Title.
Mine would be a small hammer. The reason I say small is that they are more lightweight, yet still a damn hammer. Because realistically guns, if you're not part of the military or something or can make bullets - guns would not be a great choice. Let's just assume there are over a billion zombies,(if not billions) you're not going to have millions of bullets laying around. Definitely not billions lmao. And the military can only do so much.

You have to keep in mind that this is not a video game or movie. Logic is an actual thing. Although we most likely won't have a virus like this ever, it's quite intriguing to imagine. So answer this with a logical answer. Let's pretend this is real. What would you really use as a weapon? And how would you survive if the military was no more?

Sidenote: Random encounters with other human beings would most likely result in something not intended. Most likely.(guess you can just call most people bandits)
Here's exactly what I would do: Get lightweight body armor if I can find it. Lightweight, yet powerful equipment to smash into zombie skulls. Most likely take a stealth approach to most situations. If I can, gather a small team of people for supply runs. And hopefully, start a small community somewhere isolated from the zombies. Slowly rebuilding what we lost. Lay down simple rules: No stealing supplies, everyone gets an equal share daily. No violence, we have enough of that out there. Killing another will result in your own execution. If you go out for runs write down what time you left and why you're leaving.(stuff like this)

Forget the fact that zombies can't heal and just walking around and brushing against stuff would erode then pretty quickly. (Also, winter) Think of this, in any zombie media, what's the kill death ratio if any human? Dozens if not more on average. For a zombie to make a new zombie, they'd have to bite you without getting caught. That rarely, if ever happens. If a hoard overpowered you and you popped off three, that'd be a net loss. Sure, maybe the first few would catch people iff guard, but as soon as we figured out what was going on, their numbers would be shrinking, not growing. How the hell do their numbers get so big? If there was a plague that killed 90+% of the population and THEN resurrected them, that'd explain it. No one ever seems to use that explanation though. It's always "they spread like wildfire". At least in the original Night of the Living Dead they specified it was ALL dead, regardless of cause or how long they'd been deceased, assuming the body was relatively intact. As for weapon of choice, probably a knife welded to a steel pipe as a spear. A sharpened shovel would work pretty well too.
