The Development Update dropped as expected; and as I expected, it was loaded with pure garbage.
There's some people I've seen who seem to think that these are going to be "major, game changing changes!!!"
I disagree.
What is there to be "happy" about in that thinly-veiled PR bullshit?
So we should praise them for adding in features that were in the prequel, stripped from the sequel, and then they're making their Players pay for those features again?
Nevermind that none of what Barrett posted fixes any of the core issues with the game. They're merely cosmetic "surface" fixes, which will still not fix the bleeding-out of their player population. The game will still play like trash. Armor is still broken down to nothing more than a cosmetic skin for your character, with zero game mechanic effects. Weapons are still going to feel like you're shooting nothing more than harsh language at your enemies (all because of their boring, precious, PvP "balance". Balance is goddamn boring in a loot-shooter like this, Bungie!)
Not to mention, they're -STILL- funneling players back to the Eververse again and again. Barrett tried to hide it with clever double-speak, but the end-game goal is still the Eververse in Bungie's mind. They moved a few categories of loot (ships, sparrow, ghost shells) to end-game activities, but notice that there's no mention of slowing the rate of Eververse inventory increases. They're still going to be pumping more and more loot into the Cash Shop, at the expense of making any sort of deep, engaging, time-intensive PvE content.
This was nothing more than damage control through a shit post, in regards to a game that will continue to be shit.
Why?
Because Bungie is incapable of fixing the core design flaws that they made in this game.
I used to think that Bungie was simply unwilling to make the needed changes. Now I firmly believe that both situations are true.
Not only are they unwilling, but they're incapable as well. They simply lack the sheer capacity to fix all/any of the errors that they made when making Destiny 2. They took D1, stripped it down to the most bare-bones "features", and now they simply cannot reverse what they've wrought.
In all, that "development update" was nothing more than a long-winded version of the bullshit PR spin that DeeJ/Cozmo/Dmg(control)04 post repeatedly.
Just more of that "We hear you. We made mistakes. We'll do better. Please just throw more money at your screen for our next DLC, which we'll continue to goad you into buying the actual Loot through our Cash Shop, even though you technically already paid for it with the DLC price."
"Eververse was never intended to be a substitute for end-game content and rewards."
Bullshit.
If that were even remotely the case, then Bungie wouldn't have designed the very core mechanics of the game, and the flow of in-game activities to constantly recycle and redirect the Players back to the Cash Shop in an atrocious downward spiral of "Oh, you didn't get the rewards from RNG? Then go to our Cash Shop and purchase further RNG chances to try to win the item you want!"
All Bungie is doing with these planned "future development changes/updates", is reskinning Destiny 1 cosmetic changes, and reselling it to you all over again; even though none of these items (and far, far more) should have ever been taken out of the game code in the first place. Destiny 2 should have started out with the mechanics that were in place at the end of Destiny Y3; not have the mechanics stripped out, turned into an inferior "sequel", then have the purely cosmetic effects reskinned and sold to you again.
This game deserves to die the slow, bleeding death that it currently is suffering due to developer indifference and stupidity.
Discuss.
