Critique about Faction rallies: Why I dislike them and what could be done to improve them.
Let me start by saying this is a rant. It shows me pissed off because that's what I am. I am currently (as I'm writing this) level 25 in FWC, and maxed NM at 50 last faction rally. With that said, let's begin:
I hate Destiny 2's faction rally system. I hate the fact that faction rallies became an event on itself when in D1 it was something you worked your way up slowly in the background of other things, and, instead of making new weekly events per month (hey, remember SRL?, that would have been a good idea to make as a weekly event) they just putted factions as an event on itself.
First, it makes you rush the whole week only to get to level 50 just for the catalyst, which I think should be halfway that for people without the time or the will to grind for hours. I have the time to do so in this event, but last faction rally I barely reached level 50 just hours before the weekly reset, and I don't know if I'll be able to reach level 50 in the next rally.
Second, screw pledging to only one faction per account once per rally. It was the worst decision, and don't come here with the "your choice now matters" bullshit, because not only it ruined roleplaying for me (since I had one character per faction, depicting it's ideologies, hence "roleplaying"), but also restrained me to just be loyal to that one faction for the whole event, and prevented me to grind for another faction in advance. As extra, you can continue where you left off in the previous faction rally, but that just screws you up if you where trying to get all 3 catalyst before Forsaken.
Lastly, the "this faction wins so you can pick the weapon up for 1k if you pledged to it of suck it for 50k and have it anyway" thing. They could just gave it for 1k if that faction won and 50k if the faction didn't, but guess it's too expensive creating new weapon reskins instead of offering the same ones for 3 months. They even could offer different perks for existint faction weapons, kinda like randomization but with handpicked skills, like explosive rounds for a scout that had another perk and such.
As an extra thought they could fit a last faction rally just before Forsaken for those who lost the chance to pick up a catalyst, and make it so you can switch freely to pick up all 3 if you can stand the grind.

The only thing you could do with them was "raise" your Rank for... no reason, actually? Now it became an active Event that spurs you to partecipate and play the game to get something that has a value 'cos it is LIMITED. How could this be negative? We all agree that there are some elements of the Rallies that have to be improved, but with this New System Faction Rallies can FINALLY became something. Again, if people don't have "time" or "will" to get what they want, they simply don't get it. That's it. There is nothing weird or wrong with this, it works in the same way in many other games and it's fine. I don't see why here, on Destiny, it should be different. You can't partecipate at the Rally 'cos you have to work that week? You are unlucky, but that's it. Why your personal problem should somehow became a problem to everyone? Anyway, I do think that about the Catalysts Bungie should have do something better like put all 3 Catalysts avaialable to each Faction. In this way, a Player could choose the Faction he prefers and reached Rank 50 pick ONLY ONE CATALYST he wanted to take. About the fact that now you can pick only one Faction for Account, this is probably the best thing about this New System, because, YES, now your choice MATTERS for real and makes the Rallies something with a sense. This "roleplay thing" it's just bulls***, imho. Destiny 2 gives zero incentives about Factions, and even less references about them, how could you say that your Exo Hunter fits better in FWC and not in NM? It is just a fantasy without any base... should a fantasy be a good reason to stop making the Event better giving new mechanics? I don't think so. I can understand people that don't like mechanics like the Renown or the fact the distribution of Tokens among the Activities right now it's pretty unbalanced, but this new system is muuuuch better that any one else we had so far. I really hope to see Bungie keep it and improve it. P.s: I hope you don't see my reply as something "negative". I do understand your point of view, even if I don't share it =/

1 Replyyour first point contradicts with your second point. in the first u said u hardly had enough time to grind to rank 50 and in ur second, u said u want to be able to pledge to all 3 like before... if u hardly had enough time to do 1 faction, why do u need all 3. as for the role playing bit. u have three characters dedicated for each faction. ok, simple... grind the faction rally with your corresponding dedicated character.

would like to see ghost/ship/sparrow available to purchase with tokens...84 Dead Orbit engrams this season and still no Distant Pulsar ship for my titan. but i get a Telesto every other day. that is NOT how RNG should work.

I agree with most of this. A 4th faction rally (last chance) in season 3 would be great. Couple of other points. The separation of the ornaments sets into 9 sets instead of 3 makes it much harder to get them all. Especially if you don't have the armor, as you have to rely on RNG to get the armor, THEN grind the bounties for the ornaments.

1 ReplyI got to rank 50 in two days. Don’t judge me. Also bungie said that the faction rally catalysts will be available some other way besides hitting rank 50. I guess hitting rank 50 is a way to get them way earlier.

