So we all know that Starcraft is an amazing strategy game.
But it does have the potential to be an amazing FPS.
While watching gameplay on the Legacy of the Void DLC, I wondered, would it do well as an FPS?
You could play as maybe Terrans, perhaps Protoss, and attack and kill Zerg.
Would this idea be cool? Or would it flunk out?

It could work, but you risk the fact that it just might turn up to be just another generic FPS of which there are 13 in a dozen. It is not like there aren't already many FPS's in a similar setting.
-
I think it would be cool to see it in the same format as Natural Selection 2. One person plays it as an RTS while the others are playing an FPS. It could actually work fairly well.
-
Don't see why it should, its popularity ones from its RTS roots. The fps market is already bloated and I'm 99% sure a star craft shooter wouldn't stand out. Furthermore if it were to fail I would absolutely mock it as it being a fps game is simply a dumb move to me.

they tried creating a stealthy third person shooter named starcraft ghost but it got scrapped apparently.
-
They tried in the past and it was canned.

I'm the biggest Starcraft fan you'll ever know and I'll be down for this. If a game like this were to happen, I want it to be focused around the UED like the Brood War Terran campaign. The UED fleet that went to the Koprulu Sector was destroyed by Kerrigan but that wasn't their full fleet and strength. Since DuGalle had kids, playing as an elite guard for DuGalle's son wanting to avenge his father by going back to finish the UED's mission would be cool. If that's not the case, then having a FPS game where we get to play as Nova would be even better. She deserves her own game after what Blizzard did to Starcraft: Ghost. They can have so much fun coming up with abilities to use, level designs, and enemy types. The sad thing is since Starcraft's popularity has tanked in recent years and with Blizzard pushing more focus into Warcraft and Overwatch, this game will never happen.

Maybe it letting you go into first person as a random weak soldier before he or she dies then going back to the tactical view. But I don't think that the starcraft community would take too kindly to a full fledged FPS.

We need to wait for technology to improve, deal with large crowds. Imagine gunning down a zerg rush.

There are some custom games that are fps type where you control a marine or another terran unit and do different objectives
-
I’ve thought of this before. You would play as a Terran marine in the beginning, and as you advance your rank in the Dominion army, you would unlock new weapons like the firebat flamethrower, Ghost sniper rifle, and reaper jump pack. While in combat, there would be vehicles that spawn in every once in a while with things like hellions and goliaths. I think it would be amazing, and in a dlc or future update, they could add a whole new Protoss side of the game, where you start as a zealot and can become a Templar or something over time.

Edited by Lynx7386: 11/13/2017 2:21:13 PMI've been posting this idea for over 10 years now and blizzard still won't take notice: They should make a starcraft mmorpg with a 3 faction system: -terran characters play like a first person shooter. You upgrade weapons and gear, and can get access to vehicles and aircraft in some areas. Progression is mostly gear based. -protoss characters play like a third person action rpg. Most combat is melee. You progress primarily through a skill tree advancing your psionic abilities as you level. You can somewhat upgrade via weapons and armor, but not to the extent terrans can. There's also the possibility of eventually having a single "combat pet" selected from the many robotics protoss use. -zerg characters play like a small scale top-down strategy game, controlling a squad of zerg units. Progression mostly comes in the form of upgrading units or acquiring more powerful units, but no gear or weapons are utilized. Units are individually much weaker than protoss or terran but you can control several at once. Faction vs faction vs faction involves capturing and controlling zones and planets. Pve would take place on non PvP worlds and follow a different campaign for each faction. There you have it, three games in one that could last a decade

They almost did a Third Person Shooter. Starcraft Ghosts. Cancelled though.

Remember that X-Com FPS... lol
