Fallen Guardian Memorial

Hello all forum members and Bungie. Today one of our beloved clan members passed away. I won't go into detail, but we will all miss him. We had an idea for a clan feature to show off a memorial of all "Fallen Guardians" for our loved clan members and friends who have passed on. All it would show is their play time and longest played character along with birth and death year. Possibly a picture of their character as well. We all want to remember those we have truly lost. We believe that this is the perfect way. Feel free to share your story of a Fallen Guardian. Let Bungie know if you like this idea. We will all miss ya, Ajax. Rest in peace buddy.

I know how it feels to lose a good friend as I lost one of my best friends to Cancer. He was a fellow Destiny player like me and if it had not been for him I would never have got into Destiny in the first place. I would really like for Bungie to create an enduring monument to all fallen Guardians within the game. Just something to acknowledge those who loved the game and are no longer with us.

We had this happen in D1. To commemorate his passing, we all loaded into Crotas End and shot the oversoul and then wiped. When we respawned we killed Crota we will not succumb to the darkness, we will persevere

  • "Guardians... today is a very sad day, for the news I'm about to say is heartbreaking," Zavala said with a low voice. "This Guardian saved us more times than I can count. From conquering the Black Garden to Slaying Ghaul to stop the destruction of the light. Ajax refused to give up." Ajax. Rest in peace, my fellow Guardian.

I understand, as we in offtopic have lost a fellow comrade. His name was God and he died of cancer recently. A guy actually made a Gofundme for Cancer research afterwards. May they both rest in peace.

    • As the sun starts dipping behind the Mountains like a solar eclipse, the sky erupts into a soft red, orange, purple hue. The Tower is busy with the bustle of Guardians and Civilians. In the distance, a soft boom echo’s the familiar sound of a Guardian ship dropping in from orbit. A Valkyrie-O5X comes into view. This ship does not follow the same flight pattern as the other ships approaching The Tower. People and Guardians alike look up and watch as the Valkyrie increases speed and engages a combat drop maneuver. The scream of the engines and external dampeners engaging is deafening as the Valkyrie slows from sonic, to sub sonic. Those in the area can see the com-trails spooling from the tips of the wings and the crafts nose. The Valkyrie banks sharply into a deep dive pulling up at the last moment and threads the needle as it flies beneath the concreate walkway, coming to a stop as it hovers within the main courtyard in a cloud of dust and leaves. There is a loud crackling hiss between the belly of the Valkyrie and the ground as a Warlock Guardian shimmers into view, floating slightly as his body composes into view. Within a second, the Warlock gracefully drops to the ground as the Valkyrie banks and its engines scream as it accelerates up into the sky leaving a cloud of dust in its wake. A loud boom can be heard in the distance. Those in The Tower can see that this Guardian is a seasoned Warlock. He holds out his hand as his Ghost materializes into view. The Warlock’s Ghost is encased in a Frontier Shell that shifts and moves. The Warlock nods to his Ghost. It darts around scanning the ground and quickly moves around the courtyard, while the Warlock follows behind. The Ghost darts back to the main area and scans one of the walls beneath the walkway, and marks a spot. “Here…” it says. The Warlock’s body erupts in flame as he casts Solar Grenades into the spot. Rock and Metal can be seen melting together. The Warlock keeps casting Solar Grenades into the spot and throws one more just as the flames that engulfed his body fade. Breathing heavily as steam rises from the Warlock’s armor, the Warlock waits until the molten rock and metal cools enough and he reaches behind his back as his armor pushes a Gjallarhorn up into his hand. He then takes the Gjallarhorn and pushes it into the cooling rock and metal, he reaches to his back waist as his armor pushes a plaque into his hand; and the Warlock does the same with the plaque as he did with the Gjallarhorn, offsetting it slightly. Slowly the rock and metal cools around the Gjallarhorn and plaque encasing parts of them in a makeshift memorial. The Warlock kneels to one knee with his arm resting on his knee, he slowly bows his head and remains in that position for a long time, as his Ghost hovers over his right shoulder and tilts forward slightly. After some time, the Warlock slowly rises and takes a step back. He opens his hand and his Ghost hovers over it and within a few moments the Ghost and the Warlock shimmer from view. A gust of wind blows the leaves and dust around where the Warlock once stood. As the fading sun moves from behind a Mountain range a beam of light hits the plaque causing it to illuminate with a warm golden glow. The group of onlookers who gathered in front of the makeshift memorial read the words on the plaque. “In Memory of the fallen Clan Mate of IML, Ajax who has fallen IRL. Know that your family IRL Loves you, your Creator Loves you, I Love you. A part of you will live on within our hearts and memories. Your Family and my Pack will forever remember you and your Light. May your Light continue to be our beacon and guide us from the darkness. You will be missed, but never forgotten. Guardian Down….”

