Thanks for reading my thread.
Let me first start off by saying, that I have sifted through the toxicity of these forums for what will mark 10-Years in the coming months. Things never used to be as bad as they are now, but expectations and entitlement have pushed people to new lows, so take what you read ahead to your own liking, it is merely my insight, analysis, and opinions..
EDIT NOTE #1:
Thank you all for your words, wisdom, input, and thoughts. I appreciate the time and effort you've put into both taking the time to read my thread, and reply, good and bad. Didn't know this thread would take off the way it did.
EDIT NOTE #2:
Perhaps some of you misunderstand, I'm not permanently quitting, I am shelving the game until things are fixed, preferably in the near future, or unless my friends message me to help them in activities. To those giving me the obligatory "Git Gud in D2", I have a 2.0~ K/D Ratio in both games, and I only Solo Queue unless my friends need help, thank you.
This topic will culminate my final thoughts of Destiny 2, why I'm going back to Destiny 1, and why it is not only the biggest letdown I've ever had to my gaming history, but to why it is also a lifeless shadow/shell of Destiny 1. The game will now sit in my game room, as of tonight, as a collectors item, and nothing more. The only time I will play it now, is if somebody on my friends list personally wants/needs my help.
Let's begin.
I decided to log into Destiny 1 tonight and play 5 games of Crucible.
I cannot even begin to explain how much better Destiny 1 not only feels after playing Destiny 2, but how it handles, and how much stronger, faster, and less held-back you feel. I felt like a god jumping into Control and quite literally slaughtering the enemy team single-handed. I had more fun again than I could put into words.
Then I remembered Destiny 2 was a thing again.
Bungie has literally watered down everything we ever loved about Destiny, in Destiny 2.
Everything feels weaker, everything feels slower, everything feels forced.
The truth of the matter is, while processing the hype, taking in the story-line (something we can all agree was better than Destiny 1's) and going through it all, many began to fathom the realization that there is essentially no end-game, no reason to grind after a certain period of time. I even deleted my Titan to make a second Warlock and ran through the Campaign, again... Then deleted my Hunter and lost motivation entirely after I created him again. I often find myself sitting in orbit thinking of SOMETHING to do to have fun in this game.
Destiny 2 eliminates any sense of individuality that the first game presented, and instead tries to force us to cope with relying on people we don't even know, which in turn causes frustration. Bungie has essentially weakened everything to the point where it FORCES teamwork in order to even get through a casual Crucible match.
Abilities take far too long to recharge (Even with EVERY piece of armor having the "Abilities recharge quicker when using <Subclass>", Supers take far too long to get, and feel significantly weaker now, due to energy weapons doing 1.5x damage to someone in their super (Honestly, who thought this was a good idea, especially since you essentially only get ONE super per game now, I could see it being viable if it was like D1, where you could get 3-4 supers per match). A lone guardian can now take someone out of their super with an energy auto rifle faster than if they didn't have their super active. That's extremely backwards, considering a super not only takes ages to charge, but is supposed to be...Well, Super.
A not so-super choice, Bungie.
PvE has almost nothing going for it when you bridge your power level at around 280, apart from the Raid - But wait, that essentially has nothing going for it either besides the smallest bit of vanity. Why do I say that you ask? The weapons have near-nothing special about them besides appearance, which brings me to the biggest problem this game faces:
Fixed Rolls / Stats.
Many assumed this would be a good thing, many assumed a bad thing. I've stuck with the bad, and for good reason(s). Fixed rolls have made this game extremely stale. Customization and Play-style have both been hindered and extremely limited by this simple thing. If you want specific traits (Resilience, Mobility, Recovery) you have to give up customization almost completely to get the stats you want. Not only that, but having fixed rolls / stats also has removed 95% of replayability. By removing rolls on weapons / armor, you've essentially removed almost any need to continue playing after you reach 305.
Destiny 1 had it right; 3 Years, and there was still things to go for. Perk rolls made a gun or armor have dozens and dozens of possibilities; Dozens! You could essentially customize your ENTIRE playstyle, both gameplay and vanity wise. Like that armor? Get it to drop with the right stats you want and you could wear it doing whatever you pleased. Like that gun, but it has bad stats? No problem, get the right perks on it and you could fix / balance the stats out and make the gun usable and fit your play style needs. These things don't exist in Destiny 2.
Bungie, you've essentially limited everything we're able to do, mainly for the sake of player-vs-player. Individuality in PvP is nearly gone, and you're forcing teamwork. Customization has been limited to the point where we have to sacrifice nice looking armor or weapons in order to obtain optimal gear for activities, due to perks and stats being fixed, Everything feels exponentially weaker, especially in PvP, everything is too slow paced, and you can essentially walk away from 1v1's if you're losing. I want to feel like I'm shooting more than a marshmallow gun at my enemies. PvE has non-existent replay value after you've completed the campaign / adventures, apart from Public Events, which is only used for farming exotics at this point, what little exotics there are. I mean, at this point, I have essentially almost every single legendary in the game vaulted right now, it's ridiculous.
Also, Exotics feels extremely...Not-Exotic in this game. Even after Three of Coins became a thing in Destiny 1, atleast exotics felt superior over legendary gear. Not so much in this game.
Things need to seriously change in this game, Bungie.
I want to love this game, I really do, but...I just can't, not right now.
According to logs, players are leaving this game faster than I've ever seen.
Things needs to feel stronger, we need to feel less held-back, we need incentive to keep playing; Stuff to work for, stuff to grind for, stuff to desire.
I'll end with saying this:
Pop Destiny 1 back in your Xbox / Playstation, give it a try again for a day.
I promise you won't regret it, I'm even deleting a character and starting anew.

