So Destiny 2 has been nominated for a BAFTA...but not for the Best Game, Multiplayer, Evolving Game, Game Design, Game Innovation, Narrative or even Art categories like you might expect for an MMO 1st person shooter and especially for what Bungie promised us with the sequel to Destiny.
The BAFTA nomination is for Audio Achievement.
Re-read that... Audio Achievement.
Firstly, congratulations to the Audio department as they've done an amazing job!
Secondly, WTAF Bungie?!
This clearly shows that the industry knows that Destiny 2 is a rundown, boring shell of a game that was supposed to be a sequel that built on the original, yet has fewer features than the original, and important core mechanics like weapon slots, gear grinding, end game...etc... are just so lacklustre that the industry professionals don't think it's up to scratch.
From what we had in Year 3 of D1 to now is just pitiful.
Rant over.

And the audio is TERRIBLE! I'm an audio engineer. My ears hear things that most aren't looking for. The audio of this game is terrible. It sounds like it was mixed in various studios without bothering to coordinate anything. Example: the Shrieker strike (sa Va thun). When you're nearly to the final room, Sloan goes from perfectly clear comms to horribly distorted. It's supposed to give the impression that you lost comms from the tower. Unfortunately, it just sounds like a different voice, with lots of crackling. It actually took me about 3 runs before I figured out that was Sloan. The music is ok. The sound effects are decent, not great. Banshee needs to stop smoking. And our guardian still has no voice. Maybe the BAFTA people are just impressed that Bungie didn't get into a court battle with their composer this time.
-
> best sound > no voice for guardian yeah, this game sucks.
-
Game awards? Muhahahaha! Are you serious!
-
While the audio seemed good in most parts, I ended up muting it as it used to irritate the hell out of me when it would suddenly get all dramatic when all I'm doing is plunking away at dregs on Titan while exploring. The really annoying npc or vendor dialogue which seems to be limited to 3 different lines. I got sick of Tess banging on about 'Fenchurch' and Banshee depressing the crap out of me with how he'll never forget the ones he's lost. Stopped playing just after Xmas and for the life of me can't work out how I managed to spend 400 hours on this mess. I do however, still play D1.

This is why I hate the gaming community sometimes. Either a game is absolutely amazing or it is complete trash/garbage. Destiny 2 isn't great, but neither is it trash.
-
Huh. TIL that the BAFTAs give awards to games too. Grate to the sound team, boooooo to American awards who still think that ‘games are for kids’
-
Probably the only nomination that makes sense
-
Well they couldnt bribe their way to nominations this time around. Sad they had to do it the first time around
-
Destiny has done many things wrong, but if there are 3 things they've been doing right for a while now it's the gameplay (not as good as d1 mind, but still dam good), it's visual design and it's audio design (all of that, from guns to the music).
-
Music and art work are amazing in D2, it's just a shame the rest isn't up to the same standards 😔
-
Edited by Mr Gnat: 3/16/2018 10:13:21 PMWTF. NO GAME OF THE YEAR???? This sir, IS AN INSULT TO OUR GAME!!! AND IM OUTRAGED!! After all the Bafta loot boxes we purchased. We were certain one would have dropped for us!
-
Question: How is the nomination for audio achievement clearly showing that the industry knows that Destiny 2 is a rundown, boring shell of a game...?
-
Edited by John B Buzzing: 3/17/2018 1:08:00 AMThis make's D2 SOUND bad.
-
Music and art are the only things you can't argue about in Destiny. Those two things were always good imo.
-
The only one that made me shocked was art. Not gonna lie bungie isn't that bad with art design (I'm talking about enviroment)
-
honestly how can you blame them destiny has always had an incredible soundtrack
-
It's so that they can put the "Nominated for a BAFTA" Tag on the box and sell more copies. You'd be suprised how gullible some people are. "Oh this looks like a good game as it was nominated for a BAFTA" At this stage Bungie really need to sit the marketing team down and tell them to stop doing the company any favours! There are only so many times you can look like a douche before the label sticks.
-
You aren't British are you? Lmfao.
-
D1 rated like crap and yet millions of people rushed on to play. D2 rates better and millions rush off to play something else. Apparently critics can see (or in this case hear) things that us average Joes can't. Because I honestly don't see how they received an audio nomination.
-
Edited by EARWAK3R: 3/16/2018 6:00:44 PMHey, you do know that bafta (British academy of film and tv awards) means mainly british academy film awards right? There is no best game category or any of that other nonsense you mention in the first few sentences. Its art and audio only when games get chosen for an award. D2 getting a nomination for game audio, at an awards show that is predominately film, is actually pretty good.
-
The audio people rightly deserve this nomination. The music is amazing in the game, one of the highlights for sure!
-
Hahahaha, I tried to noodle in my brain what BAFTA mean't and the only thing I could come up with was: Big Assed F*cking Turd Award Thank you.
-
The award certainly wasn’t for your guardians audio 🤭
-
lol @ BAFTA.
-
Lul even BF1 has better music.
-
Edited by blade329: 3/16/2018 3:47:23 PMMakes sense. That's about the only thing this game does better than other games. Destiny 2 doesn't do anything better, than other shooters, in things that mean the most to gamers.
