Today i wanted to start a discussion on the state of trace rifles, and also talk about whats good, bad, and what could be changed about them
In my opinion, i dont think trace rifles are in a very good place in pve or pvp. and to keep things somewhat short heres why:
Ammo: the ammo per brick is still not enough to match the rate at which you are going through it, and the damage you are outputting. These weapons take special bricks and function sort of like auto rifles but with slightly more damage, here you can already feel how thats like.
Slots/Competition: These things have to compete for not only useage in the special slot, but also your exotic weapon slot. So the coldheart (used for single target damage) is competing against things like Whisper, Sleeper, 1000v's, and even shotguns such as ikelos. The Prometheus Lens (used for mob clear) is competing against things like sunshot, riskrunner, even primaries with outlaw/kill clip/ rampage, which is arguably more effective
[What i would like to see done]: in general i think it should be 1000 flat magazine and go from full to empty at will so there is no downtime between firing beams, but individually
-Coldheart: hitting about 50% of the beam should slow a target down or freeze them for a short period of time, and the frozen enemy should be vunerable to precision damage for said time
-Prometheus Lens: no cap on sunspot size, sunspot should have a small damage over time effect on mobs (not in pvp... thorn lol) this would give it even greater add clear potential and make it shine at what its used for compared to other weapons
Tell me what you guys think, im curious to hear others opinions about this
