Without Bungie providing the percentage increase of chance for an exotic to drop, how do we know if ToC does anything at all?
We can’t rely on Bungie’s veracity here either. Think, first they throttled experience gain without telling us but allowed us to buy fire team medallions that would have been pointless if you were being throttled. Then they “fixed” the issue of throttling xp gain but then DOUBLED the amount of xp needed to level up without telling a soul.
Based on that track record, what’s keeping them from releasing ToC as a placebo for us to burn through the thousands of shards we have? How does one prove that random drops have increased when said drops are RANDOM?!?
UPDATE: So after reading many of your comments it seems as if ToC is in fact BUGGED and REDUCES your chance of gaining exotics when activated. My recommendation is to avoid using ToC at all costs if you value getting exotic drops.
Bungie is now on Christmas break so it’s doubtful we will hear anything on this issue nor will it be resolved any time soon.
Here is a link to Kackis speaking on the issue as well: https://youtu.be/m7efJD5jImE
UPDATE 2: Bungie is officially looking into the ToC matter: https://twitter.com/DeeJ_BNG/status/942446254260236288?s=17

Lol. Who would even bother with them? Just grind for exotics without the shortcuts.
-
Does nothing. I've gone through four of them and only received two exotics. I'm fairly confident I would have received two exotics over 16 hours of play regardless. I even tried running nothing but public events to see if that would increase my chances and I never got ONE engram in four hours. I got one playing crucible and one on a heroic strike.
-
Don't buy them, waste of shards
-
I will not be buying those again lol...
-
I'm convinced it absolutely does nothing. If not that, actually reduces our chances at exotics. Most likely just that it does nothing. Just a way to waste Legendary shards in an attempt to get players to play more to earn the shards back.

Three of Coins is a farce!

Sounds like the best place to use these are the crucible.
-
I've only bothered using 2 and playing the full four hours, so it's definitely a small sample size to base on, but in each case I received one exotic, both below power level. I'm quite certain I regularly received the same or more prior to update without three of coins. It definitely doesn't seem worth it.
-
They still havent said how ToC worked in d1, just admitted they were confusing.
-
Doesn’t matter because exotics are already way to plentiful and easy to get.
-
That’s what -blam!-ing annoys me with Bungie. “Increases handling” by how much? “Increases the chance for exotic drop” BY HOW MUCH BUNGIE GEEZ!
-
Be quiet or you’ll make them cry even louder than they already are
-
Well they dropped the drop rate of exotics before the three of coins release so the three of coins really just brings it back up to what it once was.
-
Ran one for four hours of grinding and didn't get a single exotic drop. Bungie is really awful at finding a balance for drop rates.
-
It's a waste regardless if it works or not. This game has no grind when it comes to the exotics. Outside of 1. This game needs a grind as this community so frequently complains about. Why would I use this coin? Lol
-
Had one clanmate get 5 exotics while having a 3 of coins on in the 4 hours whilst doing strikes. I only got 2 myself 🤷♂️. As with everything that’s random to begin with, sometimes RNGesus blesses you, sometimes RNGesus bends you over and goes in dry. An increased chance is still not a guarantee!
-
Well, people did complain about having too many shards. So bungie gave us something to stuff our virtual pockets full of weird coins! I'd say we asked for it lmfao
-
Probably. I imagine the drop chance goes from .1% to .15%. At least that's what it feels like. Guess I'll be relying on Xur now.
-
I would say so. And at the price Xur is selling, definitely not worth it.
-
I had no problem with this post until I read, "~Nyahh! =^,.,^=".

What isn't a placebo?
-
I think it's a placebo 90% of the time. And is only gets activated when a player does certain activities during the time frame. Like 2 strikes, 4 public events and 3 patrols. And when people do 20 public events and finally gets a drop it's due to basic rng mechanics and nothing to do with 3oC.

A friend in need's a friend indeed, A friend with weed is better, A friend with breast and all the rest, A friend who's dressed in leather, A friend in need's a friend indeed, A friend who'll tease is better, Our thoughts compressed, Which makes us blessed, And makes for stormy weather, A friend in need's a friend indeed, My Japanese is better, And when she's pressed she will undress, And then she's boxing clever, A friend in need's a friend indeed, A friend who bleeds is better, My friend confessed she passed the test, And we will never sever, Day's dawning, skins crawling Day's dawning, skins crawling Day's dawning, skins crawling Pure morning Pure morning Pure morning
Is Three of Coins simply a placebo?
No. It's not a placebo. A placebo gives you peace of mind through a false sense of security. 3oC is more or less a con in its current state. There is no piece of mind. There is no trust or sense of security. There IS buyer's remorse. It feels like getting sold a lemon by a sleazy used car salesman.
