The Giant Bones of Io

Some of you may have noticed the bones laying around Io. When asked about it, a developer did admit that the bones were left there on purpose and not just for aesthetic. So this brings up the question: Who do the bones belong to and why are they there? Personally, I think that they're the remains of underwater animals like whales or something because of all the shells and fossils of hermit like creatures buried with them. Maybe Io could have had an ocean at one point? I'm curious too see what you guys think!

    • So far on destiny's Io I have seen imitation fossil ammonite, trilobite and bones. As I collect fossils I find Io rather beautiful.

    • I do not believe they are ahamkara bones. Those need to be small and coated in silver to not drive us insane or influence us. The large ocean theory sounds good. Bungie has also stated that there are other dragons in destiny. This could mean corrupted wyrms or entirely different species. But those bones are older. I think they were unearthed by the traveler. Possibly an inconsequential fossil, simply indicating that there was life in our Galaxy before us

    • There's supposedly been ahamakara seen around Jupiter and since Io is a moon of Jupiter, it may be ahamakara bones. The ammonite like fossils imply that it is more likely a sea creature, but the largest bones seem to be sitting on the surface of the planet, as opposed to the ammonites, which are embedded in walls as if they were fossilized in ocean sediments.

    • The devs have talked about their desire to tell that story in the future. So, we're probably gonna get sold that one.

      • They might be the same bones that belong to the sea creature on titan

      • My name is Byf played the audio of that developer's discussion of the bones, and hearing it myself was a let down. The developers explains that the bones are there to draw attention and get players thinking, but it's the kind of thing that'll be left as a mystery by Bungie. Everybody misunderstood and thought he was saying "Get hyped, we'll give you answers eventually."

      • Unfortunetly, will probably never know. There is an audio of the game devs in which they say those bones were left with purpose to make gamers "think" but actually there is no explanation.

      • Clearly just whale fossils, unlikely to be dragons

      • I'm gonna be honest here... despite me and every single circuit in my body absolutely hating the Ahamkara and, at this point, hating space dragons with the exception of certain iterations of King Ghidorah... those bones are probably Ahamkara.
