Just finished the campaign last night and hugely enjoyed it. We knew Mara had to be something evil, but we didn't expect the thing it was. The Barons also have super fun stages and fights.
But after thinking about it, I'm left wondering why Uldren killed Cayde. What was his motive? Uldren was imprisoned by Petra, as Petra explains in her final bit after the Riven fight. If Uldren should have killed anyone, it should have been her. The Barons had a bigger grudge against Cayde for imprisoning them, I thought. Uldren was like ... cleanup duty.
I haven't collected all the lore yet, so am I missing some kind of past history between them that would explain Uldren's motive, here? Or is he just a sadist who likes killing?

Bungie Exec: Nathan Fillion wants how much money? Hey, Uldren! Come here for a sec. Uldren: What’s up? Bungie Exec: You’re gonna have a, uh, expanded role in this next DLC. Uldren: Yay.

Why’d he have to kill Cayde? 1. He hates Guardians, so that would’ve been a huge blow to us, which it was. 2. He was being controlled, so whatever was controlling him hates us too. 3. He’s a donknozzle

Edited by emp strqnding: 9/13/2018 1:11:36 AMnot considering his "taken" state of mind, I think uldren holds a grudge against guardians because his sister sacrificed the safety of the reef for earth when she stopped the house of wolves this became worse when she tried to save them again from oryx, and "died" doing it he likely mistrusted strangers to the reef already. none of that helped

I just had it pointed out to me that when Uldren says, "This is going to hurt," you can hear Mara saying it with him. So ... Cayde was killed, by proxy, by Riven.

Point 1). Uldren is a tremendous prick who always hated Guardians, so a chance to take down one of their elites? Too good to pass up. 2) Appeasement. He's showing the Scornb that playing his game has benefits. What better way than to kill the man who jailed them?

In some cutscene or trailer, it said that he hated guardians, and that he would often send them to their deaths on pointless quests (IE: Gatelord head), or he’d just kill them himself. Why he holds the grudge against guardians? I’ve got no clue.