Final Note: ALL the Playstation Exclusives are now available on Xbox on Destiny 1.
Thanks for reading my thoughts.
Remember, this is all opinion / insight.
You'll know where to find me; On the game I love.

Wait. They had a saladin display figure?!?! Did they ever make a shaxx one? I NEED IT!!!
-
I love destiny 2, my only gripe is not that there's not enough to do, but that there's not enough reason to do them after hitting max light, which is waaaay too easy. I guess all I want is more grind that I can really get into, other than that this games excellent. I absolutely love the new raid and the gameplay is fun and addicting. Cant wait for more.

Some things that need to get better: Amount of armor and gear-Everything is way too easy to get Make certain weapons very random with a low chance of dropping, so you feel good when you get a rare one. D2 is out for a month and everyone has the exact same armor and exact same weapons. Also would be nice to have some exotic quests that happen randomly like D1 instead of quests that are just handed to you like the class specific exotic quests. Very boring now! Vault is horrible-How can Bungie go backwards with the vault? In D1 the vault at least had tabs for weapons, armor and misc, but no its all just thrown together. Bad just bad! We need tabs for everything with more space or at least bring back kiosks, which is also another missing good idea from D1. Lost Sectors are meaningless- Very big missed opportunity here. Lost Sectors should have been actually very well hidden and only open at random times with random encounters, so when you actually find one you are excited. Inside should be a mini quest and puzzle that awards LS specific super rare gear. Think Elder Scrolls Online Solo Dungeons and have a difficulty setting or matchmaking for public lost sectors with different gear and enemies. Daily bounty and milestones are very repetitive- So far every week the PvE ( PvP is just as boring) milestone is go to a planet and do public events! How boring is that?? The events themselves are repetitive and predictable, but adding weekly rituals to them is just dumb. There should be a bounty system like D1 but more advanced and Milestones should be for completing actual Milestones of you game progress not repeating PE's over and over. The world of D2 should be a living breathing environment with constant change and unpredictability with things keeping us on our toes. Instead I feel like Mario jumping over Goomba over and over again! We have NPC's as points of contact on each planet only to turn in stupid tokens for low level gear and that's it? Where is the depth? Why not have specific weekly and daily bounties available from all planet and Traveler NPC's that we can pick and choose from and Make Milestones like Commendations in Halo 4? I always liked that system and feel that a similar system with milestones would work well in Destiny with shaders and gear attached to Milestones as unlocks. Hell even the Division added commendations to the game with update 1.7. In D1 we had the record books, so how about a D2 Milestone book or just add player milestones to another tab in the Director. We could have hundreds of Milestones to complete: Examples Combat Milestones Exploration Milestones Strike Milestones and so on... This would be a nice added feature. New shader system- The addition of adding shaders to everything is great, but making them a single use instead of unlocking is terrible. We should have a kiosk so we can see what we have unlocked and be able to apply them to your character whenever. Way to many re-skins- Same enemies as D1, to many carryover Exotics, same patrol missions, same Factions and all the faction gear is re skinned current planet rewards. Have some creativity! I agree that D2 is not what I expected either and I also will be shelving the game.