      • Words can’t express the impact Ajax had in the clan. From inception, he expressed a kindness that to all members that was beyond exceptional. For me personally, I developed a friendship with him that I will cherish for life. Ajax had the kind of grace and character I can only aspire to emulate. I hope Bungie takes notice and will setup some type of memorial for all the guardians we have lost to honor their memory.

      • Ajax, you were initially another recruit to fill out ranks. I responded to you call for a clan and after an evening or running strikes you came into our clan. It didn’t take long for you to fit in. Your humor in the raids (of which you were convinced you would never be able to run); your insistence that you messed up and caused a wipe (when it was most likely me) and you always positive outlook made this game a joy. I enjoyed nights when we would just run stiles and talk about life. You were a friend and will be missed. I am honored to know you as well as I did in our short time together. While this game may be broken; these connections are why I keep coming back. You were on in a million. And I hope to be half the person you were. Goodbye.

      • He was a stand up Guardian and damn good man. I hope Bungie will consider placing a memorial for our fallen brethren.

        • My condolences to you and your clan mate. It's hard losing a friend like that. I've been there. My best friend and I played tons of Halo 3 and Reach years ago and was super stoked when Destiny dropped. We played it all the time. He really only played as a Gunslinger, not even making a 2nd or 3rd character. He was hard headed like that but we still had tons of fun. There would even be days where he would just come over to my house just to take turns in Iron Banner on my account because I had Red Death and he didn't. About a month after HoW dropping, he was in a fatal car accident. Completely flipped my world upside down. I had never lost somebody so close to me and it was really hard to cope with. I damn near quit my job because I work with car accidents for a living. Every time I play Destiny now I do it to honor him and our memories together. I had posted about him before shortly after RoI dropped but I am glad to share his memory again. A memorial for fallen guardians would be amazing. Great suggestion.

          • Here's the sad thing: doing this would be so easy. Just a terminal in the social spaces, with a tabbed page by first letter. Find the name you want, and it loads a page with the last character model for each class, with armor and shaders, stats, and a list of accomplishments It's basically a very simple UI element on top of a very basic database query. I could literally write that in an hour or two with SQL and C#. The more complicated bit is in handling the submissions and managing that, but I don't think that would be that difficult. Given the ease with which this could likely be done, I would really like to see something happen with this idea.

          • Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend; from some of the other comments here he sounds like he was a really great guy. Great Idea on the memorial, but I would like to think the community could maybe emulate the physical memorial in Iceland dedicated for EVE online players: https://www.engadget.com/2014/05/01/is-your-name-written-on-this-giant-eve-statue-in-iceland/ Would be nice to commemorate our fellow fallen guardians; their names preserved for prosperity, for past, present and future guardians to see.

          • When one reads something like this, all other forum posts seem foolish. I wish you, yours, and his my condolences. May a way to acknowledge those Guardians who's light is lost be erected for those who remain and remember. Until then, never forget. Fight in his name and for his memory.
