To keep our weapons and stop potential shootings
1. High powered automatic firearms should only be accessible by the government (This does not include carbines or semi-auto weaponry)
2. Mentally unhealthy people should not have access to weapons (Have to provide documentation stating you are mentally fit)
3. Criminals should not be able to purchase weapons
4. If first time purchasing a weapon you should have to watch a mandatory gun safety video
5. Don't give guns to people who will use them in a bad way (FunkBrotha10)
6. If you wish to purchase a weapon you have to dress up like a clown and make a 3 year old laugh.
In case you couldn't tell the last 2 are obviously a joke. The main points are
1. Mentally unfit people should not be able to purchase weapons.
2. Teach people proper gun safety.

Started a new topic: The problem with semi-auto guns(17 Replies))

Your main points do sound very good, but I don't think a solution would be that easy. Maybe a solution to the current problem is that easy, but I just don't know.
-
Go on, Gas. What's a high powered weapon. Go on.
-
No, you only figured out how to get a hot topic dipshit.
-
1: pretty much already in effect, its incredibly hard to get automatic weapons, and when you do legally, you consent to search of property at all times. 2: Already in effect, if they are classified as such and to be a threat, they cannot buy a gun. 3:Already in effect 4:Already in effect, well in most states, i know here in VA, you are required to do a class for CCW permit, and some states require it for open carry. So in reality, nothing has changed with these suggestions.

Give everyone guns but no bullets. It's genius.
-
I think the only true way to stop shootings is to cut off everybody's arms.
-
Give everybody all the guns.
-
If first time purchasing a weapon you should have to watch a mandatory gun safety video
This is hilarious.
-
What's from stopping a mentally unfit person from taking their dad's gun?
-
Why don't we just ban ammo?
-
I figured out how to keep guns and stop shootings.
Make bullets illegal! I'm smart.

Mentally Ill and Criminals cannot legally purchase weapons in the US. and background checks are standard and law when firearms are being purchased from a licensed dealer. and support the NRA, then. why? because what the media doesn't tell you is that they're one of the premier organizations for firearms safety training(and range safety officers need their accreditation program), and were founded with the goals of A)teaching gun safety B)increasing marksmanship. and only since guns became more heavily regulated that they've had to become political to preserve citizen's rights.

1. Full autos, suppressors, short barrel weapons and other destructive devices are already controlled tightly. You need a class three tax stamp to own one which is a living hell to go through. I bought a suppressor on August 19th and it hasn't even cleared for transfer to the store yet, when it does I will have another 6+ month wait and a mountain of paper work. 2. Mentally unstable people are not allowed to own firearms in any state, it's in the form you fill out to purchase a firearm. (Form 4473) 3. People convicted of a felony or violent misdeminers are not allow to purchase or possess firearms. See form 4473 4. Safety video? Why not a safety class? Hands on training or none at all. And here's the Standrad gun sale form 4473. You fill that out then the seller performs a background check brought a government database.

Howabout practising bullet control?
-
How about taking a page from Switzerland and making a mandatory militia training? Everyone is trained for gun usage, has the right to own Semi-automatics. That way we don't have to specifically train teachers or whatever the current suggestion is. :P And we save on defense spending by scaling the Military back to more specific Special Forces units.

but what if they go mental AFTER they purchase a gun?
-
So, change almost nothing?
-
1. Mentally unfit people should not be able to purchase weapons. 2. Teach people proper gun safety.
I am nearly positive that these two are currently law, at least in the state of Pennsylvania. I guess it depends on your definition of "mentally unfit", as I imagine that could vary greatly.
Criminals should not be able to purchase weapons
How does one become a criminal?
-
What about illegal guns?
-
1. Automatic weapons are already highly regulated. Only the rich can afford them as your cheapest MAC10 that went for 90 bucks in the early 80s is now 5 grand. On top of that, there has been one murder with an automatic weapon since 1932. 2. Already a restriction. 3. Already a restriction 4. agree to a certain extent. A hour long course on basic maintenance and safety should suffice. But who will administer the test? What about private party purchases? 5. Selling a firearm to a felon is a felony. Buying a gun and giving it to someone is a felony. 6. wat?

Edited by kappus 000: 1/15/2013 9:59:29 PMsorry, got stuck at the 'keep weapons' bit. what's that about? rhetorical question.
-
We could just ban bullets.
-
1. Already happens. Anyway the bigger problem is high capacity pistols I belive. 2. Crazy people steal guns. Not buy them. Not a bad idea though. 3. Criminals will buy guns from other criminals. You just can't stop criminals from getting guns. 4. I don't see the problem with a safety class 5. Wat 6. See 5

Really the only changes are 2 and 4.