You simply consumed most of the available content way too quickly. You are comparing a game that has had 4 dlc's and countless updates with a "vanilla" experience. Sure they should know what they are doing, but in my opinion they do. They rebooted Destiny in a way it will cater to a way wider audience in the long run. Vanilla D1 had pretty much nothing... Right now D2 has maybe 60-100 hours of solid content, treat it as such. Hardcore players, such as yourself, are a minority. As for pvp. Having OP gear in a competitive game is never good. Sure for a hardcore player spending hours every day grinding it would be rewarding to have this gun that just one-shots everybody (just making a point). But this would alienate all the casuals. Black Desert is a prime example of this. End game pvp is simply unplayable for any casual player because you stand zero chance against a higher geard player (who spent 10x more time on the game). So in the end as a company would you rather cater to 85% of your playerbase or to the other 15%.. P.S.; I'm quite sure that d2 will be all you wish it to be in about 3 years time ;-)
-
Well said I have to agree with everything... D2 just feels like destiny 1 after a stroke and 6 months of chemo.. It's just so FOOKING slow and team shooting is the biggest fook up of them all. Destiny had power and pace you could actually attack more than one player and live to tell the tale.. Destiny blows goats big time... Thousands of hours on destiny and am already bored of d2 after couple of weeks.. . Fook you bungo

Blah! Blah! I saved you all the time of reading a long winded post. Just go!

If you ever complained about something being op in d1 you cannot complain about how everything is weaker in d2.

Bumps

Well Bye.....

The PC version will solve everything...

We have bitched D1 for a year and two and paid bungie money equals to two 3As for it to evole from a shit to what almost meet their original promise. Look at what we got NOW! they just throw the lessons of full 3 years away and try to repeate process anew in order to make even more money of us. I'm all agree with the op but I'm feared that op and everybody may underestimated this evil. We should never got something like D2! instead we should get new contents all under a single destiny title that's how a mmo game should be doing, you know this by just look at game like WOW and EVE!

How many Bungie employees does it take to... https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/235041967/0/0

