Both comics were made to tell us one thing
Fall of osiris was made to show us why osiris was exliled and warmind was made to show us ana was lesbian.
The problem is that both comics ended up with alot of filler and unnecessary bullshit (saint 14 vs osiris for example)
You dont need 30 pages to show us anas lesbian and you dont need 20 pages to show us why osiris was exiled and the comics showed that
Its much easier just to write more grimoire, 1 paragraph is all it takes to tell us anas gay and a 1 card is all it takes to tell us why osiris was exiled
Writing comics is just a waste of time and resources

wait she's lesbian? dammit.

Edited by BurnRisingAsh: 7/25/2018 2:31:08 AMHere's a question. Why is Ana a lesbian? Why did Osiris fight Saint-14 If it doesn't serve a point in the narrative than ot dosent belong in the story.

"Lore cannot be told through comic books" But shit LGBT stories can...apparently.

Comics and novels can absolutely be used to *supplement* lore but it shouldn’t be the only source.
-
As someone who worked in a comic book store for a decade I think you are ill informed about comics and graphic novels. That being said their writing team for the comics is a joke, but so is all other writers in this franchise .
-
No offense people but I find comics a complete waste of time. An old art, like records, that is obsolete. I get it, artsy fartsy types wanna have their cute little pat me on the back clique and pretend they are doing something amazing. But it's old, obsolete, boring, unpopular, and frankly mostly nobody gives a shit.
-
I will say that the comics for this game suck. But comics are an effective medium for telling a story, if they weren't they wouldn't be a popular format still.
-
You know what kills me? It absolutely can. I'm not going to even get in depth on the amazing quality of DC Comics, because I'm not reading enough of them. But Marvel Comics released a story about the multiverse collapsing in on itself and earth having to encounter other 'earths' and being forced to destroy them to prevent the death of our universe. It caused the Illuminati to reform, solidified Black Panther as a top level character, and introduced 3 new characters all whom are very popular today. That was Jonathan Hickman who wrote it too. Problem is, Bungie hired the 1 person from Marvel who didn't deserve her job and popped her in charge of ALL CREATIVE CONTENT moving forward Now they tried to bring in Mark Waid (who's a fantastic writer when he's allowed to experiment) and they have dumbass Marge Stohl actually editing his comics and dialogue. I can promise you, when Mark Waid finished the script, it was probably an amazing comic. But then they let Marge Stohl do her thing. Don't let Bungie and their glorified -blam!-ing Vanity Fair Archie Magazine ruin your perception of comics. Read Jonathan Hickmans work, Jason Aaron's work.... hell maybe even some Bendis. But NEVER read Stohl. Ever
-
I guess its cheaper for Bungie to do this but above all, its another "revenue stream".
-
Instead of renewing the contract of the overrated Nathan Fillon, they killed him off and used his budget to create liberal propaganda comics... Wtf is wrong with this company?
-
Edited by Deathonall452: 7/19/2018 9:54:47 AMSure it can. Just look at such great lore based comic books of other games such as World of Warcraft, Borderlands, Halo, God of War, The Witcher...etc. Just because the books weren't to your specific liking, doesn't mean they're bad at telling a story. Comic books can absolutely tell a story or tell lore. Besides the fact that the comics themselves tell all they need to for what they're about. You can't read the Curse of Osiris comic and expect to learn everything about destiny.

So... I'm writing a story involving my characters from destiny. Was lookign for constructive criticism or what you guys may like to see. Would definiely appreciate you all taking a peak. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/247069550/0/0 Thanks Guardians.

You know, I'd be fine with comics if they were like little side one off stories about random stuff in the Destiny Universe. Like say, one focused on a guardian learning about Escalation Protocol, or one of Ikora's folklore awesome crucible matches. Or in other words, secondary story stuff. Maybe even lore stuff. But I do not like that the campaigns of Destiny, the main storylines, the characters, the plot, all of that, is basically so bland and nonexistent in the game itself... and yet here we are writing stories in these comics. How bout we, you know... make sure the actual narrative in the game is in tip top shape before also devoting time and resources to a poorly written comic?

also holding a book in front of your mouth muffles what you are saying!

Bungie just needs a new writing team. The writers were fired from their previous jobs for a reason.

Edited by AFrickenMeerkat: 7/17/2018 1:48:56 PMWhen Bungie had Halo, there were short films, graphic novels, actual novels and short stories. Each one of them was completely awesome and added to the lore and/or filled in bits of story a fan craved. I read/watched each before ultimately leaving the franchise behind. Destiny has a very, very deep lore...and yet not a single novel, comic (PRINTED comic of quality), animated short or what have you. The live-action commercials, maybe... But I don't get why they squander such an awesome property with these little mini web comics. The itty bit that showed Ana during the 'Gap was completely badass...for one panel 😑 I feel like they could easily repeat their(financial 😆) success if they would put out EU content. A book detailing Ikora's crucible glory and her decision to leave it? I'd buy the hell out of it. Cayde's tragic story and result in becoming an exo? Shut up and take my money! A detailed comic about Zavala heroically battling mountains of ridiculous field reports? I'm sold! But not a single noteworthy bit. The comics they've put out online have been meh at best and downright disappointing at worst. Tl/dr; where is the Destiny EU?

It can, just not to your liking
-
It can’t be told in-game either
-
Can't tell if satire, or stupidity.
-
What? Lol.
-
… I actually really like the comics and alternate means of lore. Kinda want a book actually...

*comic book ni🅱️🅱️a’s exist* you’re not stories, YOURE NOTHING

Seems incredible that sweeping narratives used to be told through silent films, doesn't it?

Destiny's story peak was the taken king, it will never reach that hight again
