To many times have i heard that destiny has no lore and its sucks. Funny enough its the opposite. Destiny and its universe has amazing lore all over the place and if your a new player or an old one who doesnt know what going on then go read it.
The ishtar collective is a great site with all the lore in the destiny universe put into one play so go read it, start on any subject just go read it.

Edit 1: ive been a part of the destiny community since destiny beta so trust me when in say i know the problems with lore. That's not what this post was about though. This post was about giving those who aren't aware an avenue to read it if they so choose.
Yes it should be in game, in fact its going to be in september but till then we make due with that we have and ishtar collective and channels like MyNameIsByf are great to catch up on it.
* i have a report of the link not working so if anyone else is having problems let me know, ive replaced it ones already but if it still isnt working then theres a commenter below who has post the link also.

I think the lore should be in cutscenes. Imagine watching a movie then the actor stops, looks at the camera and says. "I was going to say something and do stuff but you can just go to this website and read about it!" It's dumb. I admit I did start reading the grimoire cards but then the app got updated and it got removed then D2 came out and I play the game. Now I go on the forums to try and find posts about lore and watch the lore masters on YouTube. I might go to that ishtar or whatever website some day but right now it's Eat Play Destiny 2 Eat Sleep
-
I love the grimoire and Ishtar collective. They should just bring The grimoire back. It was great collecting the cards and reading all the mystery’s of the grand story
-
Its non canon
-
Why would people want to read during a video game? If you want to read go read a book. They should just build the lore into the actual game like normal people would.
-
Says destiny has great lore. Links an off-site. What?
-
Edited by Swiftlock: 6/17/2018 12:55:56 PMYou misunderstand the problem. It's not that the Destiny series has no lore. It's that the games themselves do a horrible job with the lore. No in-game codex/library. No cutscenes or playable sequences where you re-live cool lore-related events. No way to read the grimoire in the game itself. You have to visit an external website. Not to mention that D2 just outright disregards many important things that happened in D1. It's bad storytelling no matter how you slice it.
-
I'll read it when it's in game as it should have been.
-
the ishtar collective??? really? you're all "I ❤ Grimiore" ? if Destiny has great lore, how about Bungie actually ads it in-game. just like LFG, if I have to go outside the game to play said game ....I probably won't
-
D1 had good lore, but that's just folklore now so :/
-
I bought a video game, if I wanted a book I would have fired up my kindle.
-
Edited by Advenence: 6/15/2018 2:18:03 PMI shouldn't have to read something that should be told to me by playing the game.
-
Ghost stories podcast and My name is Byf on Youtube is a good resource for lore as well.
-
Lets not forget they retconned the lore and havent been transparent about what parts
-
The link doesn't work.
-
they -blam!-ed over all the lore in the game. What happened to Sunsingers?
-
They try to go the dark souls route with their lore by making it sporadic and vague. Didn't really work well since unlike dark souls you saw little to no influence of the lore in-game.
-
You know who really needs to read the lore? Bungie.
-
Edited by Zioting: 6/15/2018 4:49:44 PMIf I'm gonna read, I'm buying a book

Thanks for sharing this 😁👍

There’s a lot of effort that was put into building all of that. Shame it was delivered so poorly with the game. All of this world building, and casual players barely even hear a word of it. Heck. I would practically kill for a brief mention of some character, followed by a “you can check it out later on your data pad (cell phone with the destiny app, or you know, in game feature), when we aren’t being shot at” line. That would be interactive. Engaging. Immersive. Would give me a reason to care about half the stuff that goes on.

Destiny does have a vast amount of lore content. That has never been an issue. The issues of availability and contradiction are the problem. In D1, the only way to get to the lore was via the app or other third party websites. No way to get to it in game. Now they have it in game, but it’s spread throughout different pieces of gear. There are even pieces of gear you can’t get anymore from the eververse that had lore tabs. On top of that, there is the issue now of the lore contradicting itself. New lore and web comics that go against what was told throughout D1 and then saying it was just folklore. That’s a bunch of garbage. They are saying, however, that there will be in-game lore in September. My hope is that now we will finally get an inventory tab with all the lore in it like other games like Mass Effect. This way we can read and explore it anytime we want without having to go to a third party site or dig out our gear from the vault. It’s something the people have been asking for since D1, and it’s something I hope they finally bring to fruition.

Edited by KingHarrydrone3: 6/15/2018 3:13:54 PMIt does te sad Bungie doesn’t put it in the game and have their narrative team put it into the story
-
Yet the ingame story is terrible, gg bungie.

Edited by NobodyJustBrad: 6/15/2018 10:48:05 AMHuh... If only there were an extremely convenient way to access Destiny's lore for those who don't, or can't, take the time they do get on their console to read everything instead of actually playing, so you could take in the lore to any extent you wanted to at any time, anywhere. Maybe they could make it part if the game's website and app and tie it in to some sort of score that lets you know how much of it you have unlocked. If only... 🤔🤔🤔