YOU PUT DOWN HOW I FEEL EXACTLY!!! i get the feeling no one is going to be buying expansions as no one i know is truly happy with this game. Iron banner being the dagger. I was joking with my friend about how i should actually just stop playing D2 and go back to D1. If i wanted to play a different game type i'd buy a different game. I should have known better than to pre-order this junk when i heard PVP was 4vs4 and they wanted to slow everything down...
-
I don't want to comment on this, but I'm so tempted because of how many counter arguments I have. I will say this though: Why the hell are you making a new character for destiny 1? I get you want to go through the experience again, but...how have you not gotten sick of it?
-
They're just gonna resell everything D1 had in the new DLC's and call it new.
-
As a Day 1 destiny player who’s been there since the beginning and seen the ups and downs of destiny, nothing could make me agree more with you.
-
This is possibly the best review I have read on this game. I could not agree with you more if I wanted to! Fixed rolls have left me with nothing to play or grind for, and I personally love grinding in games. Here’s looking at you Borderlands 2 and Destiny. ❤️ There was so much in Destiny 1 that I ran after and tried so hard to collect. Even running after shaders just to collect them all brought me back to Destiny 1. Running after collecting emblems as well brought me back time and time again. The Nightfall was a blast in D1, now I can’t stand the Nightfall with a timer. I think the Nightfall may possibly be my least favorite thing in D2, and that’s saying something. There are no random ships or sparrows to collect out in the game world and activities anymore. All sparrows and ships just come from bright engrams... I admit there are some little things I think D2 got right. Being able to grab onto ledges is a God send sometimes, being able to make public events heroic is fun for a time, and Cayde-6 is hilarious. I also felt as though I had actually accomplished something when I got an exotic back when D1 first came out. There is no sense of that anymore. Guns were fun in D1 and armor was useful in D1. I believe the biggest thing that brought me back to D1 time and time again though, was the feeling of power. I felt powerful, I felt strong and no game had ever given me that feeling. It just made the game so much fun. I will continue to play D2 for a little longer, that I will admit. But I did play a game of crucible in D1 recently and I cannot express how much fun it was! Actual guns with fun and useful perks, getting your super more than one time and feeling absolutely invincible with it was so awesome. This is just my opinion and there are some good things that changed in D2, but it is a shadow of a game compared to D1. So good luck out there guardians with whatever game you play. Just have fun!

How i would have handled the sequel to destiny. keep from destiny 1 - daily, weekly heroic stories/ crucible/ strike activities - selective strike/ story/ crucible playlist - supers should have been left the way they are - patrols on on the existing planets( cosmodrone, moon, venus, mars and dreadnaugth) since they are still there in the skyboxes. -raid specific armor/ weapon perks - consumables like heavy ammo or chroma - customs games -strike specific loot -strike modifiers what i would have added to destiny 2 - lost sectors would have been ran by vendor from the farm to keep it a viable social space after the campaign. The lost sectors would have been the same as they are currently in the game(easy to solo) upon initial discovery, however, after discovering and completing that particular sector you would be able to go back with a fire team and complete it at a scaled difficulty and unique sector armor weapon rewards. Each month a designated patrol location would be the focused on lost sector area to collect that location specific loot(ex: completing lost sectors in the EDZ would give tokens for edz specific weapons and loot from the vendor at the farm and also a chance to earn a unique sector specific armor piece or weapon for that particualr sector boss.) - daily, weekly and monthly milestones at scaled difficulty and rewards (ex: monthly milestones would be much harder and take longer to complete but would grant much better gear than the weekly or daily. Daily would give mods, weekly armor and monthly weapons) - i would have kept the fixed perk rolls on weapons and gear but i would change the mod system. each weapon or armor piece would be able to equip 3 mods with different perks, this would give duplicate drops the diversity and customization to weapons and armor while also keeping the base perks. - crucible would have kept all the existing game modes plus the new added modes. would have done it 5v5. and kept the fan favorite maps from destiny 1. -map voting - i like what they did with the public events so wouldnt really change anyhting there - add more patrol selections than just the 3 we have now, not sure why they didnt keep the ones from destiny 1 - maybe add a weapon modifier to strikes to encourage weapon diversity (ex: snipers do more damage this strike or shotguns do more damage on this strike, ect.) most of the heavies i see are rockets, swords and maybe a grenade launcher. - faction rally would be a weekly event but also have 2-3 new factions to compete. - would have kept the ability to buy specific armor/ weapon from vendor/ factions

