Destiny 2 - Shelved; My Final Thoughts

Thanks for reading my thread. Let me first start off by saying, that I have sifted through the toxicity of these forums for what will mark 10-Years in the coming months. Things never used to be as bad as they are now, but expectations and entitlement have pushed people to new lows, so take what you read ahead to your own liking, it is merely my insight, analysis, and opinions.. EDIT NOTE #1: Thank you all for your words, wisdom, input, and thoughts. I appreciate the time and effort you've put into both taking the time to read my thread, and reply, good and bad. Didn't know this thread would take off the way it did. EDIT NOTE #2: Perhaps some of you misunderstand, I'm not permanently quitting, I am shelving the game until things are fixed, preferably in the near future, or unless my friends message me to help them in activities. To those giving me the obligatory "Git Gud in D2", I have a 2.0~ K/D Ratio in both games, and I only Solo Queue unless my friends need help, thank you. This topic will culminate my final thoughts of Destiny 2, why I'm going back to Destiny 1, and why it is not only the biggest letdown I've ever had to my gaming history, but to why it is also a lifeless shadow/shell of Destiny 1. The game will now sit in my game room, as of tonight, as a collectors item, and nothing more. The only time I will play it now, is if somebody on my friends list personally wants/needs my help. Let's begin. I decided to log into Destiny 1 tonight and play 5 games of Crucible. I cannot even begin to explain how much better Destiny 1 not only feels after playing Destiny 2, but how it handles, and how much stronger, faster, and less held-back you feel. I felt like a god jumping into Control and quite literally slaughtering the enemy team single-handed. I had more fun again than I could put into words. Then I remembered Destiny 2 was a thing again. Bungie has literally watered down everything we ever loved about Destiny, in Destiny 2. Everything feels weaker, everything feels slower, everything feels forced. The truth of the matter is, while processing the hype, taking in the story-line (something we can all agree was better than Destiny 1's) and going through it all, many began to fathom the realization that there is essentially no end-game, no reason to grind after a certain period of time. I even deleted my Titan to make a second Warlock and ran through the Campaign, again... Then deleted my Hunter and lost motivation entirely after I created him again. I often find myself sitting in orbit thinking of SOMETHING to do to have fun in this game. Destiny 2 eliminates any sense of individuality that the first game presented, and instead tries to force us to cope with relying on people we don't even know, which in turn causes frustration. Bungie has essentially weakened everything to the point where it FORCES teamwork in order to even get through a casual Crucible match. Abilities take far too long to recharge (Even with EVERY piece of armor having the "Abilities recharge quicker when using <Subclass>", Supers take far too long to get, and feel significantly weaker now, due to energy weapons doing 1.5x damage to someone in their super (Honestly, who thought this was a good idea, especially since you essentially only get ONE super per game now, I could see it being viable if it was like D1, where you could get 3-4 supers per match). A lone guardian can now take someone out of their super with an energy auto rifle faster than if they didn't have their super active. That's extremely backwards, considering a super not only takes ages to charge, but is supposed to be...Well, Super. A not so-super choice, Bungie. PvE has almost nothing going for it when you bridge your power level at around 280, apart from the Raid - But wait, that essentially has nothing going for it either besides the smallest bit of vanity. Why do I say that you ask? The weapons have near-nothing special about them besides appearance, which brings me to the biggest problem this game faces: Fixed Rolls / Stats. Many assumed this would be a good thing, many assumed a bad thing. I've stuck with the bad, and for good reason(s). Fixed rolls have made this game extremely stale. Customization and Play-style have both been hindered and extremely limited by this simple thing. If you want specific traits (Resilience, Mobility, Recovery) you have to give up customization almost completely to get the stats you want. Not only that, but having fixed rolls / stats also has removed 95% of replayability. By removing rolls on weapons / armor, you've essentially removed almost any need to continue playing after you reach 305. Destiny 1 had it right; 3 Years, and there was still things to go for. Perk rolls made a gun or armor have dozens and dozens of possibilities; Dozens! You could essentially customize your ENTIRE playstyle, both gameplay and vanity wise. Like that armor? Get it to drop with the right stats you want and you could wear it doing whatever you pleased. Like that gun, but it has bad stats? No problem, get the right perks on it and you could fix / balance the stats out and make the gun usable and fit your play style needs. These things don't exist in Destiny 2. Bungie, you've essentially limited everything we're able to do, mainly for the sake of player-vs-player. Individuality in PvP is nearly gone, and you're forcing teamwork. Customization has been limited to the point where we have to sacrifice nice looking armor or weapons in order to obtain optimal gear for activities, due to perks and stats being fixed, Everything feels exponentially weaker, especially in PvP, everything is too slow paced, and you can essentially walk away from 1v1's if you're losing. I want to feel like I'm shooting more than a marshmallow gun at my enemies. PvE has non-existent replay value after you've completed the campaign / adventures, apart from Public Events, which is only used for farming exotics at this point, what little exotics there are. I mean, at this point, I have essentially almost every single legendary in the game vaulted right now, it's ridiculous. Also, Exotics feels extremely...Not-Exotic in this game. Even after Three of Coins became a thing in Destiny 1, atleast exotics felt superior over legendary gear. Not so much in this game. Things need to seriously change in this game, Bungie. I want to love this game, I really do, but...I just can't, not right now. According to logs, players are leaving this game faster than I've ever seen. Things needs to feel stronger, we need to feel less held-back, we need incentive to keep playing; Stuff to work for, stuff to grind for, stuff to desire. I'll end with saying this: Pop Destiny 1 back in your Xbox / Playstation, give it a try again for a day. I promise you won't regret it, I'm even deleting a character and starting anew. Final Note: ALL the Playstation Exclusives are now available on Xbox on Destiny 1. Thanks for reading my thoughts. Remember, this is all opinion / insight. You'll know where to find me; On the game I love.

