Okay, lets face it. In the current state of PvP, shotguns are definitely the kings when it comes to special weapons. Snipers honestly feel very underwhelming. I've definitely noticed players on PC can use them better than on console simply because PC is much more precise, but as a player on console there's really no use in using them. There's a few issues with them in my opinion. The biggest three however have got to be the ammo economy, flinch, and the absence of a strong close-mid range primary that can shut down shot gun users who don't know how to maneuver effectively. Snipers need more than two bullets off spawn. The problem with only having two bullets is the fact that the ammo upon getting a kill isn't right in front of you as it typically is when using a shotgun, you typically have to go and get it which means putting yourself out there to get shot as well as not looking for further engagements. The fix to this would simply be making snipers spawn with 3-4 bullets along with picking up 2 bullets without a scavenger perk, and picking up 3 when you do. That way players using a sniper rifle actually have the ammo to take shots at people. Flinch needs to be reduced as well. I'm not saying reverting it back to the way it was in Destiny year one and two, but it needs to be able to be corrected, and right now unless you see the opposing player first and connect with your shot, or he misses, snipers don't feel possible to correct whatsoever. The third and final problem with snipers in the current state of PvP is the absence of a short to mid range shot gun stopping primary. Think Last Word for example. It allowed players to quickly dispatch careless shotgun rushes with ease. If it were to come to Destiny 2 it would have to be in a category all of its own(like 220 rpm), probably like a sidearm that has extended range so that the 180 rpm handcannons don't become completely obsolete. It would kill in three headshots, 3 body shots and a head, and 5 body shots, meaning it would do 40 to the body and 80 to the head encouraging the player using it to prioritize headshots while using it instead of spamming it. It would also keep its 8 magazine size so it would be meant for single targets instead of multiple. I'm saying this as an experienced crucible player who used snipers and last word almost exclusively in D1. I just want sniping to be viable again, and I hope anyone who reads this feels the same way.

It’s the map design. Most of the maps are too small for 6v6 let alone generic sniping. Apart from the godly players who can hit headshots like it’s nothing, the maps don’t really cater for long range combat. It’s a real shame all the pvp maps from curse of Osiris onwards are overall warm garbage. I’d honestly take back all the D1 maps over what we have now. Edited by SnakePayne86: 10/1/2018 7:16:35 PMShotguns are lame though and you don’t get any respect using them. I mean on paper, that person running around slide shotgunning may be doing well, but underneath , anyone with half a brain knows that person isn’t that skilled of a player..

There’s not enough flinch on snipers. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been nailing a sniper in the head nonstop with high-caliber rounds and I still get sniped.

We cannot aid the person who refuses to engage. There should be no reason we give more ammo to the person camping lanes and not engaging. Even if that is not how you snipe that is what the game will turn into if we gift snipers more ammo than everyone else. Shotgunners have to engage in order to kill. Plus pick up ammo. No one should be rewarded for head glitching and staying as far away from the fight as possible. If your good you will get 2 free kills then you have to go hunt for ammo like everyone else. Also 80 crit side arm sounds crazy. HC do like 70 to the head. That is luna's howl body shot powerful. I don't want snipers to dominate meta it was the worse meta in destiny. Snipers can be a part of the meta but it should reward a skilled hand not make it easy. Sniper should have the highest skill ceiling. Good sniper will beat anything.

I've been using snipers the whole time (in competitive too) and I don't find them to be underwhelming at all. Could do with some more sniper friendly maps though.

Have you ever played a match on equinox? Shotguns are useless there. Snipers are perfect for that map

I always run my Supremacy and my Trust and do just fine, snipers are plenty viable on any map with enough practice and map awareness imo. Just much harder to have ammo consistently.
