<So, we are starting to get more and more knowledge about the Vex (then again we still know less about them than every other enemy species besides the Darkness). As this happens, there is a question that still evades us.
The Fallen are bugs, presumably reproducing like so. Hive worms have cocoons. Hive have eggs. Cabal presumably give live birth, same could go with the Psions but I honestly don't really know how they work either.
What about the Vex? Well, they are first off they are aquatic micro-organisms. They are also classified by many lore masters as a kind of Protist. Protists, while they can reproduce sexually, usually produce asexually. Considering the Vex require a vast network and have reached a point where they have expendable units, let's go with asexual reproduction.
Another point brought up by few was the possibility that they might be silica-based. Silicon Dioxide. Silicon is what we use in computer chips and is the 8th current most common element in the universe. Assuming the universe contains more life than just us, then a silicon or even silica based lifeform is possible.
Something to back this up is the amount of glass and the references to glass used with the Vex. Silica by itself is a hard compound that appears as the mineral we know as Quartz. Silica when fused can become Fused Quartz, a type of GLASS that only has one ingredient... silica.
Based on that, I can assume that Radiolarian Cells have more than just the ability to group together (like Algae), but also form constructs. Ex. the Glass Throne in the Vault of Glass. The weird glass structure in the mission Six on Nessus.
The ability to do that also explains important Minds like Atheon, Time's Conflux and Khartion, Archival Mind (despite his 2 second appearance). Their armor is made of glass. So the chassis of Vex can be made of more Radiolarian Cells.
What about the Frame? What about the standard Chassis? Well...
Vex bodies are typically described as bronze or brass. I went with brass because it's more common. I wanted to see if there is a kind of... "silicon brass". Believe it or not, there is... but it's mostly copper. Brass is copper and zinc. However, Silicon Brass has the added benefit of silicon in it.
But what does that prove? Well... not much, but it gives a small backup to the "Vex make bodies out of themselves" thing.
However... that really isn't the case... somewhat. The Vex are so advanced and lord knows they might have other elements in them but let's take a turn.
The frames are mechanical. They would've had to have been initially made for the Vex to think about making more. In the leaked Vex cutscene, the Vex bodies are already made when the rest of the liquid goes in to power it.
So... are they built like their mega-structures or are they formed like the Glass Throne?
In order for the first theory to be true, one initial Vex must've been created. That Vex, then must've learned how to build a replica or better version of itself and passed it on. This assumes the Vex were created, and not another cosmic accident.
The second theory can be a bit of a stretch considering that we don't know much about what makes a Radiolarian Cell. However, time and effort can be put in. Hell, maybe the Cells converted other beings... wait... holy shit...
Something that supports theory 2 is that both Kabr and Asher were/are transforming into Vex constructs. Supposedly, allowing Radiolarian Fluid into your bloodstream leads to conversion. Asher's arm, whether you believe that Brakion performed surgery or he got some Cells in it, is flowing with Radiolarian Fluid. It has come to a point where he no longer bleeds blood. So there's some more support for theory 2.
Anyway, the end result is a mechanical frame hosting a series of tubes filled with Radiolarian Fluid. The frame is then surrounded by either a glass or brass chestplate. And at the very end we have the Vex, a liquid race of biomechanical beings that can have minor manipulation over spacetime and have the ability to convert entire planets into their network... a network spanning millions of units, from a simple Goblin to a Planetary Core.
So that's it. That's my post. Did you know that brass and copper and other like metals go through periods of oxidation? The lasting effect is called patina. Patina turns the shiny metal into a dull brown and can even cover it in a neat blue-green film. However, you can still see some remnants of the shiny-ness of the metal.
This suggests that Major (yellow-bar) Vex in D2 are older Vex, having served many years in the field... considering that they are literally covered in that shit.>

