Palpatine Zavala is the agent of The Darkness. He has been undermining our attempts to restore the light from day one, and sending gaurdians to certain death. I, nameless voiceless guardian, can take it no longer. The day of reckoning has arrived.
#1: Rasputin, the single most powerful achievement of humanity, and our greatest hope in surviving this fight; yet Commander Zavala has fought our efforts to recommission the Warmind at every turn. Suspicious? He even darted away from his responsibilities in the City to quietly murder Ana Bray in her mission to reach Rasputin. Lucky for Ana, we found her first.
#2: Zavala uses his 'strikes' to systematically kill guardians. Savuthun's song: his Butch protege Sloan repeatedly sends fireteams down in small groups, watching as one by one they are---wait for it---consumed by Darkness. And don't let Failsafe&Failsafe fool you either: you really think we got radio disconnected from Cayde-6 and Ikora by "accident"? Zavala had his AI tool cut us off, to die at the hands of Thaviks, while he pontificates in the background about how he'll 'save us himself'. Sounds fishy, right? Lucky for us, everyman's hero Cayde can crack a code. Which leads us to...
#3: ZAVALA KILLED CAYDE-6!!! BOOOOOOOM! Am I right?!?! Cayde is free-spirited; loyal to us guardians, not the Vanguard; routinely disobeys Zavala; and come on: we all know Cayde-6 is THE good guy. He's got our backs in the wilds.
When the red legion swept the city(where were you, "Commander" Zavala?) Eris Morn, with better knowledge of the Darkness than anyone outside of Zavala's conspiracy, mysteriously disapears. She was Cayde's frenemy. Zavala had her killed. Ikora is abandoned on Io(alone). Cayde herocially takes off to kill Gaul, but ends up prisoner of **cough** the Vex(aka---Failsafe). And old Zavala has an army & his right hand lieutenant, Sloan. And a good place to sacrifice guardians to Savathun.
But we rescue Cayde. Find Ikora. Find our light again. Zavala has to play along. He tries to insult Hawthorn into running away from the fight; he nearly gets Ikora killed in the battle to retake the city; and he almost succeeds in killing Cayde that night (he takes an arm off, anyway).
We win the battle, Zavala's nemesis the Traveller wakes up, he lies low. Consolidates power, and decides HE gets to hand out TWO engrams a week, not one. When Osiris resurfaces, Zavala keeps his mouth shut: he's working on his fool-proof plan. When Ana returns, he takes off to kill her and stop Rasputin from turning back on, but we foil him. So he calls in a favor from an old Awoken friend. Prince Uldren...
They stage a prison break in the Reef. Of course Cayde-6 will launch his rocketship to clean that mess up, and we'll go with him. It's a 2-for-1 special. We find Uldren, he acts all friendly, and the minute we all split up, my man Cayde-6 is outnumbered, out-gunned, and out-armed. Betrayed. Killed with his own gun(cue borimir's death scene music from fellowship of the ring). But, as always, Commander Zavala Palpatine, you underestimate me. I survive. I now know your secret: Cayde's death has been a plan long in the making, your Darkness has awoken and is headed towards Earth, and you think you're safe atop your strong tower. But I'm coming for you. You'll look down the barrel of my trusty Hard Light, and then I'll Nova bomb you straight into the Void from whence you came.
P.S. the only other explanation is that D2 is such a failed game that bungie had to kill it's most polular character in a desperate attempt to arouse some passion in it's waning playerbase. But come on: a glowing-blue-skinned dude that shaves his head and puts on lipstick??? How is he not the bad guy.
#edit
Fun to see this conspiracy theory taking off. I almost went with a Julius Ceasar/Messiah complex, on how only Zavala with consolidated power could save humanity. But I went with the darker tone. And yes everyone, this is only a joke. (Or is it?)
-
if you played Destiny 1 then you would know that Zavala is against Rasputin, because he is scared of him. He sent multiple fireteams to rasputins bunker on Earth, but he killed them all. No wonder.
-
Before D2 come out Bungie gave us a proper cinematic showing him fighting and being revived by his ghost. This is enough for me to think other wise tbh.
-
You know, it's really bad that you think that. Zavala is a hero who's defended the City tooth and nail for presumably decades. These little threads are ultimately just that, little threads. They don't link up in a special way... it's pitiful. You have to realize that whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.
takes off to kill Gaul,
You spelt Gary wrong.

Prince Uldren = Zavala with a wig

Its treason then

Edited by fergul0: 6/30/2018 12:23:46 PMAnd Zavalla’s master is
MASTER RAHOOL
-
Coincidence? I THINK NOT!
-
That's not how you spell Sweeper-bot
-
Bungie, Ditch Forsaken, and give us this as the story!
-
Everyone except Zavala seemingly forgot that Rasputin is a murderous AI who caused the deaths of hundreds... seriously, is Ana off her rockers? You don't trust massive intelligent Russian War AI's who have a track record of murder.
-
But in the first mission Iof d2, we see zavala use a bubble shield, meaning he has light from the traveler. If the traveler can sense whos good and bad, wouldn't that mean he wouldn't have been born in the light in the first place?
-
Cayde-6 isn’t dead because his gun didn’t trigger the firefly explosion.
-
Zavala has just been acting weird because he spent all his glimmer on head buffer and now he has to borrow glimmer from Shaxx. Have you ever tried to borrow glimmer from Shaxx? He is not nice about it.
-
Given the quality we've seen from the story leads up to this point, it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out Zavala was really a vex t-800... If it wasn't clear from my comment, this games story sucks...

I knew it

Cayde has been stocking the prison of elders with criminals uldren uses a fallen house im guessing the Kings rises up becomes a kell of Kells (rip skolas dream) and they revolt as cayde drops another prisoner off. Zavala is too old fashioned and doesn’t like change he’s old and set in his ways that’s why he didn’t like the idea of working with Rasputin if anyone’s a secret traitor it’s eris bitch let her whole fireteam die and is somehow surviving without her ghost because hive magic?? We need to build a wall guardians and keep these damn hive monstrosities out and wait a minute....
-
I'm actually ok with this.
-
Uldren kneels, disarmed as the Guardian holds The Last Word and recently recovered Ace of Spades both pointed at Uldren, at this point Zavala interjects. "Good Guardian, Good. Kill him" "But Commander, he must live and face a fair trial! It's not the Guardian way!" "Do it." *Blam!*

taking these point in order 1. Rasputin killed the Iron Lords. Pretty easy to mistrust him after that. 2. Guardians can't die (unless plots require it and so ghosts mysteriously become destructable and killable at will). 3. Cayde probably (even now while dead and stuck in the black garden) is wondering when his ghost lost it's ability to shield itself, go into orb mode and cloak. As his dead ghost hovers beside him in the never never. Cayde's probably shouting "How the...what the...but you're....awwww come on I was having a day out with my favorite Guardian!"
-
Omg IT’S TRUE.

That pesky Vuvuzela

*ignores post* You catch zavala sneaking behind cayde in the showers again? Man I told them not to make the vanguard barracks like prisons. Caydes clumsy so he drops his treasures in the showers. Zavala loves things to scratch his itch and a machine makes no difference to him.

The salt coming from hunters against titans is so toxic. Good grief.
