This week we got to sit down with Destiny Community Artist's Alisia Rose and Clinton Felker to talk art, streaming and Destiny. One thing we have always done with the DTC is try to make the experience as comfortable and natural as possible for our guests, most of whom have never been on a podcast (an many never listened to themselves recorded). To this end we try to keep the episodes laid back and create an atmosphere like friends just talking in game chat.
We have an idea of things we want to touch on and we know the episodes will start with the guests telling the community about themselves and end with some favorite moments playing. But the in-between is all off the cuff and natural flow of conversations. This allows for topics to develop and for the experience to be very organic.
This week we had some incredible conversations about Alisia and Clinton's art and how they create it as well as talk about the upcoming expansion and thoughts on the upcoming streams; but the conversation also led to the issue of harassment and how difficult it can be for female gamers/streamers in an online world where unwanted advances/abuse are unfortunately and wrongly seen as just normal internet culture that can't/won't change.
As always we appreciate you talking the time to listen and weigh in and support the guests we have on and if you'd like to join us to talk Destiny in the future please reach out to us and let us know.

I’m just now catching up on a bunch of podcasts. Great episode by the way. It’s a little sad that it’s a reminder of how toxic and reprehensible that the gaming community can be. Female gamers being treated wrongly is something that I too have experienced. However, it’s not just female gamers are in, but anyone different, including players with speech impediments or even gamers Who are shy. I just wish that we could grow as a culture starting with bnet.

The internet gives cowards a voice. Sorry your guest has to deal with all the BS.

I've never even met a girl on Destiny, let alone seen one being harassed. Not to say it doesn't happen, but I haven't seen it. Then again I don't play much outside the circle that is my friends and my clan lol, so I might be a little sheltered to this issue affecting women.

I'm on the fence on the chat feature now. I was called the N word because I messed up once in a raid. If we get chat in the tower would be...something.

I don’t really see the harassment of female gamers. As somebody who lives with a female gamer I see the opposite. She gets spammed with friends request and people treat her differently than male gamers. I can’t raid with her anymore because we trash talk to each other a lot, it’s how we have fun, but people see it as be being a jerk and hop to her defense. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen because I’m sure it does, but I don’t think it happens as often as people believe. I think females are more than welcomed into the gaming community now than they were 10 years ago.

When it comes down to it, punks who look for self actualization will always target someone for any reason to consider them inferior. Letting it be known how much superior they pretend like they are. Putting down the other gender has been since the first years of humanity. There is no such thing as a female gamer, we are all gamers, we are a community and we should cherish what we love. I respect redwing as a community leader and the women of the destiny community as regular members of the community, because they are a part of us.

Enjoyable episode. It is always good to step outside of my normal interests and learn a little about a subject such as art, in which I would normally not delve to any extent. It was also interesting to hear a little of Alisia and RGWs views on harassment. To be honest, I have seen some pretty horrendous on line harassment sent to men and I am not convinced that it is worse for women than men. The type of harassment sent to women can be different ( not wishing to draw the attention of bots/ mods, and perhaps children who could read this, I will leave out a description) but all of it is completely unacceptable. Sadly, it is a part of modern media where things are said in print that would never ever be said face to face seem to be becoming more and more normal. Our remedy, is of course the mute and block buttons. No one has to put up with bad behaviour, male or female. For me a gender neutral psn helps me to a) Play multiplayer games on an equal footing. If I win in Crucible then if I am going to get hate mail, it is less likely to be of an inappropriate nature b) I will not get unwanted advances. Should this be necessary? Of course not, it shouldn’t matter one bit what gender anyone is, but we live in the world as it is not how we would like it to be. Obviously this is not every woman’s choice and I respect that they do not want to do this slight subterfuge. I have no problem with both men and women wanting Clans which cater to their gender only. They offer things that mixed Clans do not and the more choice people have the better. A gender specific Clan is not my choice, but each to their own

A little bump here. I'll be able to hear it in a couple hours. Interested in the unwanted advances part. I have no friends on this account, but when I ran my main in D1... I demanded respect for the female players.

Excellent podcast Sols. I 100% agree that people should be held accountable for their actions/statements online. 99.9% of people you would meet on the street would never consider saying some of the things the feel so easy to say hiding behind a GT. Also, just a tip about the warlock that I actually saw on a post here. Equip a sword, gives you a 3rd person view of your jumps. Seems to be the best way to get a handle on the warlock butterfly jump P.S congrats again on the honorable mention to both you and redwing
