Analyzing the song from the E3 Trailer, “Go to the Light”. And how it may relate to us.

All rights to their respective owners. Okay? Anyhoo, let us begin. The song above is “Go to the Light” by Murder By Death. My goal here is to analyze the lyrics, try to hypothesize why Bungie chose this song, and throw out a few theories on what may happen next. To do this, let us go bit by bit.
A lonesome star in a bitter sky I hear the hungry ghosts calling out in the night Just a couple victims of this brutal reprise Am I strong enough to let things just die?
This verse of the song is singing about a lonesome star, perhaps a hero. The “Hungry Ghosts” could be their enemies, calling out for vengeance, as the next statement gives clues to. A “Brutal Reprise”? In the Destiny universe, this could relate to the Fallen, and how we’ve basically slaughter thousands of their kind. The “Am I strong enough to let things just die”?” part seems to tell us that this hero is tired, and wishes to give up. This could in be in reference to Cayde, or even us.
I fight and I fight Just to keep the spark alive But if there's nothing on the other side Why can't I leave well enough alone and go to the light? Go to the light Go to the light
This next verse is rather easy to relate to. We fight day and night to protect our “Spark”. Perhaps the City, or the Traveler? As for “Why can’t I leave well enough alone, and go to the light?”, it may be to explain why we are always the centerpoint of killing all these gods, demons, etc. We can’t let them go. It’s just who we are.
A shadowy hand turns the page A dark theatre, move across the stage Teeth like a cone, scrape against the sky Feelin' alone in room full of life Stealing a few extra moments and fighting against time
These I’m rather unsure of. The “Shadowy Hand” could be in reference to Uldren as he is forcing these events in us. Or perhaps relating to Oryx in some way. A dark theatre is lost on me, I’ll need some help deciphering this one. “Teeth like a cone, scrape against the sky” seems to relate to the Worm God Xol, as Worm Gods are known for having huge amounts of “Teeth”. Or perhaps this is in reference to [RAID SPOILER]:
Babbles Worth (trust me, if you watched Byf’s video it’ll make sense)
Feeling alone in a room of life could be references to guardians in general. We weren’t made normally like other humans, exos, or awoken. We are dead things walking. And stealing for a few moments of time could be our efforts to try and keep the city alive.
Pushed on and pushed aside I've changed my song to match each story, I've changes sides Can I watch 'em as they fall when they finally try to stand Redeem myself for everyone I've buried with these hands?
This is easily a reference to how many we’ve slain. Perhaps now we should start accepting the Fallen as sentient beings, not just monsters. Now, why did Bungie choose this song? I think it was very deliberately chosen to show that we may not be as “good” as we’re often set up as. We are murderers, monsters, and quite possibly, thieves. To the Fallen and the Scorn, we are the ultimate enemy. This is partially why they may have killed Cayde. The other reason I can think of is that they’re a bunch of assholes In short, don’t go rushing off saying “For Cayde!” We are just as much the villain as they are.
Yes, I’m mostly bored okay!
I guess people have pointed out the song was written ages ago. Long before Destiny and has jack to do with "us". It's a song about going into the light when you die. I know a lot of people here are young but, it's getting like frikkin' Apple levels of ignorance now i.e. stuff somehow didn't exist before Apple "invented it" like nfc etc. etc. Bungie just picked a song that was appropriate for the mood of the western death scene. Do we have to go back to the 7th chest, spinfoil hat days again where people read Einstein levels of deep into stuff Bungie did while Bungie just looked on bewildered as to how people were plucking these random connections out of their arses!