2 RepliesTo me, Faction Rallies could have been a great improvement over the Destiny 1 system. Because it [i]sounds[/i] like Bungie were going to make the choice really matter. Instead, it's another Destiny 2 couldhavebeen. Imagine this: You go to the Tower and it loads a cutscene. An unknown guardian kidnaps you, and takes you down to a cell. Here, there are FWC flags hanging everywhere. He demands that you join the faction, and you can either hold the interact button to comply, or turn to the right, pick up a weapon, shoot him and join the faction you actually want to join. Then, you walk out of the cell. You do whatever you were going to do in the Tower, and you load up an EDZ patrol. When you enter a new area, a siren goes off. The game loads up exclusively FWC guardians, and they're all alerted to your presence. Now you have a pvp event in an open world. And your faction choice matters both to your gameplay, and everyone else's. Hell, you could even make it pve and have AI enemy guardians piloting giant mechs and tanks. But instead you're doing the same thing you were doing before the event, to get tokens, that reward you with weapons almost exactly the same as every other weapon.

1 ReplyI wish you could just purchase the armor (even if you gotta be a certain rank first) I am just on the crack on rank 45 in FWC and I've yet to get the chest piece or the helm. Like.. I'd like to try and get these ornaments, but half of em are locked behind having the "full set" as a prereq. :/ If I get this Catalyst before I get a full set or armor.. On a side note, I have gotten the class item 11 times.

5 RepliesThey said catalaysts will be available after forsaken anyway. Also, I don't think it should be less than 50. I want my hard work rewarded even if it is a grind. Putting it less makes it feel less exclusive that I have the catalyst and those who didn't put in the time got it too. I'm fine pledging to one faction. Pledging to all was just a way to save on glimmer in the end. If you aren't constantly maxed glimmer...what are you spending it on? The only issue I have is that you are screwed if you are a crucible player. You get so few tokens in comparison. Honestly, they should increase your tokens drop with your win streak. That way there is a benefit to play pvp during rally.

1 ReplyI am fine with the rally as it is more or less. Really I wish you remained able to support factions beyond just the event. I like unique rewards for the rally itself but why cant we interact with them like D1. Personally though I disagree with the first point about catalysts, at least to a degree. I want the catalysts to be a bit more but it is a good start. I want the grind to be more, same with any other high end gear. I hate having things handed out, I prefer to earn what I have. To me it is simple, don’t want to grind? No worries, but you don’t get the widget. Having things be easy/fast to get diminishes the value in my eyes and people should only be rewarded for effort put forth. But that is just me.

1 ReplyThe way I see it; the factions from d1 have been replaced by planetary vendors, and factions brought in to d2 as a more iron banner type event... to create a bit more excitement when it comes around; no problem with that! However, the event itself could do with some love! Firstly, I do not see the point in faction gear... it's all stuff originally in the game, tweaked slightly to be more 'factiony'. Why not just have ornaments only; with updates season 1, 2 etc... but (and this can work for all ornaments) have them available to any piece of gear!!! E.g. having Phoenix strife gear with FWC aesthetics!! We can keep the progression system, and retain event exclusive weapons! Secondly, the rng/loot pool is (currently) not good enough; all the gear needs to be in the loot pool (not split over events), and have a better chance to drop new gear!

why the f we do not get a light sense item is bs , as hell give a faction token get are one light weapon sense for the week at least or a day , as rest it all now suck no way toggle on or off , like 2009 guild wars.

Totally agree - I hate the rally for regular grinding! It forces me to rush and grind the most tedious PE/Titan LS over and over to optimize my token production THAT IS SO FRICKING BORING!!! Give us 3 factions, open all the time, make the grind something like 100 rank for an exotic faction themed armor or weapon ornament. Still hold the rallies as a monthly event, but have faction fight faction in crucible! These rallies dont mean shit, and the weapons are laughable. Why do the losers get anything anyways - and who cares about glimmer, im capped most of the time so 50k is worthless.

6 RepliesI had a lot of free time the last Rally. Actually turned in 73 packages with DO. I'm at 44 with New Monarchy with considerably less days to devote to the grind but more time in each day. I'm stopping the grind at 50 regardless of which ornaments are complete. My Hunter is done, that's my main, that's all I care about. I will have the time to grind out 50 levels with FWC next Rally, however I won't be doing so unless it ends up being several weeks from now. The grind is just too boring and monotonous. They had a good thing going with Factions in D1, but I think they killed the purpose when they trashed weapon randomization. What I'm hoping, is that this very low point in the game (for me anyway) is Bungie crawling through the mud to September when randomization allows for something better.
