There are two LGBT characters in the game.
The only way we know one is gay is through two voice lines you have a chance of hearing if you stand around him long enough in a patrol zone.
The only way we know the other is gay is because of the webcomic, which 90% of people didn't read. Hell, I play this game all the time and I haven't read either. The only reason I even know Ana is gay is because people keep f*cking complaining about it.
"B-but, there aren't any openly straight characters in the game!"
So? Who the f*ck cares? Do we need affirmative action for straight people now? Jesus Christ.

Nah, I understood OP's post just fine. They're saying that the writing for the game and it's expanded universe is shitty because Bungie included LGBT characters to push an agenda onto the player base and sacrificed the story in the process. My response was that Bungie is not pushing an agenda because there are only like 6 characters in the universe who are LGBT and those characters' sexualities are rarely brought up if ever in-game and are not included in the main story. Basically they have almost no impact on the game. I've been playing these games for four years and I didn't know 4 out of those 6 characters were LGBT until today, and I'm pretty sure I didn't know 2 out of those 6 characters existed at all. I agree that the writing is shitty, but it's always been shitty, no matter what the sexuality of the character they're writing for. That's Destiny for you.

First off, we don't even know she was gay. She could be bi.

Cayde once had a GIRL he tracked with a queen of hearts... and is it just me, or does he and Ikora have a little something-something between them (past or present)? Alak-hul the darkblade got himself locked up for flexing in front of his babe. whats funny though, is that Oryx is trans.... post-op.
-
Well, for the Hive, gender is probably really different than it is for humans. Comparing gender roles is really difficult when you consider both Savathun and Xivu Arath's different aspirations initially when coming to the Deep. Savathun was hoping to be a brood mother and Xivu wanted desperately to become a knight. Xivu easily placed into her role as a Knight, something that people would probably consider to be a role for males in our society, but the Book of Sorrows doesn't even break a sweat describing her desires. My point in saying all of this is that the Hive are divergent from humans in dozens of aspects. It's not far off to say that they probably have a completely different view on sex and gender than humans do. Saying that Oryx or Aurash were trans is kind of reductive to the alien nature of the Hive. I think that the Hive probably don't see what we consider to be gender roles as gender roles at all, but as jobs. Their bodies probably shift to reflect the needs of their environment, which is why I would disagree with you saying Oryx is a post-op trans man. I can see where you're coming from in that assumption, but I do think that the Hive are just too different from humans to compare like that.
-
its not an assumption. Oryx, FATHER of Crota, the Taken KING, WAS born Aurash, Daughter of the Orsmium King, SISTER to Sathona and Xi-Ro. sexual organs are sexual organs in any species, and by the distinction of "male" and "female" being made, we can make the FAIR assumption that mechanically they are the same as we humans know them. now after that if females in Hive society act in a way that we would describe as "masculine" and so-fourth, vice-versa, etc, THEN thats something else entirely, could be like you said. but so far, functionally, female is the one that pops out the youngin' while males contribute genetic material, and Oryx is known as the FATHER of Crota. ergo, Oryx is a post-op transsexual (but in this case, the nature of that "operation" is unknown, but obviously different to the crude re-sculpting of flesh that we humans practice, as Oryx was able to produce offspring, therefore indicating fully functional sexual organs. unless of course, theres something that wasnt mentioned.)

We still don't know exactly how Hive reproduction works, and just because we've translated pronouns into our own language to fit doesn't mean that there's not meaning lost in translation. I still think referring to Oryx as post-op just doesn't really fit. I can understand why you'd categorize it like that but it just doesn't really jive with being trans. Also, being dysphoric is something pretty important to being trans and seeing as Oryx wrote the damn Book of Sorrows there'd probably be something in there about it if that were the case. Really boils down to semantics because I'm petty.
-
yes, you are being VERY semantic indeed. "We still don't know exactly how Hive reproduction works" never mind the many references to hive wizards being brood MOTHERS, whom explicitly SPAWN new hive. thats just translation semantics.
-
I don't think anyone is complaining that there are too many LGBT characters. I'm pretty sure the complaint is that there are too many badly written LGBT characters
Roughly 50% of your estimated 2 characters, If my calculations are correct
Thank you!

Four actually, Wei ning and eriana-4 were an item together from what a lore tab of an exotic ship called eriana's vengeance had to say.
-
5 cause apparently Chioma (Maya Sundaresh's love interest) was same sex but again that's something you had to dig to find out about.
-
I guess , technically that's 6 if you include the both of them, I just never saw anything that suggested they had intimate or romantic relationship, most that I recall just pretained to their work and friendship as colleagues.

Edited by Griff: 7/13/2018 5:13:14 AMGhost Fragement: Vex 5
My love. I’ve opened this log as an apology. As a scientist, I believe in record-keeping. I believe in protocols, peer review, and ethical conduct. I believe in the importance of disbelief — you know: let’s run that one more time. What I’m doing here in Lhasa isn’t science. It’s unethical, secret, and shameful. And after what happened in Ishtar, dearest Chioma, I know you’d be furious with me for getting involved. Forty years isn’t far enough to forget a day like that. But I believe it’s important. The least I can do is keep a few notes for you.
They're supposedly married but I dunno where it expressly states it only that they are together.

4 out of tens if not hundreds. My god! They're taking over!
-
Yeah, 5% of people are openly gay. If people are angry about the percentage in-game being somewhat reflective of reality, they're really just angry with reality.
-
Not sure what you are on about , just stating the exact number stated was inaccurate.

Whoops! Friendly fire!
