So one culture that has been requested by some people is Middle Eastern Culture. Now what you’ll find here is a mix of Iranian, Islamic, Parthian, Syrian, Babylonian and middle eastern (in general, ie it’s a current day thing), references. I’ll state what items belong to each.
Enjoy:
Weapons:
- Nergal PR4 (Parthian) - god of war, plague, death and disease.
- Zenobia-D (Syrian) - name of a 3rd century queen of the Syria based Palmyrene empire. The flavour text reads, “you were the true power on the throne”, a clear reference to the monarch.
- Parthian Shot (Parthian) - a light horse military tactic made famous by the Parthians, an ancient Iranian people.
- Zarinaea-D (Parthian) - a Sacae woman, sister of Cyraedus, and the wise of Marmares, ruler of the Parthians. She is noted for her beauty, wisdom and her bravery, as Sacae woman went into the field with men.
- Izdubar-D (Babylonian) - the representation of Gilgamesh (the king of the Sumerian (southern Iraq) city-state of Uruk and a major hero in ancient Mesopotamian mythology), in the Victorian era story ‘Ishtar and Izdubar, the epic of Babylon’ (1884) by Leonidas le Cenci Hamilton.
- Etana-S14 (Babylonian) - Etana was an Ancient Sumerian king of the city Kish.
Sparrows:
- Azure Azazyel (Islamic) - Islamic angel given the name Iblis (Islamic equivalent of the devil).
Ships:
- teatime with Marduk (Babylonian) - Babylonian god associated with water, vegetation, judgement and magic.
Characters:
- Suraya Hawthorne (General) - Suraya is a variant of the feminine name Soraya which is found mostly in the Middle East. Both names came from the Arabic name Thurayya, the Arabic name for the constellation “Pleiades”.
- Timur (Islamic) - most powerful ruler in the Muslim world, Temür was a Turco-Mongol conqueror and founder of the Timurid Empire in Persia and Central Asia, and he became the first ruler of the Timurid dynasty.
- Saladin (Islamic) - An-Nasir Salah as-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub (otherwise known as Salahuddin Al Ayyubi (If you’re reading this HuSeYiN_NYC, we were on about the same person in our conversation)) was the first Sultan of Egypt and Syria, the founder of the Ayyubid dynasty and the leader of the Muslim military campaign against the Crusader states in the Levant.

Thanks for the post, and awesome discussion.

Devrim Kay - Devrim is a Turkish name. (There’s no Asian post so it technically counts here)

I wish more of the forum was used for things like this instead of the usual complaining. Keep it up man, this is like a little oasis in a warzone.

Edited by Kazehikeeeeee: 8/22/2018 2:56:40 PMI honestly prefer the complaining about destiny and bungo these political comments on this thread. Interesting. A lot of hypocrites on here lol. "Your side is full of hateful violent racists, mine isn't even though my side is violent and racist! It's not the same!" Interesting post though, I didn't realize how much thought was put into them. I haven't really taken the time to read a lot of the descriptions

Hahaaha cursed thrall xD are muslims in D2 hahahaha Cx 😂😂🆑🅾️⛎✝️

This post is gonna bring out the Trump racist kids for sure.
-
Yes. They're fake virtue signaling, leftist, garbage white people. What of it?

Maybe after you post all of these individually you could combine all of these into a singular referential post called something like the "Historical Cultures Represented in Destiny". Post each of the culture details in a 'spoiler' (so the post isn't a mile long), with a link to each of your separate posts above the spoiler if they want to check out that specific post and the conversations tied to each.
Kudos to you sharing and interacting despite the trolls. I can be a troll myself sometimes (but usually to other trolls), and I do have a bad habit laughing at terrible jokes. But there is a difference in posting absurd joke responses on here and the insufferable pricks who PM you. Don't take any of it to heart though; anonymous bullying only proves cowardice and ignorance. Meanwhile your posts are the exact opposite, requiring intelligence and courage. Seriously, thanks for the time and effort you've taken.
I thought the countdown game mode in trials/comp was the only representation of middle eastern culture tbh

Pleiades Corrector, a gun from FWC

Actually, if you broaden your scope you may notice that the different Bungie teams that have worked on Destiny and now Destiny 2 have pulled names from all over the globe. You are just concentrating upon one area (and included some non middle eastern terms too). The D2 Iron Banner armor is reminiscent of ancient Japanese armor, etc.

Noice 👍

Hindu is not part of the Middle East
-
I’d just like to say thank you. Very very interesting and I must say completely unselfish that you took the time for this. This planet needs more people like you Guardian.
-
Neat. Thanks!
-
This was interesting, love this kind of stuff. Thanks for putting this together

I'm an aborted fetus and I feel alive again.
-
great post but hinduism isnt related to the middle east
-
The TAKEN represent them well enough, you can figure out why.

Worth noting that figures such as Azazel will appear in Christianity, Islam and Judaism just by virtue of being Abrahamic faiths. The same figures often appear in all three, such as Jesus for example. In Islam he is Issa, or Isa Ibn Maryam, i.e. Isa, son of Maryam, which for English is Mary. Jibril = Gabriel and so forth. But given all three religions originate in the Middle East, then your point stands :)
