Vex and Whisper of the Worm

So whilst the quest is on Io, and you go through a huge Vex installation to get there, we could assume that the Taken have just infiltrated the place, much like they did in the Vault of Glass. But I'm curious as to why it is Vex chests that ultimately help upgrade your weapon, and give you your ship blueprints, which in turn are guarded by Vex Oracles by a Vex portal. Ok so you get blighted essence from the chests, which may hint at some Taken corruption even in the chests, but the Oracles do not appear to be corrupted. The order to shoot the Oracles is the same order that they appear in, in the Vault of Glass, which is what gets you that final chest. I don't think this is all coincidence. Firstly, they could have used Taken chests, and Taken entities, or simply Takenified the Oracles if it was just going to be an entire Taken thing. Secondly, I understand that Myelin Games had a hand in writing this quest, and there's simply no way he'd let this be an accident. So what are the Vex doing getting involved with this weapon and ship? The only links so far between Taken and Vex are as follows: - The Taken invade the Vault of Glass in Destiny 1. - The quest for No Time To Explain involves defeating Taken within the Vault of Glass, Taken Vex, and ultimately, Atheon. - We also know that Quria (a Vex Mind) was gifted as present to Savathun, but deliberately left somewhat sentient so that Oryx could deem whether or not she was worthy. In the lore, it was never specified what happened next, whether the Vex manipulated Savathun, or Savathun started manipulating the Vex. Given that the first two involve the Vault of Glass, and this quest leads us ultimately to the Vault, maybe there could be link there. Additionally, No Time To Explain is the Stranger's Rifle, and we now know that The Stranger is none other than Elsie Bray. This expansion deals with Clovis Bray and their research, so there's a possible link there. I feel like i have all the pieces and need to put them together. Normally we could post this to Myelin Games, but now he works for the other side we won't get anywhere with that! Help? :) ***EDIT*** okay I'm certain this is related to the Destiny 1 quest; 'Paradox' which sees you deal with the Taken invasion of the Vault of Glass. In this mission, the Vex are predicting their ultimate defeat and enslavement by the Taken. Praedyth helps show you a Vex vision of their future, which you reach by GOING THROUGH THE SAME PORTAL we arrive at in the heroic mission for the Whisper. Here is some dialogue from Praedyth as you approach the portal: Praedyth Ghost 3: They think this is the end of them, a path with no escape. And yet, here they are, there they were, and there they will be, and there they will have been. For them, there is no paradox. There is only the pattern. And the pattern needs the Vex to see it to completion. And so the Vex must be. For the mind of Vex, is that faith? And here is the dialogue once you go through: Praedyth: Welcome to the end of the Vex. Their "immutable" future. Enslaved to a will they don’t understand. A will long dead here. Dead, eon’s ago. But then they won’t end will they, because you’re here. The Vex won’t spare the city. They won’t even thank you. But that’s the thing about light, you never know where it will shine. So my question now is: What does the Whisper mission represent for the Vex? Clearly the Oracles are guarding the Vault of Glass. They haven't been corrupted on this side of the portal in our time. But clearly the Taken are still continuing to invade Vex spaces. I can't imagine Taken bothering to store their weapon and ship schematics carefully away in Vex chests, so I assume the Vex locked these away, which is why you need to overcome the Vex sequence to be given the chest by the Oracles. So why are they keeping it? Are they locking it away, or are they waiting for us to arrive so that we can wield this ultimate power to defeat the Taken? In Paradox, the Vex let us in. The Goblins outside stand down to us, and later the Vex specifically allow Praedyth to talk to us as well as show us their future in a plea for understanding. In the Whisper mission, the Oracles are not attacking and removing us from existence when that's exactly what they did when we first invaded the Vault. These Oracles want us here... This is very cool. Did i do well Myelin Games? :D

  • Don't forget though that the WotW, is similar to Touch of Malice (with the bound hammer ornament applied). Now I know this doesn't seem connected but let's think about lore. Oryx in the last verse of the Books of Sorrow, says how he will imbue a part of him into a weapon. During the Touch of Malice quest we go and get these wrappings and go through King's Fall to kill him, etc. While we don't do the same for WotW, we do hear Xol shouting at us how there is no light here and the sorts, which tells us that the worm god is still alive. If you note the bound hammer ornament it has wrappings and the sorts on the weapon (this is a point Meylin made with the release of WotW). SO, what if the Wotw was a weapon imbued with Xol's power and therefore to prevent their own demise, the Vex do their best to hide anything else of the Hive/Taken's arsenal, knowing we would use these items better than they themselves would? I see what you are saying. I do believe that the Vex are trying to save themselves and therefore, let us in ever so slightly. While we still fight the Vex, they must feel more threatened by the Taken than by us.

  • Oracles are just a defense inside The Vex Time Network. Nothing special about them but their function. Taken and Vex both serve and syphon Darkness. There’s your connection. The Eldritch are beings made of pure Darkness and pure Light. Which God do you serve? Which side are you on?

    • I don't think there are taken chests? Also I would assume the Vex want the taken out of their installation as much as we do, so they probably decided to helpe us out (and by help I mean tolerate our presence)

      • Well, it seems you’ve answered the question. Last we saw, the VoG was “Taken” (blehhhh) over by the Taken, and the Whisper being linked to the VoG may have led to the area become corrupted itself, not just by the natural Taken-spawn on the surface. If you think about it, it’s rather scary that a portal like this exists. Imagine this: Say Savathún (Which it really has yet to be confirmed Savathún, but a lot of signs are pointing towards it) is able to connect more portals to more places like this one. She could literally be working behind our backs, infecting entire planets with Blight from the inside out, and we would never know.

      • Damn, hiring that guy might be the best thing they did. They might know or predict, that the same guardians that entered the VoG are most likely the ones going down there, hence forth they give us a little “nod” confirming they have not forgotten us. Do understand that they allow us, if they will it. We die. But they need us for now, against the Taken en Hive. There is no cooperation, no alliance or even gifts for us. It’s just us being wielded by them as a weapon.

        • For the Oracles not being taken, it's likely because they are possibly entirely mechanical. It's been implied that you can't take pure machines such as Servitors and Harpies since they never had free will to begin with, so the Oracles are likely the same.

          • <The Vex in Paradox let us in. The Vex in the Whisper are dead. Hundreds of dead Vex litter the ground. The Oracles are the only thing left to guard, just doing their job. The chests could be the last vestiges of the security in that superstructure.>
