What would be your weapon of choice in a Zombie Apocolypse? Also, how would you survive?

Title. Mine would be a small hammer. The reason I say small is that they are more lightweight, yet still a damn hammer. Because realistically guns, if you're not part of the military or something or can make bullets - guns would not be a great choice. Let's just assume there are over a billion zombies,(if not billions) you're not going to have millions of bullets laying around. Definitely not billions lmao. And the military can only do so much. You have to keep in mind that this is not a video game or movie. Logic is an actual thing. Although we most likely won't have a virus like this ever, it's quite intriguing to imagine. So answer this with a logical answer. Let's pretend this is real. What would you really use as a weapon? And how would you survive if the military was no more? Sidenote: Random encounters with other human beings would most likely result in something not intended. Most likely.(guess you can just call most people bandits) Here's exactly what I would do: Get lightweight body armor if I can find it. Lightweight, yet powerful equipment to smash into zombie skulls. Most likely take a stealth approach to most situations. If I can, gather a small team of people for supply runs. And hopefully, start a small community somewhere isolated from the zombies. Slowly rebuilding what we lost. Lay down simple rules: No stealing supplies, everyone gets an equal share daily. No violence, we have enough of that out there. Killing another will result in your own execution. If you go out for runs write down what time you left and why you're leaving.(stuff like this)

  • Okay.... A durable sword, or crowbar. A crowbar is a really handy tool, for literally everything. I would wear some light armor, but out metal scraps around certain parts such as my wrists. That way if a zombie is trying to bite me, he bites the metal. Metal on the neck, wrists, shins, ankles, and head should be enough.

  • If we're talking walking dead rules, I'd cover myself in zombie juice, grab a pointy metal stick, my recurve bow and arrows, and rig a drone with speakers and an iPod to lure hoards against humans I don't like.

Slingshot- they are easy to make/maintain and ammo is literally everywhere. Good option for silent short/mid ranged engagement. As well, you have tons of control over your "ammo". Baseball Bat- melee is the way to go, and I prefer a weapon that won't go dull (blunt force>sharp edge when it comes to numbers). Good range, and decent weight so prolonged swings won't be excessively tiring (as with a metal pipe). Also easily replaceable. Throwing Knives- Good option to have a few on hand. They double purpose as the rare instance when sharp edge trauma would be preferable (as in living targets). Pipebomb- Easy enough to craft, and supplies would be available enough to keep one on hand. Mostly just for those "oh shit" circumstances where you need to cause a distraction.

  • A 1789$ Competition Recurve bow, You can sharpen the Riser on the steel ones, and if you break the steel limbs (not likely) then you replace them with wooden limbs easily fashioned from oak, however you will sacrifice draw weight/strength. And making new shafts is fairly easy, can make like 4 in an hour, just start collecting scrap from rusting cars for arrowheads. Also a billion zombies isn’t even realistic, but for the sake of the thread I’ll play along, Id survive by turning my passion into my lifestyle, Bushcraft camping, thats how I’ll survive, Go north like Alaska north. I’ll get incredible darktime during the winter season, freeze to death yeah

  • Light armor durable enough to withstand a bite (we can actually bite harder, the only thing stopping us is pain) Armor must cover my shoulders, upper and lower arms, gloves are optional, a plate for my chest and back, and greaves for my lower legs Weapons of choice would be swords. Guns are nice, but swords don’t need ammo A simple double edged broadsword will be the main. Close range would be twin knives (6 inch) kept on the back of my belt. K-bar strapped to my ankle. Emergency switchblade on my chest. Hidden wrist blades. And throwing knives I’ll have a little blade sharpening kit on my utility belt Tactics would be to move quietly and secure the largest building first to use as a base. Then sweep through other buildings looking for survivors. Keep on rescuing and building an army Any bitten or infected will have their last rites. They may have the choice to get it over with quickly while still human, or enjoy the last few moments as much as possible and confess any sins they may have committed

  • If it was real: junk jet. Why?:CAUSE EVERYTHING IS AMMO If a zombie apocalypse started, I'd run to the nearest convenient store, grab all canned, tinned and dehydrated food in a trolley, dump it in my car and drive off to B&Q (with my mates of course). I get to B&Q and grab all the essentials: Hammers Axes Hedge trimmers (cause why not?) Lock cutters Chainsaws! And maybe even a lawn mower to use as a blade Rope Rope Go to the petrol station opposite B&Q and stock up on petrol, potentially killing zombies on the way. Drink some Mtn Dew. Blow up the petrol station whilst driving away from it. Cool guys don't look at explosions. Drive off somewhere. Not thought of where yet. Maybe to a sea port where we can use a boat to go somewhere.

