Space exploration and battles using our jumpships would give them a purpose beyond being our presence on a glorified loading screen. There's amazing potential here!
Long Night of Solace was by far one of the most fun parts of Halo Reach for me, and I think it serves as the perfect base concept for what ship battles should be like in Destiny.
[b]Some Destiny 1 ships should return to accompany this. Including, but not limited to:[/b]
* Aspect of Glass (albeit with a remixed and more glass-like appearance).
* Light in the Abyss
* Agonarch Karve
* Nanophoenix
* Waning Star
* Arcadia Class Jumpship
* Once and Future
* Valkyrie-O5X
These ships will return as Exotics.
[b]Ship Functionality[/b]
Here are the attributes every ship will have:
* Speed - Max speed when not boosting. Affected by player Mobility.
* Agility - Acceleration, and also speed at which ship can perform dodges, flips, and tricks. Affected by player mobility.
* Boost - Max speed when boosting. Affected by player mobility.
* Repair Time - Time needed to repair the ship's hull mid-flight. Affected by player recovery.
* Refresh Time - Time needed to recharge the ship's shields. Affected by player recovery.
* Armor - Resistance to damage from all sources. Affected by player resilience.
Different types of ship would have different stats. Each ship type would have its own boost effect, and three different weapon systems (two primary, one heavy). Each weapon would regenerate ammo, but the more powerful ones would take longer.
Exotic ships would not belong to a specific ship type and would have unique weapons. Aspect of Glass could have one of its primary weapons shoot glass shards at enemies, and its power weapon could stop time in a target area. Nanophoenix could have SIVA weaponary, Light in the Abyss would have Hive weaponary, Waning Star would be able to do Taken stuff, and Agonarch Karve would have elements of both Hive AND Taken.
[b]The Activities themselves[/b]
There would be exploration to be had in space. A Giant patrol space, possibly taking place in the Reef, where players can travel between areas by hopping on their ship whenever, with massive open spaces to navigate through.
There would also be battles against either small groups of enemy pilots, an assault against a larger ship (retake the Dreadnaught, anyone?), or maybe players could get ambushed and have to fight their way out.
There could also be space races.
