us guardians... until it didn't a floating ball...whatever, never been invested story-wise, wonder why... some lore is interesting though...

The real question is, can it make more ghosts? Can Cayde be found by another ghost?

Edited by Hydrilus: 11/14/2018 5:31:25 PMNo one knows what it is. Destiny's story has changed a bit since D1 but grimoire/lore cards from back then seem to reveal that the Traveler isn't some merciful, benevolent (or innocent) being. It's actually responsible for wiping humanity out ("the collapse") in the first place, and, using its advanced technology, bringing some of the population back to life as "guardians" to fight whatever beings threaten it (Cabal, Fallen, Hive, "the Darkness," etc). So, it's a bit strange that we worship it as a God, right? When it's responsible for genocide, and essentially enslaving us to fight for it... The problem is hardly anyone has a memory of their past lives, so most only have memories starting from when they were resurrected. Why does the Traveler need warriors to protect it? Well, it's likely done this whole genocide thing before with other races. Supposedly (could be remembering this wrong), it was occupying the Fallen homeworld, and they too worshipped it as a God. At some point, it left (to humanity) and the Fallen I guess hate us for that. They've attempted to recreate their own Traveler in a sense, through Servitors but obviously they don't compare. The Hive (I think) are a creation of the Traveler gone wrong. Cabal are just, Cabal. Some of those details could be wrong, so anyone feel free to correct me. It's been a while since I read about this stuff hehe.

Even in-game there are many theories on what the traveler is. From a machine to a god incubator, there are a lot of possibilities. The missing bottom of the traveler is the massive shard in the EDZ. Fencurch Everis has been inside the traveler, but we don’t really know what he saw. Before the ending of the Red War, the traveler wasn’t really dead, dormant or asleep would be a better term.
