This is namely a problem for two large offenders, the Graviton Lance and the Polaris Lance. In both cases, obtaining the masterworks involve killing a specific number of enemies using the Exotic perks of these weapons. However, it seems that you did not clarify enough about what exactly triggers the progression.
For example, the Polaris Lance's secondary masterwork objective is to kill 50 enemies with the "Perfect Fifth" kill. What it doesn't specify is that the burn needs to finish them, not the actual explosion. The Graviton Lance also shares this problem in the fact that the void seekers from the Cosmology perk need to kill their target and not the bloom detonation from regular kills.
This isn't meant to be a rant or anything. It's perfectly fine to use those requirements to progress the objectives, but I'm just asking if you could clarify these objectives better so as to not confuse more people down the road.
As a small sidenote, would it also be possible to reduce the amount of required Cosmology kills for the Graviton Lance masterwork to be reduced to 300? 500 is a bit overkill on the grinding especially if we already have to slay 500 enemies for just the first objective. Just my personal grain of salt there.

Bungie and ambiguity are synonymous.
