So, a theory popped up a while ago when discussing Nezarec, the fabled "God". This also relates to the fifth race.
Basically the piece of concept art above was somehow related to the Darkness, with a triangle ship in the background and the statues I guess, vaguely resembling the stick figures in the concept art for D1.
So I had a thought, is that thing in the background really a triangle ship? So I closely analyzed it and what I found was a little bigger than that.
First off, the two pillars around the ball in the middle have a sort of... maze-like design on them. I then had a realization that those are the same symbols found on the ground around the ruins on Io.

Sorry for the quality, I had to screenshot it from Youtube.
Anyway, not only that, but I looked VERY closely at it. There's a little shadow in the background, triangle shaped, very hard to see.
Now to the ball... the ball has markings that look pretty damn close to the Traveler.
As for the giant thing in the background, I noticed a little dip in what would be considered the lower levels of the ship, just like the Pyramid Ships we saw before.
I... I think I now believe this is the fifth race. For so long I just thought it was Hive concept art but... then I looked closely at it.
Thoughts?
EDIT: I just looked at the "city"... the markings look sort of like the ones in the concept art for the Tetrahedral ships.

Awesome, but I think those three characters are Guardians (if you said that already, I missed it). I'm PRAYING for the fifth race to look like those statues on the left and right; giant, shadowy, intimidating.

The question everyone should be asking is..."is that titan wearing a cape!?"

I'd also like to point out something about the Headdresses the female looking busts are wearing. They look sort of Egyptian. With that image, it brought to mind Osiris and his exit from the Tower and falling out with the Speaker. It was said that Osiris tried to talk to the speaker about the origin of the Traveler, and the speaker claimed it was heresy. Osiris may have discovered something from ancient times and we may be seeing it's return.

I've asked this before: why are people calling them the 5th Race? 1. Fallen 2. Hive 3. Vex 4. Cabal 5. Taken My math says this new race, if it is, in fact, a new race would be number 6.
-
So I was thinking, and I'm just floating out this idea. What if the Sixth Race, (taking into account the existence of the Taken) is the Darkness, and in their quest to bring the universe to its final form, they created an AI and gave it paracausal properties to help them destroy weaker species. That AI then abandoned it's mission of distruction and proceeded to use its powers to help other species ascend. It saw that instead of destroying the weak, building them up would ultimately lead to perfection. The Darkness, then proceeded to hunt that AI across the universe. In short, the Darkness 'made' the Traveler.

I hadn't even noticed that the Ball had those markings. Good catch, it absolutely looks like the markings on the Traveller. https://psmedia.playstation.com/is/image/psmedia/destiny-ttk-expansions-two-column-planet-01-ps4-eu-13aug15?$TwoColumn_Image$

There is always the theory that darkness doesn’t actually exist. It’s just a lack of light. Maybe the triangle ships are the fifth race. Maybe they are beings that for some reason are just hell bent on extinguishing the light. They could be so powerful, that they were given the moniker “the darkness”. But, like I said, maybe the darkness doesn’t really exist. Just beings (worms, hive, 5th race) who abhor the light.

Dude. Now I’m terrified.
-
Cool. I’ll have to look at that more closely. Thanks

Great stuff. I will add that the statues have busts of a female that seems very unlike hive, besides the fact that it face is more human in appearance and less boney, skull designed.

But he wants to stand agaisnt the deep, he wants the universe to keep going, so he can cause more pain.

Edited by NewMatth: 10/24/2017 11:42:10 AMThere's a Darkness version of the Traveler. And the ships are housed with Dark Guardians.
