Time to see how the English Culture is represented in Destiny.
Upon reading this post, eagle eyed readers may notice a lack in Arthurian references (King Arthur, knights of the round table etc.), they’re going to be in a separate post as I wanna try something out with that. Anyways, enjoy:
Weapons:
- Longspée-A - named after William Longspée, 3rd Earl of Salisbury, an Anglo-Norman nobleman, primarily remembered for his command of the English forces at the Battle of Damme and for remaining loyal to his half-brother King John.
- Hotspur-A - hotspur is a nickname of Sir Henry Percy (1364-1403), known as Harry Hotspur, eldest son of the 1st Earl of Northumberland.
Ornaments:
- ragabone - A play-on the term ‘Rag-and bone man’, a Victorian practiced literally collecting rags and bones from households for resale.
Sparrows:
- Hastilude - hastilude is a generic term used the Middle Ages to refer to many kinds of martial games, specifically jousting. The sparrow’s lore tab makes direct reference to jousting and other jousting related terms.
Characters:
- the iron lords - The iron lords up-kept a rule to protect those oppressed by the warlords. These ideals and many others are similar to the Ten Commandments of chivalry, that was up-kept by the knights of the Middle Ages. Some of these similarities in commandments are: 3) “thou shalt respect all weaknesses and shalt constitute thyself a defender of them”. 9) “Thou shalt be generous, and give largesse to everyone”. 10) Thou shalt be everywhere and always a champion of the Right and the Good against Injustice and Evil. Some of the Iron banner armour and ornaments are also very reminiscent of medieval knights.
[spoiler]if you got this far, thank you for reading. I’d really appreciate if you leave any that I couldn’t find and I’ll edit OP with your find.
