I see a lot of people wanting cayde to have a big memorial somewhere in the tower and while I completely understand and somewhat agree with this from a player perspective, lore wise it makes no sense.
Think of all the heroes of the tower. Saint-14, Wei Ning, Eriana-3, The Iron Lords and all the previous hunter vanguards like Andal Brask. There was never anything comemorating them, we only knew of their existence through lore tabs outside of the game. I'm not sure if it's a case of denial or maybe just an acceptance of the dangerous way guardians live but they don't seem to be big on memorials. Cayde is merely the latest in a long line of dead heroes, the only reason he's special is because we as a player knew him personally. Just an observation.
Edit: To all those saying, yes I know 8 of the Iron Lords have statues but that is at Felwinter peak and that temple was closed to all but Saladin for hundreds of years. The tower is/was void of any memorials save the small ones we have for Cayde. Maybe there is a graveyard for honoured guardians somewhere in the city but there is not one at the tower.

Forget a statue... it’s about time I had my own throne world. I’ve killed enough enemies between D1&D2 to equal Thanos’ snap lol

Edited by blade329: 9/21/2018 10:53:46 PMI know what Zavala would say to that, "We are not artists, we are not sculptors. We are guardians. We need to keep our eyes here....doing nothing....".

What needs to happen in D3 is, when Tower North gets repaired, Bungie has to put a small wall with the names of accomplished Guardians, ie Legends, that are KIA or MIA, in the Courtyard. Inspecting it could read: "A memorial to those who have passed: Wei Ning, Ulan-Tan... Cayde-6... Always remember to honor the dead, Guardian." "A memorial to those who have passed... Huh, looks like someone tried to cross out 'Ana Bray' with a knife. Zavala needs to get that looked at." "These are some of the greatest Legends the City has ever had; Powerful groups like the Iron Lords - minus Efrideet - and even the Sunbreaker Order. Influential individuals like Ulan-Tan and Saint-14. Even non-Guardians like Ayane Takanome and her Rangers." "A memorial to those who have passed. It's considered an honor to have your name etched onto this after your final death... Let's hope your name doesn't end on here anytime soon."
-
Alright I'm going to sound really self-absorbed, but we should have a statue by now... We literally killed an Archon on our first day, proceed to single handedly slay the heart of the black garden and then went on to kill multiple hive gods and become an Iron Lord. We should totally get a statue
-
Ikora literally states that Cayde would hate the idea of having a statue. His picture framed up at the spicy ramen shop is enough. Maybe name his favorite dish after him. You guys have seen his picture there, right?
-
I think that the tower should get a room filled with memorials of fallen guardians with a special item belonging to each of them.
-
There’s a memorial for him in the ramen shop It’s what Cayde would have wanted
-
But Cayde does have a plaque on the floor next to Zavala.
-
You make a good point. In an age of near godlike heroes, where does it end when they finally do pass away? Maybe they have an equivalent of Arlington national cemetery? Or the catacombs under Winterfell?
-
No statues. Because guardians don't die. They simply go MIA
-
Um, first, the Iron Temple is a thing. It has statues of 9 of the 98 dead iron lords. Second, the Firebreak order of Titans lit a memorial fire for Wei-Ning. They kept it burning until the Red War when every titan in the order took part of the fire and sealed it within their ghost shell.
-
I don't care what the lore is, this was our boy and he deserves to be remembered and let's face it before our characters arrived the vanguard were just an incompetent mess, and guardians were apart from a few standouts useless for example how many guardians fell on the moon before we rocked up and made crota look like a low key strike, Cayde had our hearts and as characters we have done enough in this universe to demand Zavala builds a monument basically cause we damn well say so
-
He would get a statue because Ikora and Zavala were close to him and they’re the big bois in charge
-
I could see it being put up at the farm
-
He has a framed picture hung up at his favorite Ramen Shop. What else does he need??

Edited by Nickel7Dime: 9/22/2018 6:59:59 AMYou act as though the tower is this small area. There is more than likely an area in the tower for fallen guardians, we just dont get to go there. In contrast to your statement there actually is no canonical reason that there should not be a memorial to cayde.your reasoning makes absolutely no sense. Just because we havent seen the memorials ourselves doesnt mean they dont exist. And as others have mentioned, there are other memorials such as the ones to the iron lords, what does it matter if they are in the tower? In fact it wouldnt make much sense for them to be in the tower, given the fact that they didnt really seem to operate out of the tower. It makes sense for cayde to have a memorial in the tower, since that was basically his base, and he was a vanguard. And it would make sense to have some kind of larger, potentially temporary memorial in the part of the tower we are in, because it is the active part of the power for active guardians. In fact we have already seen them have a temporary statue in the tower for a far less significant event, so why would they not do one for a much more important event, the death of one of the three vanguards?
-
Might be one down in the City for all we know.
-
A simple solution to this “issue” would be to have a tribute to our fallen vanguards/guardians. I’m not talking about a huge statue but something as simple as a bust like the pro football hall of game or even a picture of their face that we can walk up to and interact with in a memorial room or something. The interaction portion can also include lore or a short info about how they served the vanguard. I personally don’t mind the settle things that Bungie has put in the game to honor Cayde but I think this idea would expand upon what most of you are wanting.

ace of spades plaque on the ground near zavala
-
Uh... have you not been to the Iron Temple?
-
A lot more heroes got memorials than you realize. The Iron Lords have the giant statue circle in the Iron Temple, The Firebreak Order lit a flame for Wei Ning that has burned since the day of her death, and the only reason there wasn’t anything for Saint-14 was because we didn’t know whether he was dead or not. There are bound to be people who are still in denial about his death, and saying we confirmed his death would blow the lid off the Osiris thing that Ikora was trying to keep a secret.
-
There is a Cayde memorial by Zavala... It's not a statue, but it's a golden gun floor tile
-
Personally I think the Iron Lords are a bad example for your argument... *standing in Iron Temple with 8 huge statues of fallen Iron Lords behind me*
-
There comes a time with almost any video game where catering to the player is more important than "making sense". This is one of those times. There's a hundred different ways they can explain it away later.
-
literally all of the iron lords have statues btw
-
As a bit of a counterpoint, though, Cayde seems to have been a man of the City. Where the Iron Lords had the Temple, and other heroes have come and gone, Cayde was the kind of man who really clicked with people. Amanda, Ikora Rey, presumably other people in places he frequented. Cayde had that sort of easygoing, friendly personality that made people like him. Even Hawthorne and Deverim, neither of whom were particularly fond of Guardians, liked him. That would be part of why he might get a memorial. Not JUST because of his heroism, but because, more than being a hero, he was a friend.