I don't like the sound of ammo management personally. So if it's slow zombies, easy zombies, I'm gonna go find the weebiest sword possible and use that, for the sake of fun. If they're fast, I wouldn't be all that comfortable with something so short range, so I'd probably use a gun. How I would survive depends on how many survivors there are.

      • The problem with logic is it's boring and/or leads to a bleak outlook. There are so many things that you have to take into account to even come close to thinking about a logical zombie apocalypse. For example, numbers; first off, as someone else alluded to, the spread of zombies would likely not take place fast enough to overcome the authorities, depending on the 'type' of zombie, and the method of infection. Conversely, let's say 90% of the population of a country did get infected, the humans left are gonna have a tough time, and are very unlikely to survive for very long. Luck will be the deciding factor in the end, and it won't be on your side. The numbers would just be overwhelming; humans would not be able to get rid of them without significant assistance from natural occurrences. And nature would be just as likely to screw over the humans. Next is all the other logical threats that would likely kill you. Other people for a start; there are a lot of bad people in the world, and they would come out on top in a lawless society, at least initially. Why? Because they don't care. They will take what they want, and kill who they want, and do so without a second thought. Good people aren't like that, they'd hesitate, and that hesitation will get them killed. Aside from people, disease would reach epidemic proportions really really quickly once the current controls are removed. Everything we take for granted now would be gone, that's clean water, safe food, medical treatment, etc. Also, animals (wild, previously domesticated, and those that escape from zoos) would be a problem. But ok, let's move on to weapons. The problem here is weapons need looking after. Guns need maintaining to operate, swords (or any blade) will get really blunt really quickly and will need constant oiling and sharpening. Bows need a bit less care, so probably work well, assuming you're good enough with one, which most people probably aren't, myself included; I can hit a standard archery target from 50 yards, but no chance would I hit a moving zombie in the head from even half that distance. Blunt trauma weapons are probably the best call, and more readily available/easy to make - hammers, crowbars, mace-type weapons, etc. Finally, what would I do? First, stay at home. The panic that would ensue at the start of such an apocalypse would be far more dangerous than the actual zombies, so I'd lock myself in and (assuming my building isn't burnt down) wait it out. Then I'd use the railways (where I live, railway tracks are fenced off in almost all areas, so for the most part you've only ahead and behind to keep an eye on) to get to an area with a low population density, ideally an island. After that, do my best to grow what I can, forage for what I can, and generally spend each day trying not to die.
You have to keep in mind that this is not a video game or movie... Let's pretend this is real.
If it was real, it'd be over real fast. Forget the fact that zombies can't heal and just walking around and brushing against stuff would erode then pretty quickly. (Also, winter) Think of this, in any zombie media, what's the kill death ratio if any human? Dozens if not more on average. For a zombie to make a new zombie, they'd have to bite you without getting caught. That rarely, if ever happens. If a hoard overpowered you and you popped off three, that'd be a net loss. Sure, maybe the first few would catch people iff guard, but as soon as we figured out what was going on, their numbers would be shrinking, not growing. How the hell do their numbers get so big? If there was a plague that killed 90+% of the population and THEN resurrected them, that'd explain it. No one ever seems to use that explanation though. It's always "they spread like wildfire". At least in the original Night of the Living Dead they specified it was ALL dead, regardless of cause or how long they'd been deceased, assuming the body was relatively intact. As for weapon of choice, probably a knife welded to a steel pipe as a spear. A sharpened shovel would work pretty well too.

Maybe a shortsword. It's lightweight and long enough that I could use it effectively.

        • Bows and sharpened sticks. Grow mushrooms, potatoes, carrots, kale and other low sunlight edibles in multiple hidden places that I can move around and return to manage/harvest them. Kill any humans that I can confirm are separated from their groups and take their stuff. Any guns I find will be secured and buried in case I need to take on a large group. Creating traps and a personal map of where they are in the large area that I hunt and gather around would be helpful too. Basically, just be a self sufficient pain in the ass to zombies and humans.

A hammer won’t do much damage to the brain- all you will succeed in doing is fracturing the skull a bit. If you want to kill a zombie, then you need something that can penetrate- like a screw driver Also- lmao @ people thinking a hatchet would be an effective weapon. Have fun being eaten when it gets stuck and can’t damage the brain or even remotely sever limbs

          • Crossbow, they are quiet and I can make bolts, and a mace. You want something that can take out the brain. As for armor I just want some light weight stuff that can stop a bite

A good semi auto .22 rifle like a ruger 10/22 with a light weight composite stock with lots of magazines would be ideal for the horde. .22lr is very cheap and super common. For melee a good crowbar would probably be the most versatile.

              • Honestly, hide/leather armor and a forge with all the tools and a lot of metal (with the forge I can make swords, knives etc. As needed), I'd probably make several katana, a zwiehander or two, and... I don't really know what else.
