Some (constructive) criticism for D2, and tips on how to make the inevitable D3 better.
So, the community has been a bit.. flustered lately with the madness about the Faction Rally being eff'd up again and the whole lack of a meaningful endgame, but I also see too many people shouting and cursing at Bungie instead of giving detailed critique on why they're failing and what they need to do. I'm going to do just that here. Here are the problems I think are dragging D2 down and how I think they can be fixed.
The 'identity crisis' of Destiny. Is it a game for casuals or is it a game for the hardcore? I honestly don't have a quarrel with either, but it doesn't seem like this game's made a decision as to which it wants to be. It is better to cater obviously to one or the other, but never really to try and balance... Mostly because that balancing act fails, and you end up with a travesty that no one wants to play. A path really needs to be decided for the game. Do you want this game to be one that you can sink 400 hours into and not tire of it, or one that you play over the span of a week for 2 hours at a time and never touch again. Decisions need to be made.
The endgame. The Leviathan was a decent raid in its own rite, but it was bogged down by the glitch as all hell Gardens encounter at launch and just unimaginative game design. The Gauntlet was cool in theory but is boring in practice (to me at least), and Calus is practically Atheon turned up to 11 (which I don't REALLY take issue with). The raid has a beautiful atmosphere, that should be noted, but what should also be noted is that the raid was the most unrewarding raid we've ever had in Destiny. Yes, it's getting fixed sometime to allow for drops after each encounter, but I honestly see no reason that was changed in the first place. Raids are the toughest activities in the game, and we shouldn't be getting mainly tokens from them. Also, the raid 'lairs', while they're cute, don't really scratch my raiding itch, as well as many others, probably. They should be added to supplement new raids not replace them.
The token system. For strikes, fine. For normal PvP, fine. And for World vendors like Devrim, fine, but we shouldn't have them for ANY higher level activities, like the aforementioned raid. Trials, raids, IB, and other endgame activities should straightaway give out loot, not require tokens for engrams for loot.
Exotics. While I do feel the ones added with CoO were a lot better than those in the base game, we need better. If you want to go bringing old stuff back, how bout black spindle, TLW, or even the Chaperone? The Jade Rabbit is underwhelming, as well as most of the other old exotics brought back. And while you're at it, make NEW exotics better, please. The Aeon gauntlets were a cool thought, and something akin to those would be cool in the future. We also need class specific exotic weapons. Make em even better than before. We need the creativity that Bungie had in D1 back. Forget balance for a minute, and just make fun crap.
And Eververse. I see a ton of people complaining about it, but almost no one provides realistic solutions for it. Shall I propose one? First, we need to be able to get silver through some means. Even if just through one way, we need something. Through the Nightfall, or doing the raids. Hell, maybe even doing heroic adventures? Also think that the silver dust cost of exotic items should be lowered just a tad. Spending like 3-4k on an emote just feels ridiculous no matter how 'worth it' that emote may be. We could also have ways for getting specific items through in-game activities. Say, we get 1 random exotic item from the Eververse store for doing the Nightfall each week. Removing Eververse is not only irrational, but impossible since the game's already been modeled around it. They'd need to fully redesign the game from the ground up to do that, and they nor we have the time or patience necessary for that. Better to just reshape it to fit our desires.
One last note regarding D3.
If those pyramid structures we saw in the ending of the main campaign aren't the first things to be explained in the main D3 campaign, you're screwed. We need to know what they are, and since I have the sneaking suspicion you won't explain them in D2, it better be the first thing we see in D3.
4h subclass, make it so. I know that kind of goes against the lore, but think of the implications. We already know that Emperor Calus knows of power beyond our light, so who's to say he can't help us get a 4th subclass in D3. While we're on the Calus subject, we neeed to meet him in D3. It's plainly a must.
And lastly, For God's sake, can we get some more details about the Exo Stranger? I could have sworn I heard somewhere that you guys actually thought that plotline was wrapped up??? We, the players, would feverishly disagree. We don't know who she is, and we NEED to know. She's too interesting of a character to be left undetailed. Please, Bungie, give us explanations