  • I feel the same. I'll just play a different game instead of Destiny 1 or 2 soon. I can't stand this game's PvP and how slow and campy it is. I hate the fact that I have to rely on teammates that refuse to try and work as a team. I'm not getting a team together every time I play Crucible.

    • Bungie just needs to make PvE separate from PvP. PvP drives all decisions.

    • I would love for you and I to discuss more about this, I’m on PlayStation but there really isn’t a difference, me, my clan and my 150 hardcore D1 veteran friends all stand by you and I would love to chat with you more on this topic. Hell at this point I would rather talk to you about how bad the game is then to actually play the game and coming from a hardcore gamer... that’s pretty Sad. Anywho, message me if you wanna chat more.

    • Yes not very happy with D2 a I’ll destiny had it right make it hard so it make it long # this bringbackthegrind I actually missed year one before destiny got given fu cking training wheels it’s especially bad in D2 I hate the stupid raid it’s a pale Comparison to the Vault of glass and kings fall Croats end was short but a masterpiece essentially so many solo player clears whoot ! Yeah I hate he whole grind pub events for exotics to get you higher and the exotics in D2 are laughable the only one I feel that feel exotic is the cold heart the preorder everyone got handed to them. Yeh pvp is shite nothing but energy autos and mida archetypes ruling the sandbox right now yes I’m guilty of running my martyrs maker or whatever but hey go with the flow hey? Hate the strikes feel pointless for I have every piece of armor and weapon from the vanguard bald guy so I don’t run them hate the lacklustre nightfall rush that’s times to ten minutes that’s making it difficult that’s upping the fake challenge In front of you I’m for one sick of nightfall I’d love a no timer one one day just to squeeze through tough as nuts enemies and get punished buy the boss for errors or misdeeds. What the hell happened

    • Weird thing about D1 is that my kids play it (they hate d2 and yes they are real kids) and it's still full of guardians on patrols and tower etc. On the other hand, I've seen a lot of empty planets in D2...

    • I've only been playing D2 once a week for the reset lately. It's pretty bad that I've spent more time in D1 then D2 recently. I miss heroic strikes, archon forge, bounties, etc. I may be at 400 LL but I still chase gear.

    • For me, Destiny 2 is a failure of PvP and the raid. These were my top 2 activities in D1. I can get some mileage out of patrol and strikes. I can even enjoy replaying story missions once a week. But that’s only enough for Tuesday reset.

Been looking over some old posts from reddit it appears destiny 1 at the start had similar issues in fact more. I’m not saying D2 is amazing or perfect but it’s a damn good platform to start a fresh on D1 evolved over time to the game it is now. The biggest mistake they have made in D2 is not separating the pvp and pve, you can complain there’s not a lot of end game In D2 but as for the pve side there’s loads more patrols are better yes the strikes are kinda pointless but fun (no strike specific loot in D1 at start) nf timer agreed is absolute ass the lack of replaying the missions doesn’t bother me but how many could you play on D1 early days. Give the game time. Less salt is needed on here try doing a few constructive criticism posts. Take forza 7 for example the forza community wasn’t happy with the vip rewards (me included) some one made a post they changed the rewards so everyone is happy. I also think bungie are more focussed on pc release at the minute.

        • This is the most well-formed post that perfectly describes the problems of this game that I hope get’s notices by Bungie, because this clearly took time to make.

        • Up voting it hoping someone at bungie will read because it's exactly how I feel about destiny 2 right now. A day or two ago I opened destiny 1 for play crucible and it reminded me how fun that crucible was even with all absurd unbalance and net code problems. I could pop a sniper and use it as secondary, I could play individually looking my evaluation of the enemy skill and not merely their numbers. I could remember the importance and the strategy of the heavy ammo moment and how amazing is to use that powerful heavy for a very short period. And 6x6... 3x3 and rumble options... Jesus how I miss skirmish and rumble! I have wasted hours and hours playing skirmish with my boyfriend while right now I feel bored after an hour of destiny 2 Pvp even with a full team.

I have always been a console gamer but I'm a big fan of Tolkien and Middle Earth. I played Lord of the Rings Online for many years. I did many hours of grinding for rep. Where you actually spent your rep currency on the item you wanted. Instead of click here and get the same piece of gear multiple times!

            • 100% on point. I would add that moving snipers and shotties into the power slot was also a mistake. Snipers and shotties, love em or hate em, were a critical dynamic to the "fun factor" of Destiny. I played mayhem crucible in D1 the other night, and had more fun those few hours, than i ever had i D2 in its entirety. The funny thing is... I swore off D2 after the beta because i hated it, but soon thereafter, i bought into all the hype and people saying "its only the beta, it will be better when the full game is released". They were wrong. Great post. GG and see you in D1!

I don't want to play PVP all the time just because there is no end game content. Adding the faction rally was a good thing but it's limited time and limited packages. I hate that so much. I don't know if Iron Banner is limited but I wish factions weren't like Shaxx and Zavala. Also mad that Ikora is limited too. I wish all the missions were playable through her for the endgame plus DLC for replayability and just set milestones for extra rewards. I don't like starting extra characters just to play the story again. Not having bounties are a little stale too. Why don't they just make crucible bounties again with the chance to win engrams and tokens? I don't know but I'm just going to play other games until they finish updating to Destiny 2 with DLC. I hate this raid.

There just is no new content from Destiny 1. How many times can you do three strikes and the same daily tasks? For those who enjoy the game, I hope you continue to enjoy it. I, myself will be shelving this one for a while.
