So what's everyones opinions? Over the last week I've thought about buying the game. Then Raycevik uploads a video on it and now my interest has grown even more.
But before i decide to make the purchase I'd like to ask you goons how you feel about the game.
I picked up the game

I'll write up my first review for it here, just for you. •Game completion percentage: probably 70%. (Not just story completion, actual game completion. This is just an estimate) •Hours played: 60 (according to the save file, but I've left the game open and idle a bunch of times so it's nowhere near that actually. I'd guess 20-30 hours) •My rating: Must play. Purchase optional, warrants a must-rent at minimum. I'll start with the usual suspects: Graphics: Very good. In a time when every AAA looks beautiful, this one can be easy to overlook. The graphics won't blow you away, but they're certainly not subpar. Lighting and reflection effects are especially good. Audio: The soundtrack fits the theme very well although it doesn't necessarily stand out. I am a fan of simplicity however, and this game does the soundtrack right. Just enough to compliment the mood and not overdone. Voice acting is not bad, and there are even some gems in the form of audio tracks that are quite good. I don't own any high end audio equipment nor do I consider myself an audiophile so I can't comment on actual quality. Gameplay: Excellent. This is where the game really shines. From the solid shooter mechanics and alien abilities to the linear-style yet often explorable and puzzle-esque environment to the game economy where you'll be collecting junk to break down in to materials and crafting the blueprints you find, I am whole heartedly in love with the gameplay. Unfortunately, its not perfect and the enemies leave something to be desired. More on this shortly. Overall: You play as Morgan Yu, the director of research on TranStar. After an alien outbreak you're tasked with deciding the fate of the ship and its inhabitants. You'll be confronted with some personal dilemmas while trying to unearth the mysteries surrounding the outbreak and your own character. There are several classes of enemies, and of each class there are several types, many with unique abilities and even some elemental stuff among them. Despite initially being very scary and having huge potential however, the enemies quickly become mundane. Most of them can all be fought in the same way as the last and often they all look basically the same as well. The environment is incredibly fun to explore and traverse, often times with locked rooms and areas having multiple avenues for entry depending on how you've chosen to upgrade your skill tree. Initially, one might think the environment is designed to be linear, and in some ways it is. But to the curious and clever gamer, the environment is your oyster. The story is difficult to really critique without giving up spoilers, so I'll just say it's interesting and enjoyable. There are plenty of optional and side quests to break up the monotony and keep you entertained and busy alongside the main story quests. They're done quite well and always seem to add to the overarching narrative instead of branch off on their own or take away from it. The game keeps you engaged with a solid upgrade tree to new abilities, both passive and actives types. You can definitely get through the game without coming close to upgrading everything, or for the true explorer and completionist you can take your time and handily upgrade everything.
Be careful overdoing your upgrades in the alien categories though! :)
Conclusion: Prey probably isn't for everyone. It's not going to scratch a twitch-shooter itch and doesn't do survival-horror all that well (despite how much it tried to). But if you're looking for something to keep you busy in between your other games and you like the Bioshocks and Systemshocks of the gaming world, Prey will be a delight. I dropped the cash and bought the game, and I have no regrets whatsoever. I'm happy to have it among my personal game library. However, I wouldn't think less of you if you decided to rent it instead.
