So this is the first in a bunch of culture uploads today. Anyway the last of the Asian continent’s cultures, today we look briefly how the Chinese culture has influenced Destiny:
Weapons:
- The Jade Rabbit - Named after the Jade Rabbit from a story of Asian folklore, the moon Rabbit. The story tells the tale of a Rabbit who sacrificed it’s own body to feed an old man. The man was actually the Jade Emperor. The Rabbit was gifted life in the heavens and a new coat of fur, making it an almost Jade colour. The Rabbit was then tasked with the job to create the pull of immortality. An incident, in which the Rabbit gave more than one pill to an immortal, inevitably resulted in the rabbit’s punishment being exiled to the moon. The emblem in D1 can be found in the Hellmouth on the moon, a parallel to this story. - Jianshi AR4 - A Chinese “hopping” vampire is a type of reanimated corpse.
- Primes Diyù SR5 - The realm of the dead or “hell” in Chinese mythology.
- Jian-7 - Jian or Tian Jian, was the last king of Qi, one of the 7 major states of the warring states period of Ancient China.
- Armillary PSÜ - armillary speres we’re used for astronomical measuring. It was used in Ancient China (as well as Greece and later in the Islamic world and Medieval Europe). Armillary spheres are seen in various locations throughout both games.
- Kaifeng-HC3 - a prefecture-level city in east-central Henan province of China. Once the Capital of the Song Dynasty, and is one of the Eight Ancient Capitals If China.

Is the new Two tailed fox rocket launcher a reference to anything?

Good post. Also Jian 7 is a great pulse rifle for those lucky enough to get it.

I thought that the Jade Rabbit story was that he gave a pill of immortality to a God-turned-mortal. The pill was meant to be split in two, so that the man and his wife could each have half and be immortal without having to go up to the sky, the place they were banished from. Bandits then found out and tried to steal the pill. Out of desperation, the wife swallowed the pill and returned to the sky, where she was punished and banished to the Moon along with the Jade Rabbit. The wife became Chang’e, The Moon Dancer, and Hou Yi, the husband, represented the Sun. That’s what I remember, at least.

I'm not sure if it counts but there is the Bursting Wisdom shell. It's made to look like jade. Probably too vague a reference though.

Bump. As long as you keep doing these, I'll still comment on them.
-
Thank you, I actually enjoy reading these posts. Bungie should hire you to do the lore tabs for now on.
-
Don't know if this is much but in the fighting lion lore I think it mentions it's creator calling it by another name that I thinking Asian based but you might need to check it first.
