So we all know that destiny has references to many historical studies (e.g. Greek mythology, Roman culture etc).
And one of them is Ancient Egyptian culture.
So here’s a list of compiled items and references to them:
Khepri: (a solar deity, he was immortalised as a dung/scarab beetle. Egyptians did this as beetles move balls of dung along, and this khepri was seen to move the sun along the sky).
- Khepri’s sting - scarab beetle on the arm. Representing the image of khepri. Just a name drop.
- Khepri’s horn - the perk has a ball of fire burst in a straight line, like the sun across the sky. Also the text says :”I pushed the sun, I can push you, too.” A clear reference to the solar god.
Osiris: (god of death and resurrection who rules the underworld and enlivens vegetation, the sun god, and deceased souls)
- Osiris the guardian - a quick comparison of Osiris the guardian to the god show some close similarities: ‘He was classically depicted as a green-skinned deity with a pharaoh's beard, partially mummy-wrapped at the legs, wearing a distinctive crown with two large ostrich feathers at either side.’ Granted our Osiris resembles more of Ra but Osiris’s elegant use of solar light and the gods connection to the sun seem very relevant.
- The trials of Osiris - the god Osiris is considered ‘the judge of the dead’. The judge part being in reference to lines spoken by Vance in D1, and the dead being us.
Khonsu: (ancient god of the moon, his name means traveler, which may relate to the nightly travel of the moon across the sky. Khonsu was instrumental in the creation of new life and all living creatures)
- the traveler - the traveler was originally referred to as moon x and was responsible for bringing a lot of new life into sol. (Thanks aboodQ70)
I now want to look at the trials of Osiris armour prices and compare their ascetic to the Egyptian pantheon:
- The lion vigil armour set - this is a reference to either Maashes the lion god, Bast the goddess represented as a cat or lion or Menhit a lioness goddess.
- The scarab vigil armour set - this is another possible reference to Khepri the sun god.
- The cobra’s vigil armour set - this is a reference to a cobra goddess Wadjet.
- The Titan exile set - is a reference to Horus, whose usually shown as a falcon and given the bird and Titan helms hooked beak shows some ascetic connection.
- The warlock exile set - is a clear reference to Anubis, god of the afterlife. He is depicted as having a canine like head, similar to that depicted on the warlock helm.
- The hunter exile set - now this one could be a varied reference. The bandaging could be referring to mummification or Osiris. But I believe it is in reference to the eyes of Ra. A group of Egyptian goddesses including Hathor, Sekhmet, Bastet, Wadjet, and Mut, as shown by the helm.
Granted I’m bound to have missed bits of the destiny universe that show these types of references. It’s just a nice little thing to point out.
Edit: I intend to do multiple ones of these for different cultures.