Edited by Cypher-8: 2/13/2018 4:14:29 AMThe vex "milk" is 100% living, perpetually charged biogenic silica gel that is dead set on finding any water to perpetuate their existence using a hive mentality and communicating through electrical currents. The only real world explaination is the breaking and reforming of the species bonds to store electricity in their "milk". Once electrically charged they have the energy required to break down anything to an atomic scale and use it to create whatever they want, even recycling the silica of a planet to create themselves. I feel they even kill off some of their individual species to form their armor when they bond with other metals and starve them of water to create a biogenic silicious metal compound. Which if you have ever worked with enzyme solidified roads, you would see that it can even petrify soil into a rock instantaneously. This same concept can be done to organize metal ions into their crystal lattices and freeze them by instantaneous dehydration, creating a silica dioxide woven metal plate. Which the texture you can see for yourself by applying a vex shader on metal armor. It has a very familiar twinning structure seen in some silicates like plagioclases. Why are they not protists (their tests are solid), In a solid state, electrons being locked in giant lattice structures of SiO2, and being unable to move around and carry the charge. Why they are most likey amorphous gel. When silicon is heated up to it's amorphous state, the giant lattice structures start to break down, and the electrons are released. this is important, because the electrons so not just conduct electricity, but also heat. when heated, the electrons are free to move around and therefore conduct heat. it is for the same reason that silicon becomes a better conductor of electricity the more you heat it up, since more of the giant lattice structures break, releasing more electrons to conduct electricity. They break and reform, break and reform to generate electricity perpetually. How to kill the vex for good! Solid state rifles for Instant dehydration shot right in their liquid chambers. Solid state cannon for instant dehydration and freezing of all milk rivers. Kill em all

Edited by PuffyPony: 2/13/2018 8:52:08 PMAsher Mir basically states that he believes the Vex are converted, which actually makes sense in the context of some other stuff we know about: the law of the jungle. Now, this gets really metaphysical and a little bit spinfoily, so get ready for this. Generally, when we read The Law of the Jungle, we assume that it's about "Might Makes Right" and the anarchy of the universe and so forth, but in reality, it's far more complicated than that. Toland the Shattered gives some insight to this when he attempts to explain the nature of the Darkness, using the metaphor of the three nations. First, the nation dedicated to Knowledge Made Paramount. Second, the nation dedicated to Perfect Rule of Law. Third, the nation dedicated to Sheer, Total Conquest. He explains that this third nation is the Darkness, the enigmatic force of conquest, of evolution, of might makes right. We're thus left to conclude that the remaining two nations are representative of the Light and Traveler, but some hints here and there suggest this may not actually be the case. Firstly, all three nations mutually compete. This doesn't really make sense if we consider both the Law and Knowledge to be the Light, so we have to ask ourselves, why would the Light fight with itself? The simplest answer is that it wouldn't, and that either the Law or Knowledge is something else. Given what we know about the Light, it's focused so heavily on uplifting civilization, sending them skyrocketing into golden ages, and cultivating them like gardens. Thus, it seems very likely that the Light is the Knowledge or Cultivation, hence the Law is something else (I'll henceforth refer to the Light as the Cultivation, and the Darkness as the Conquest). But what is the nature of the nation of laws? Well, the wording gives us some clues. "Perfect Rule of Law." That implies the law functions, without exception, without deviation, in totality and in perpetuity. In short, the nation of laws has achieved total, absolute, perfect Convergence. Can we think of anything in the Destiny universe that seeks Convergence? Yup. You guessed it. The Vex. In fact, Osiris says as much in CoO. The Vex seeks to conform everything to their programming--it's not enough to just create new things to fit the programming, but all things which violate the code, the law, must be forced to conform. They are, in short, converted, made to obey this Convergence to the perfect rule of law that struggles against the uplifting forces of Cultivation and the domination of Conquest. The Vex exist because the Law of the Jungle says they must--the wolf that shall keep it will prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die. They must bring all to heel, convert everything to exist under this perfect rule of law. They, just as much as the Conquest and the Cultivation, are part of the "Destiny Trinity. They are the Horizon between the Sky and the Deep.

Got a question, may need to re read. The vex are a parasite? Ok, what I mean is. They "infect" a world, slowly eat it, to create radiolaria (saw this in a mission text).

Fun fact, there is indeed a "First Vex" called The First Program and is mentioned in one of the Adventures of Nessus in the game. In the Adventure "Deep Conversation" your Ghost interacts with a Vex Node to find out what they are doing on Nessus. Towards the end you get two different dialogues that happens randomly. A) They mention that the Vex Units of the Virgo Prohibition on Mar were an obsolete unit that was mistakenly sent to Mars and are ill equipped to deal with the Cabal there. or B) They mention that they received their orders from something called The First Program that was timestamped that predates the Golden Age. Perhaps they are thought into existence? If they can travel through time, at what part in the process do they actually travel? Is it after the physical process of 'pressing the button', or is it at the moment of thought?
