Today we look to the Norse culture presented in the destiny universe.
i make reference in this post to something that is quite questionable but I’ve linked it to what I’ve interpreted it as.
Weapons:
- Painted sorg SR5 - song in Norse.
- Niflheim Frost - Niflheim is one of the nine worlds in Norse mythology. Primarily a realm of primordial ice and cold, with the frozen rivers of Élivágar and the well of Avergelmir, from which come all the rivers.
- Halfdan-D - A Viking leader and commander of the Great Heathen Army which invaded the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of England, First Viking king of Northumbria and one of the sons of Ragnar Lodbrok.
- Herja-D - A Valkyrie attested in the longer of the 2 Nafnapular lists found in the Prose Edda.
- Gjallerhorn - Name of a horn, associated with the god Heindallr and the wise being Mimir. It’s said the horns sound will notify the beginning of the end of the world, which is fitting given the rocket launchers destructive effects.
- Garmr SR1 - a wolf or dog associated with Hel and Ragnarök and described as a blood-stained guardian of Hel’s gate.
- The Valkyrie - named after the warriors of Valhalla.
Armour:
Thanks to BookGoblin (you legend)
- Atgeir gear set - Viking Age polearm
Subclass:
- sunbreakers - basic idea similar to that of Thor, the god of thunder. The method of acquiring the subclass is very reminiscent of the mythological creation of Mjolnir; both hammers are created using a forge whilst a dark force tries to interfere with creating the weapon (vex in destiny and Loki in mythology).
Characters:
- Völuspa - in universe, Rasputin referred to Völuspa as need for use of its resources alongside Charlemagne. (For now I see it as a sub-mind). Völuspa is a Norse poem by Poetic Edda. It tells the story of a volva addressing Odin about the coming end.
- Tormod - Tormod Kark was the slave and friend of Hákon Sigurdsson (Hákon Earl). (Both Tormod and Haakon were members of the iron wolves).
- Haakon - Haakon Sigurdsson was tense facto ruler of Norway from about 975 to 995.
thanks for reading. Anything I missed leave below and I’ll edit OP with a credit to the first person to bring it up.
Don’t forget the Jötunn

A Rahool quote from D1: "A Wind Age, a Wolf Age… a pre-sentiment of the Collapse?" This is part of the description of Ragnarök from the poem Völuspá.

Atgeir - Uncommon armor; Viking Age polearm

SKYRIM BELONGS TO THE NORDS!!!! Good post I like it, have a upvote
actually, Skyrim doesn’t. Most nords suck in my opinion. Just go to Windhelm as see for yourself. #notallaltmerarethalmor
Good stuff right here.

Another video game, disrespecting nordic culture, for financial gain.

-
My peoples mythology right here.

You should make a post with links to all your posts

You seem to confuse lazy naming with references. They aren't referencing Norse mythology, they just took a Norse pronoun book and mixed shit around. Same they've done with other cultures too.
-
Theres cultural references all over the place.. Osiris is an Egyptian god. Saladin (although the spelling is a bit off) was a muslim leader in the crusades. Half the vex race is named after greek mythology creatures (hydra, harpy, cyclops).. Love this kinda stuff.
-
You forgot Hans Free. He could shoot without taking his pistol out of his holster.
-
What about the Iron Lords culture just in general, with the axe, snowy mountain theme and the horned Titan IB ornament? Feels viking-ish. Just throwing it out there.
-
Nord or Scando.

Love these posts, and this would probably be my favorite so far. Keep it up!

Nice. There is something related to Finland aswell i think, seen couple weapons wich names are finnish like tuonela wich means afterlife in the fires and etana wich means slug lol. Maybe im wrong but just saying.
-
Somerled - the name itself, not so much the person
-
Only thing is the Valkyries are not the warriors of Valhalla, they are the ones that bring the Einherjar to Valhalla. Other than that, nice job

GJALLERHORN REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I now legit want a long grind to get it back in d2 like solstice
Love these posts, keep ‘em coming! Check out Rasputin 5, it references a few others like Loki crown, surtr, and fenrir. I won’t pretend to know what they mean in destiny lore, but they are definitely Norse. (That is easily one of my all time favorite grimoires!)
While I can see Sunbreaker as a being a nod to thor in general, your short synopsis here goes against what I have been taught about the story. Now I know there are multiple versions of most of these stories out there and it is hard to verify any one version as being more accurate than any other, but as far as I know the story does not have Loki interferring with the creation in the way you seem to lay it out here. Eitri and Brokkr create the hammer because Loki tricks them into creating it by making a bet with them (saying they can remove his head). After which he gifts it to thor. Which would mean your indication that Loki is trying to stop the creation of the hammer rather strange. As Loki is the catalyst for it's creation in the first place. Anyways, just stood out to me.

If I’m not mistaken, sunbreakers are supposed to be inspired by Vulcan rather than Thor
-
How about how the iron lords tree? That tree picture they have has nine branches on it because it is the Norse tree Yggdrasil which has nine worlds signified by nine branches.

Edited by Lebkazoo: 8/14/2018 4:10:23 PMGjallarhorn isn’t just any horn. It’s the horn that will supposedly sound the beginning of the end of the world.