Fuuking excellent post guardian! As of next week, my destiny 2 schedule will be on Tuesday; I'll do all 3 characters milestones etc. then done for week. Next month, if banner is still 4v4, no enabling, shiat again? Then it will be just Tuesday for D2 for me til DLC( or changes" fat chance"). If I want to play banner, I'll just use D1 6v6! Same lag, same disabled, but fun, more loot, different perks, more power! So to recap after this week: Tuesday is D2, rest of week D1 until DLC or changes. Unless D2 is completely reworked across the board, I'll play out my start and 2 DLC's I preordered, and prolly never log onto it again. Further more not 1 penny is EVER going to be spent on ANYTHING bungie nor activision again in my lifetime, I'm done with the lies, manipulation, and money grabs. And we all know what will happen if all follow this path, bungievision will just shut off D1 and make what's left in D2(❄️) play it cause that's all there will be. ✌️
-
I only pray this is read and acted on. Couldn't have put it better myself! D2 never had to be made... Why oh why couldnt we just have more DLC's released rather than 1/3 of D1 in a new game.

Edited by WiggletonBandit: 10/11/2017 6:18:32 PMI'm right there with you. Disappointed and saddened are the right words. I'm not angry, but I am disheartened that they did this to a game I had so much fun with for three years. I'm likely going back to D1 for PvP, and am going back to other games to scratch my loot itch because this game just doesn't have it. In order of importance these are the things I would need to see changed to come back and purchase any future DLC. 1. RNG Loot - This needs to happen. There is no reason to chase loot in this game and nothing that gives me any sense of attachment to it. I have A Uriel's Gift, not MY Uriel's Gift, and as such I will never care about the loot in this game like the loot I had in D1. 2. Enhanced Loot - The perks and stat-change nodes on all weapons need to be turned up to push the upper and lower bounds of what's possible for each weapon. There's currently nothing to get excited about because there is so little differentiation between the best and worst guns of the same archetype. Everything is right down the middle, and very balanced, but very very boring. 3. Armor Perks - We need a reason besides cosmetic appearance to hunt for new armor. I'm not going to care about a bunch of reskins forever. 4. Skills - Needs a complete overhaul. Either add many more presets or open it up to custom individual node selection as in D1. 5. PvP Time to Kill - Team shooting is not fun, powerful, or rewarding. Now that special weapons have been put in their proper place, give kinetic and energy weapons a chance to shine. I was so happy when I learned that PvP would no longer be a constant stream of Shotguns and Snipers, but so disappointed when I felt the blanket nerf to all primary weapon types. 6. End Game (Raid/Trials/Nightfall/Heroic Strikes) - Give me a reason to want to do these things. Unique perks to give raid weapons and armor worth hunting for. Adept weapons for flawless Trials victories. Unique strike rewards. Strike scoring and bounties. Get rid of the nightfall timer in favor of achieving a high score and add a multiplier for rapid succession kills if you want to push the pace. These suggestions are just reinstating stuff you removed from D1 for the most part. 7. NO MORE TOKENS!!! - I'm fine with the whole rank up thing for Vanguard, Crucible, and Factions. Those make sense since there are many ways to earn rep for those. But the Raid, Trials, and IB should be dropping loot immediately upon completion and that includes removing your stupid raid loot keys. Going to cash a paycheck after completing end game activities doesn't feel as rewarding as an immediate payoff to celebrate with your team. Also, certain loot should be purchasable from the respective vendors. Adding complete RNG to the loot packages is not a replacement for RNG loot rolls.
-
Totally agree. Even though D2 story was better I thought the campaign was way too short. Vanilla in D1 took me about a month to complete the campaign when it released, progression was slow but it was a lot of fun. We got what, 2-3 missions per planet with D2 and I completed the entire campaign in ~ 8 hours. Beyond that the game is boring, the loot is bland, the majority of the content does not aid in progression, I pretty much lost interest and shelved it after week 2. Heck, I won't even play PvP since it's primarily a forced team shoot activity and since I play crucible solo, no thanks.

Edited by noahssey: 10/11/2017 4:30:48 PMD2 looks wide and beautiful like an ocean at the first glance... until you realize, that all of this beauty is not even an inch deep... basically just a big aśś puddle in process of drying out already...
