When performing the summoning ritual public event on Titan you are tasked with interrupting a Hive ritual. The nature of the ritual is unclear however. It is likely tied to Savathun coming to our system or perhaps Quria, but more on that later.
From the lore of D1 and the Book of Sorrows we understand the concept of the oversoul, ascendant throne spaces and the ascendant realm in general. Ir Anuk and Ir Halalk, daughters of Oryx and sisters of Crota, created the oversoul. Crota attempted also, and the War Priest it seems had his own version in the Occulus. If Crota and Alak Hul were raised as brothers (which is more than possible), then it is extremely likely that Alak Hul has his own ascendant space to reside in upon death, or attempted to learn the ways of crafting an oversoul to separate the death from the dying. Keep all of this in mind.
There are three significnt Hive in the public event on Titan. The Abyssal Wizard, the Abyssal Knight, and the servant of Savathun. Think back to the original Sunless Cell strike in D1. Oryx is dead and a power vacuum has been created. Malok, son of Savathun, and Alak Hul adopted son of Oryx, both try respectively to claim the throne. We kill Alak Hul and Eris Morn says the following:
"May his dark soul go screaming into the pit between the stars."
This "pit" can, for all intents and purposes, be referred to as an/the abyss. The pit between stars is none other than the ascendant realm which Toland spoke of.
When speaking to Ir Yut the Death Singer, Tolan lost his physical body and was allowed entry into the perpetually rotting ascendant rralm of the Hive. Toland referred to this process as being "detached from my source." He said the following about drifting through the Hive nether realm:
"This is the shape and the point of the tooth: nothing has ever lived that will not die.
Now I fly between green-black suns in the labyrinth beyond Crota’s god-star. This is the Overworld, the Sea of Screams, where the throne-universes of the great Hive fester in eternal majesty. I move among them. I map the shapes and connections of this world."
Alak Hul did not die a true death. He returned to his nether region to recover his strength and develop a new plan.
There is no denying that the first and main giant Knight in that event is Alak Hul. Same helmet, axe, and glowing bulbous head. My theory is that when we killed him he did go screaming back to the nether world...and has now come to our world through this ritual. He is the Abyssal Champion/Knight. The wizard is unknown. The other Knight is obviously a servant of Savathun. He could be a superior to Alak Hul..one who is to keep the Darkblade in check last he try to betray Savathun as he did Oryx. Either way this is huge in my eyes. We have a returning ascendant champion from D1 in D2 who fits according to the lore. If Savathun has claimed the mantle of Oryx, would not Alak Hul be present to conspire?

Edit: I'm well aware that the Alak Hul sprite was just recycled. I just thought it interesting that an attempt to provide quickly thrown in content aligns perfectly with the games lore....lore which is being retconned and butchered as we progress through the story.

The wizard (goddamnit why can’t they just be called witches?!) could be Omigul, or Ir Yut. Then again that is a stretch :/
